This is such a disappointment especially airing just after the outstanding other Rice series Interview with a Vampire. This is poorly acted, poorly written and so NOT sexy as most of Anne Rice novels are.

So far it's far and away a better show than Interview. Firstly, because it fulfills where Interview did not: the lingering and creepy atmosphere. Secondly, because the main characters aren't insufferably smug and off-putting. Excited to see more, whereas I only made it 2/3rd of the way through the first Interview season before wondering why I was even watching anymore. Expand

I'm always willing to suspend my disbelief for this kind of story, as long as it has its own logic. This just makes no sense and the acting tends to show that the actors don't believe it either. Worse, they just renewed it and doubled the error.

Fundamentally, the show is not frightening. It’s not even unsettling, which is a baseline requirement. Only Hamlin embraces the baroque nature of the tale; everyone else trudges through as if appearing in the kind of forgettable films that Channel 5 shows at 2pm on a Tuesday.

While there are some promising moments, Mayfair Witches fails to offer much to really hook in viewers who aren’t already excited about a shared Anne Rice universe on AMC.

An AMC series that is occasionally fun but overall way too slow and careful, despite dripping with Gothic horror tropes.
