This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Felt very repetitive of Season 1, similar people, similar plot line, drawn out conversations, and could have been finished in 8 or 9 episodes. The only 'new' aspect of the season was in the first few episodes. Expand

About 8 or so episodes in and this show has suffered from what many of the Marvel Netflix shows have - IT'S. TOO. DAMN. LONG. If you like listening to people have conversations for 90% of the episodes, this season is for you. Look, I like character development. I turn on an episode and the majority of it is talk, talk, talk, talk, talk - OH LOOK! A FIGHT! - talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. I can feel things starting to pick up, but it's annoying that these shows make us wait about 8-10 episodes before they do. No fault to the actors, I think they do a great job. It's just the pace needs a lot of work. Expand

Honestly I think Jhon Bernthal did a good job, not a great one with the role that they told them to do in this season, if is someone fault I can bet that is in the writers. In time where Disney buy everything from Netflix somehow is disappointed see that Thanos didn't snap the show. Expand

The Punisher season two had potential but was mediocre overall. The show lacked focus, and above all else that killed it. The show ran two plotlines for two separate villains with no connection. The show ran two plotlines for two separate villains with no connection. It was either Frank was dealing with one or the other, never both. It felt like watching two separate tv shows spliced together. It really was a shame too, because both had immense potential, and when given the time to shine they really were interesting. Unfortunately it never lasted, the show just kept flopping between plotlines, never giving them the time to develop fully.

Another issue was how they tried to make the villains sympathetic. The two main villains (Especially Jigsaw) would keep talking as if they were decent people and regretted what they did, but in the end it was all talk. Their actions ran in stark contrast to what they were saying constantly. (Again, especially Jigsaw) On top of that the conclusion to Jigsaw's "arc", if you could even call it that, was ridiculously anticlimactic.

Thats not to say the show didn't have it's moments though. Yet again Frank Castle brought some one liners and moments that were as great as ever when they weren't recycled from earlier seasons. (Punisher Season One and Daredevil Season Two) Also a couple of the action shots were cool, my favourite being the staircase shootout. Still, it's not enough to fix the poor plot, writing and underdeveloped characters.

This Season the Punisher is less of a Fighting Machine and more Human, which makes him more likeable. Having said that, the writing and storyline and the choices the Punisher makes at times, make no sense at all. As a Result, some of the Scenes and choices the Punisher makes, are just not believable, other times the story drags on a bit, but the acting saves it, thank god for amazingThis Season the Punisher is less of a Fighting Machine and more Human, which makes him more likeable. I still give it a thumps up, but if you are expecting as much suspension, fight scenes and action as in Season 1, then don't watch it, as you will be disappointed.

I was very excited for Season 2, and Bernthal still got what it takes to play an amazing Punisher, but the story is repetitive, recycled and boring with added elements of ridiculously unlikely events happening such as Christian religious fanatics with automatic guns assaulting a small town in central America or Frank Castle being the Punisher in broad, open daylight, and startingI was very excited for Season 2, and Bernthal still got what it takes to play an amazing Punisher, but the story is repetitive, recycled and boring with added elements of ridiculously unlikely events happening such as Christian religious fanatics with automatic guns assaulting a small town in central America or Frank Castle being the Punisher in broad, open daylight, and starting shootouts, ignoring that season 1 was all about him trying to remain hidden from public eye. Everyone knows Frank Castle is alive (again) but nobody seems to bat an eyelash. Just not very realistic this time around.

    Hard pass for me.

The punisher really didn't need a second season but they made one anyways. After a few episodes the story really got lacking. It felt like they didn't know what to do half the time and decided to make a few other storylines. Several of the episodes are just filler and rarely do anything to the actual main story. Continues to be the same as before with even the same conflict of Punisher vs. Jigsaw. Been there done that. There is also another villain that is just plain boring.

What makes this season of “The Punisher” work so well is that it feels less like a Season 2 and more like a Season 5, a standalone story in the established adventures of Frank Castle.

In short, it’s a mixed bag. The show’s signature fight scenes are still fantastic, as is the Punisher himself, Jon Bernthal. But something seemed to go wrong in the writers’ room this go-round, and even with a new dynamic that changes Frank’s life, there are still some stories in play that might have been better wrapped up in season one.

Bernthal plays Castle as a man who feels doomed to repeat the same brutal cycle over and over again, convinced that there’s only one thing he’s good for, and that, sadly, is also true of the second season of this series: repetitive, bleak, and unwilling to admit that it might be capable of doing anything new.
