What a waste of a second season. The writing really let the series and the actors down.
Horribly written dialogue. Incredibly weak character arcs. Clunky, and often just plain silly, plot devices.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't understand what they were going for. Even Agents of SHIELD had a better use of the "missing parent coming back as the bad guy" trope... and it did it TWICE! Hey, I'm a fan, and I can sit through 13 episodes of this, but I found myself distracted by my phone and having to backtrack the episode. It simply wasn't engaging, finishing it up felt like a chore.

It's seems the makers of the series forgot this is a superhero show, Jessica Jones has no idea of what it wants to be as a show. Sure, tackle all the issues you want, but never forget what people are here for. Character studies and ABC-like drama can be found in other shows, and no one looking for that kind of entertainment will look for it in a Marvel production. Your protagonist is a raging alcoholic with super strength and the ability to kind of fly, why waste that?
Good job forgetting Jessica had limited flying powers AGAIN, by the way, at least in Smallville people had Clark's inexperience to blame for his lack of using all of his powers.

Ritter is still a good actress, unfortunately her character is still unlikeable, even if it's entertaining to watch JJ mess up, she still ends up boring me with her inconsistency in her choices regarding the characters of the story. One moment she hates her mother, the next she goes against every moral fiber in her body to aid her, even after the mother crosses multiple lines. Adding that to the already hard to love characterization of Jones as crass, foul and hostile and it one feel that after her show's first season and all of Defenders, she should be in another place, emotionally speaking.

I am absolutely convinced that if Iron Fist had these flaws people would've been THAT much more critical of it. However, since this is Jessica Jones, a show about a powered woman -and opening on Women's Day, no less- she probably gets a pass from critics, who I can see are showering the season with praise.

The most thrilling part of the story for me was watching Trish Walker's evolution into her powered alter ego from the comics: Hellcat. Still, the series only manages to give us the briefest glimpse of a promise of her future role in the last few moments of the show. The most touching part of the season for me was definitely Carrie-Anne Moss' character, who by the way delivers the best performance of the entire cast, as her character goes in a roller coast of emotion, facing her own mortality, inevitability, goes through a deep breakdown involving satisfactory revenge and emerges on top, though still with an uncertain future.

Overall, a if you had to define this Season with one word, it would be BORING. Jessica Jones Season 2 ranks as my least favorite season of all of Netflix's Marvel shows.

Take your favorite, or more likely for the educated and logical, your least favorite bits of leftist/feminist propaganda (the easily debunked stuff your five year old can prove are blatant lies) and then do your best to forcefully wedge a superhero story around it. That is exactly what happened in all of season 2.

The message was clear from the first episode and then hammered home ad nauseam: All white males are bad. White women are better than everyone (even when they are mass murderers). White women should only have sex with non-White males. Every other female is a raging homosexual.

Now that may sound harsh but it is easily verified by forcing yourself to watch this train wreck of leftist insanity in the guise of a superhero show all the way through. You could drunk easily off of making it a drinking game to take a shot every-time leftist/feminist propaganda pops on screen (Warning you will end up drinking more than Jessica).

The actors gave solid performances but they are all forced to read stilted dialogue and spout lines that sound like the fanfic of your typical sexist, racist, bigoted feminist/leftist. You know the one that tells you that racism and sexism against White males doesn't "count" as racism or sexism right before they go set fire to a building or hit you in the face with a bike lock because they don't think anyone who disagrees with them should have rights.

The second saddest thing is it could have been a great season but the (all female look it up) directors and (leftist/feminist) writers decided your time should be wasted on their propaganda and that you don't deserve to be entertained by good writing.

The saddest thing is the overt and not so covert sexism, racism, and bigotry portrayed constantly through out the season.

It's just that after such a monumental season 1 and a villain that is probably the MCU's finest, the plot and development in season 2 is not as strong. But on the bright side, the series maintains it's main strength: a fantastic main character, and a tough, emotional, and deep storyline. Now, on the bad side, there are a lot of decisions this season that feel so forced and out of nowhere, and really make me feel annoyed, specially some plot points and focus that feel pointless. So all in all, while flawed, Jessica Jones proves in it's second outing that it has a great main character and can be used very good in the right hands, and ends up with a solid season 2. Expand

The action scenes are still fun to watch and amazingly shot, although not as many as in the precedent season. Also the characters inner conflicts are very well depicted and keeps the audience entertained. Great script writing and amazing delivery from the actors, just as before and just as expected. Couple of minor typical movie mistakes made it in the final cuts, which can only be observed by the very eagle eyed viewers, and they are so insignificant that they can be easily overlooked. The plot is somewhat not as entertaining as in the 1st season, because the threat is not as high as it was in the previous one. The thrill and the rush isn't there because of this fact. But we got a lot more character centered point of view about their morals and conflicts. Overall it's good TV series and it's worth to watch if you are a marvel fan, and/or live the dark/purple styled super strong and ugly honesty of Jessica Jones. Expand

Let me just start by saying that I created an account on MetaCritic to stand behind this second season.
Jessica Jones season 2 is a damn good show.
You, who are undecided to watch it - because you heard some sh*t or because you're afraid you won't enjoy it as much as season 1 - I've been in your shoes. And I watched it. And I loved it. It's rollercoaster of emotions, mostly going down.

It's rollercoaster of emotions, mostly going down. It takes a bit for the plot to take consistance, but hell when it goes off, it goes off hard. My feelings were hurts in so many way and I loved it.
It's a Noir série, it's Jessica being Jessica. It's Hogarth being the most BADASS character ever (with clair temple, but hey, you know I'm looking at you greedy producer).

Back to the critic, of course the season is not perfect. But there's some fantastic line of dialogues, great realisation, etc. People say they want to see fights... well go watch luke cage. Jessica ain't bulletproof, she don't start fight like it's nothing. Hell.

This review is extra messy because it's 4am and I just wanted to say **** like jessica would do.
TL;DR: it's a good season, it takes time and that's why it's so good.

Ps: greedy disney producer, when you build a MCU, at least make it consistent. Is New york that big ? And where is the SHIELD goddamn it.

    Anyway, Love y'all. Enjoy !

One thing it is painfully missing is an, all pun intended, good villain. This is where the first season shined. Kilgrave was a villain who's powers we haven't seen before, his backstory was explained, and he was just kick ass all around. There is just no one to take Kilgraves place this season. Instead the villain seems to be Jessica's inner demon's and family strife. Which sorry to say doesn't keep someone looking for super powered battles satisfied. Another thing i didn't like is what the writers did with characters like Hogarth, Malcolm, and Trish. They just made each one of them desperate for something and they chase after it the whole season. Hogarth with her life/health, Malcolm with Jessica's approval and Trish's love, and Trish being super desperate for powers. It just got old really fast for me. I could go into more detail but instead i'll just leave it at this. Season two seems more like a soap opera than a super hero show and it is a waste of precious hours. Netflix and Marvel need to come back with something good fast because from my perspective I haven't seen anything worth watching since 'Luke Cage' Iron Fist was a flop, The Defenders was a flop, The Punisher was a flop, and you can add this to the list. Pray for Dare Devil season three. Expand

What could have been an in-depth discussion on rage after trauma and coping mechanisms turns trite, dull and slow. Jessica becomes dumb, Trish becomes histerical as the new normal, their interactions with everyone else basically boil down to "sorry, I'm ignoring you because I'm busy" - every 5 minutes or so.

Goes to show what Marvel does to good ideas once they become prominent.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How could they possibly mess this up this bad. I gave the first season 10 out of 10; but this second season gets 0 from me. They did not even try. I have to say the side-story about ALS was quite good, but that is the only thing. I liked that in the first season, JJ's superpowers are kind of just implied, there are very little of actual special effects. But it is made clear that she has those powers, and that she has some ability to fly and so on. In the second season, they completely forgot she could do that.

The main antagonist is a completely boring character and the whole story arc with that could have ended after 3 to 4 episodes. It would have been cool to see JJ meeting her mom, fighting a bit, but then getting to terms with her and sending her to south america or something. And then they should have introduced a real villain, something unexpected. Killgrave from the first season was perfect, terrifying. Of course they could not just copy/paste such a character or bring him back to life. But they could have found someone equally scarry and I would say an intelligent villain would be much more so than one that is simply very strong.

Probably the worst thing about the show was Trish Walker, she just like her mom in the show are completely crazy annoying people. And it makes absolutely zero sense that JJ's did not immediately kill Trish after she shot her mother for no reason whatsoever other than just wanting to kill someone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seems like this season Jessica Jones suffers from what The Defenders did... A very slow and boring start.
After a Season 1 full of great character development for the main Character at times it feels like she's exactly where she started and that is annoying, while characters like Trish Walker and Malcolm seem like fresh improvements.
There is less edge and intrigue in the first part of the season, something that they had with Killgrave, even before introducing him as a character, Jessica's fear of him, the fact that a powered woman could be that scared of someone gave the show an edge that they couldn't replicate with this season.

The villain was weak. Although the reveal that Jessica's mom was alive adding some much needed tension and story was really good, her characterization seemed shallow and her motives were too blend. She just wanted to live with her daughter, after you've killed countless people, was she always this selfish and maniacal? They didn't show us, or did she become that way simply because of the experiment?

The story dragged what seemed like ages, until the reveal of who the villain was, the story was dragging and dragging to get to that point.

Although i liked to see Trish Walkers slow descend to madness, i thought her character started being more annoying, i couldn't really sympathize with her cause, why she wanted to have powers?

The acting as always was on point, the character development of Jessica again was there, i just hope they stick with it for season 3, Trish Walker's introduction to the metahuman world was great, the scene where she was getting her powers was hard to watch, and i loved it if that made sense, Malcom was the real MVP of the season, kept being himself all the way through, but realizing that, loyalty wasn't getting him anywhere he got fed up.

I think it was an "okay" season, nowhere near the first one, because in my opinion they basically repeated season 1 but without the great villain presence that was Killgrave

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was expecting great things from Jessica Jones second season, and, welll.... I guess that short answer is that I got it. In fact, the first seven episodes are compelling, beautiful Netflix nirvana. I was on board 100%. I don't buy into the whole idea that Jessica Jones is a "superhero show". It just isn't, it never has been. If Jessica Jones was a superhero show, Jessica would be a hero. But it's not that simple. Things in life rarely are. And Jessica Jones tackles what are essentially everyday issues through the lens of something extraordinary - a criteria every classic science fiction novel is based on. It's about jealousy, addiction, resentment, loneliness, abuse, alienation. It's amazing to see the way that characters interact and some of the choices in this season are far more gutsy than anything we've previously seen (or ever will) from the big screen MCU. '

But for all that, the last six episodes are... Messy. But again - so is life. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the "mother-comes-back-as-villain" plotline, but I don't think that's a fair criticism of the show. JJ S2 isn't a tv show about a hero vs. a villain. Like I said, it isn't a superhero show. The idea of heroes and villains and black and white justice is, at the end of the day, rather silly, and the creators behind this know it. Every character here has their flaws, but they also have their moments of goodness. You can see sparks of good in all of these people, but just like everybody in real life, they struggle.

I think this season is far from perfect, but I also think it's the ballsiest thing I've seen from Marvel and I think it invites a lot of thought and discussion of what happens. I sympathize with and understand the people who are disappointed and felt bored with the season, but I think a lot of this stems from expectations. I think there's a lot to appreciate here if you approach it from the view of something more akin to Breaking Bad or Ozark, etc.

P.S. In the scene in Oscar's apartment right after whats-her-name takes the kid, there's this really weird light flash across Oscar's face and I wanna know how that made it past the editors smh.

There were no real villains for Jones to chase down, which was all the more noticeable because the first season had such an excellent villain in Kilgrave, portrayed brilliantly by David Tennant. Also there was no Luke Cage which was a big plus for the first season.
If there is a 3rd season hopefully the 2nd season is just setting it up for something special.

It is not Captain America punching Hitler in the face; no it is much more REAL then that and some people don't like that. But, I think that is what exactly what makes the show so good. Jessica Jones is a real person, and the show does a good job portraying her character. All of the character struggle to grow and develop, loved in this season that we saw Trish begin to develop into her alter-ego Expand

Life is complicated and messy. So is Jessica Jones. This is in many ways the most real , the most compelling superhero series ever made. The superhero thing is almost in the background, but when it comes into play, it is clear that it is as much a curse as a blessing. Loved it.

Not as strong as season 1 as there is no clear villain, however the root of the season is in Jessica reconciling her past, fighting through her tumultuous present and moving onward to the future.

A big problem I had with the first season of Jessica Jones was that Krysten Ritter never felt like a good fit for the character. It wasn't until The Defenders that she began to show some promise. In this second season however, Ritter has officially made the role her own. Perfectly embodying all of the character's tragic nature and multi-layered personality.

Once again this is not your typical superhero show. For one, there isn't actually a villain for her to fight. Just her own personal demons. Season 2 of Jessica Jones further steps into the realm of character study. One where we watch the protagonist struggles with guilt, past traumas, and her own lack of self-worth right up to a tragic conclusion.

The first few episodes lack a sort of narrative focus. There's a plot set in place, but the opening chapters are dedicated to human drama and smaller scale interactions with the big mystery remaining vague for a time. This means things don't feel very urgent in the beginning and are somewhat lacking in focus, but the show still manages to remain gripping thanks to Jones herself. Ritter really stepped up to the plate and she's a joy to watch in all her melancholy non-glory.

The show's two biggest supporting characters get some more fleshed out plotlines. Both Trish and Malcolm offer nice side-stories that compliment Jessica's main arc rather nicely at first. When their plots later intersect we witness them take each other down some destructive paths and when the season ended I found myself really disliking both of Jones' longtime friends. It was interesting to see them end up in darker, more hopeless places than the title character does, but it happened at the cost of killing my enthusiasm of seeing them return in the future. Carrie-Anne Moss has her own surprisingly compelling subplot going on as well that is largely detached from the main events.

As for the finale, it was odd to see it's final scenes take Jessica from one of her lowest points as her conflict is ended in a shocking, brutal way only for the very next moments to show her in the most hopeful state of mind she has been in for quite some time. It's a rather abrupt change in tones.

While still a ways off from perfect, season 2 of Jessica Jones is a huge step up for the character onscreen. It further establishes it's star as the most complex entity in the MCU and casted all of the reserves I had about Ritter right out of the window. There's even better fight choreography (no more just awkwardly flipping people). I await what comes next with much more anticipation than I previously had for the show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed season two but there were just too many incongruent narratives going on throughout the season that held it back from being on equal footing with its predecessor.

The whole loss and gain narrative thread fall flat creativity as the things we loved from the prior season (and the defenders) are now suddenly removed. Hogarth, Trish, Malcolm, all relationships rotating around Jessica have been pushed aside...but still have a place in the story? A forced "B" story going forward is not good storytelling. The Gain and loss of Jessica's mother kind-of go nowhere, other than an emotional Ferris wheel (see what I did there), all the while Jessica finds a "family" through the new "super" which really has some of the worst emotional shifts I might have seen in a show in a very long time.

Jessica's moods are also out-of-whack. I understand she drinks...a lot, but it's never very clear if her powers allow her an increased ability to handle it or not. If yes, then why bother? If no, dear lord she would look a mess! Instead, we get clean-hair/ironed t-shirts/clean clothes and an overall package that seems to say "I have a makeup team that does this to me every day."

Another point: There was NO MENTION OF ANYTHING FROM THE DEFENDERS. Just nothing, no crossovers, no updates...nothing. The events of the defenders are apparently a vacuous hole of narration. It never happened...which might be a good thing as Iron Fist could just disappear and we'd all be fine with it.

As a side point, David Tennant's "appearance" was pointless. It didn't add or change anything with her or her line of reasoning. In the span of one episode, she KNOWS she is no killer....but pained over this fact for literal episodes. Tennant was there because he was the best part of season one, just like the joker was put into Batman: Arkham Knight after dying in the prior game.

If Jessica Jones gets a 3rd season, there needs to be a return to form. This a Comic Book story; it needs to at least be something rooted in the comics. Season two felt like a new IP fresh from a writing think-tank.

I'm noticing repetition in all the Netflix Marvel series being 40 minutes of dialogue and 5 minutes of action towards the end. Over and over. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 2 is what i would call half of a season as it drops off in the mid when all the suspense is ended. From there only drama remains which is not that bad but since it has to carry the weight of useless characters, it becomes lame at time. Krysten ritter gives another screen performance just like carrie ann moss and janet mcteer. While rest of the cast were unable to make an impact while credit goes to writer who could not write their roles off the series. Eka darville's malcom has become a liability for the show which does nothing important in the story and perhaps is maintained as mandatory colored regular, also his performance is hard to digest. Series took off quite weak as rachael taylor showed no development after the incidents took place at season 1 finale and drags jassica into another case. It however gets interesting and strong untill episode 6 which ends beautifully but takes everything with it. After that series lost it's charge as an entertainer and becomes a dramatic performance collision. Two episodes in the series were work of art episode 7 and 11. Janet mcteer as alisa jones should get as many nominations as there are for supporting role as she brought on screen a mother who is also a monster. Brave, daring and human performance. Even with all the flaws and lack of interest in half of it, jessica still is marvel's 2nd best product. Expand

Without David Tennant's Killgrave, the show is kind of out of track insofar as the comics go (except, you know, to marry her to Luke Cage.) What Jessica could and should be doing is investigating super-powered threats, and this season does deliver in that regard. The problem is, Killgrave was such a remarkable and powerful villain (probably in Marvel's top 3) that the quality is hard to maintain and the existing threat doesn't occupy all the supporting cast (who essentially all have their own little adventures). In so far as Netflix series go, this is just under the "must watch" line of the first two Daredevil seasons and Jessica Jones's prior outing. We are not talking a Dexter level of disappointment, but hopefully next season the writers will introduce a creative and powerful villain, not this kind the super-strength soap-opera-rehash we're given (who is well acted, just, you know, poorly conceived and not David Tennant). Chances are, if you liked the first season you will enjoy this but agree that it could have been cut by 4 episodes, easily. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a difficult review to write. Season 1 of Jessica Jones is my favorite of the Marvel shows/seasons and thus far with Punisher Season 1 just behind it. Season 1 was a near perfect show/season in my mind with flawed, believable characters and good use of the hero's journey story arch.

I watched season 2 with my wife and both of us came away with the same impression, it comes across as rushed (as in more time needed to be spent writing and editing, the pace of the story is quite slow), and with potentially too many cooks in the kitchen. Each episode feels as though it was written by a different person with different ideas about the characters and limited communication with one another. Important lessons/moments/pieces of character growth that happen in one episode do not seem to consistently carry over to the next. Additionally a range of emotions/events need to happen in order to maintain the impact of key moments. In order for loss/bad thing happening to have impact and meaning, then you need positive moments as well to counterbalance and make them more impactful, otherwise us as the viewer becomes desensitized to what is happening on screen (a pitfall that Walking Dead fell into).

Speaking of characters, which was a strong point of Season 1, many of those introduced this season were not well developed and were more akin to caricatures. For example, there is an Asian PI who is introduced who's motivations and actions come across as extreme and without cause. He was obviously written to be a "bad guy" with no redeaming qualities. We were also not keen on Jessica's love interest this season as we found him to also be a characture. At first he was the "I hate powered people" caricature and then became a caricature of a man from a romantic novel. (The love scene with the paint really put him in that territory)

Lastly on the negatives side are two keys for us. First, nothing pulls us out of enjoying a show faster than illogical nonsense. For example, just from the last episode, magically Jessica's love interest is able to catch up with her after they had been driving all night. Also, why is the NYPD and the buddy cop we are introduced to, still leading the charge in Westchester? It is well outside their jurisdiction. Small plot points that were not well thought out such as these are scattered throughout the show and pulled us out of the narrative everytime as did the final thing I'll mention, the sexism. It seems that nearly everyone in this show is sexist to some extent. There were numerous "dick" related phrases and sayings that were a bit over the top, especially when said to friends. Hogarth and her interactions with other women came across as very aggressive to us. Even the throwaway extras the main characters run into are written in a way to say needless sexist dialogue. None of this is indicative of how real people act, especially towards their friends, or towards strangers.

There were positives to this season as well. The best episode by far is a flashback to early 20 something Jessica and Trish (I am going to have that song in my head for weeks) and gives you a deeper understanding of their relationship. Kristen Ritter provides a strong performance once again with a great deal of emotional depth as does Rachael Taylor, they are only let down by poor writing. Some of the use of color and perspective in shots is spot on, as are the color (filter on the camera) changes when Jessica thinks back upon Kilgrave or her past.

While the powers are always present, they are rarely the focus and there is a lot more focus on character development and the overall mysteries of the season. While the show isn't all that subtle, it does a good job presenting a diverse cast with strong female leads without it feeling forced. That said, the show is very much 'of the moment' by which I mean to say it is blatantly aware of the #metoo #timesup movement. It can be a bit overbearing about it at times (not because of the message, but because of how forced it sometimes feels). This is relatively trivial though. The show is much more 'stable' over the course of the season as well - something other Netflix Marvel shows have struggled with - there is a lot going on but it doesn't seem overly ridiculous, though perhaps too predictable at times. The latter half of the season is a bit weaker than the first, but still worth seeing through. This is much more of a slow burn than other Marvel shows, and while there are action sequences they often are quick with the violence seeming both tame and extreme at the same time in true film noire style. Indeed, Jessica Jones' second season is even more reliably film noire (lite) than the first. This isn't a show focused on a big, bad villain or saving the world or even saving much of anything, allowing for a more grounded story with more relatable situations and characters. Overall, a great show even if you aren't a fan of superhero stories. Expand

+1 for actually using her powers. Season one she gets her butt kicked by a untrained 125# woman with a 2×4. And a few other times by wimpy random thugs. In this series she actually kicks butt quite often.

The inter personal drama did get a bit thick in this series. I could use far, far less of that. But I think the acting/directing made it tolerable.

The last couple of episodes were my least favorite, maybe because some of the plot lines endings felt a bit rushed as the writers realized they had less than 2 episodes to wrap them up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If I had one word to describe season 2 of Jessica Jones, it would be "contrived". The season itself isn't unwatchable, it's more completely frustrating. Character interactions and relationships don't feel genuine; and in a lot of cases, feel forced. Jessica Jones is a character that has numerous character flaws, which is part of her appeal. However, she becomes extremely irritating when she continuously imposes upon the rest of the world, that she is the queen of deciding what's moral and ethical. She is in fact, a huge hypocrite. Throughout both seasons, it's been a theme that she treats everyone that she meets like a 10 day old **** stain. However, they clean these messy interactions and turn these early antagonists into allies by her having sex with them. It is then, like they never at any point felt any animosity between each other. Her super power is supposed to be super strength, but I'd argue it's the magical social healing powers of her vagina. Based on how they use sex in this show, if she screwed the world, we would have achieved everlasting world peace. Her character is all over the place, she almost feels like she's bipolar or a manic depressive; and these swings in her mood and attitude are too much to handle. it's absolutely nauseating. She whines about IGH, the company that gave her her super powers, because they didn't give her a "choice" in trying to save her. Yet when you meet the doctor in charge, he's anything but evil. Yet they continue to try and shove this down your throat. He was all about healing. Was he a criminal? Sure he was, his experiments were illegal. Yet being a criminal doesn't make you a bad person. Jessica Jones, is in fact a criminal, and breaks numerous laws in every episode of the show; yet she's a hero. The doctor's goals were to test his theories on people, who were clinically dead, in order to see if his gene editing techniques could heal these people and bring them back to life. The side effects of these experiments was super strength (which we learn the side effects are determined by their pre-existing genes) and mood swings. We learn from a character that knew Jessica before the accident, that Jessica always had a volatile attitude, they were always miserable, and they were always anti-social. Jessica wasn't as damaged as the other patient, who also got super strength, but we're led to believe that her mood swings and irritability were amplified by the procedure. This patient was thankful to the doctor for the second chance he gave her, and the work he did to help her re-acclimate to the world by treating to help get these mood swings and rage under control. They actually wind up getting married. I'm trying to avoid too many spoilers, but Jessica re-uniting with the other patient shows just how unsavory Jessica Jones actually is. Jessica was not happy to re-unite with someone she was longing for since the very beginning of the series, but she wanted it on her terms; much like how she treats all her relationships. It's always her way, or the highway. NOw her best friend Trish, it comes out that she's jealous of Jessica's super powers. So she seeks the doctor to try to gain these powers. He tells her the procedure could be fatal, but that he trusts the procedure will succeed. Jessica finds out, crashes the procedure in the middle of it. The doctor tells her, Trish could die if she doesn't allow him to finish. Jessica doesn't care. She tears the equipment apart, and has to hold herself back from bashing the good doctor into a bloody pulp. So Jessica, while constantly complaining he never gave her a choice, denies Trish her choice and is willing to kill Trish because she didn't was exercising a choice that Jessica didn't agree with. What's worse, she acts like this is the doctor's fault, Trish kidnapped him so he would do this procedure. He was not advertising or forcing these treatments on new patients. So, after Jessica pulls back from the idea of murdering the good doctor, he grabs Trish's gun and aims it at explosive canisters, states he miraculously has changed his view on his life's work, and tells Jessica to grab Trish and get far away because he's going to destroy his work. So he blows himself and the lab up. Really?!? This is how irrational the whole season was. It's so disappointing, cause season 1 was really good; and then we get this abortion of a season. I guess that's why it's getting favorable critic scores...because it has two things that mainstream media loves: 1.) GIrl Power; and 2.) Abortions (figuratively, not literally). It has no structure, dialog is grating, a boring story, and relationships feel completely forced. All these should matter more than politically charged themes within the plot, when conducting a review or creating content. They better get it together when they put out season 3 in another 2 to 3 years. Expand

Absolute slop. What happened? No clear antagonist, terribly boring writing, everyone is unlikeable. Season 1 was really good, this is unbearable.

The Marvet/Netflix series have been in a slump for a couple of years now. After the great second season of Daredevil, we got the very "middle-of-the-road" first season of Luke Cage, the incredibly poor first season of Iron Fist, and the disappointment that was The Defenders. I started to worry that maybe these shows were losing their touch and maybe replicating the success of the MCU filmsThe Marvet/Netflix series have been in a slump for a couple of years now. After the great second season of Daredevil, we got the very "middle-of-the-road" first season of Luke Cage, the incredibly poor first season of Iron Fist, and the disappointment that was The Defenders. I started to worry that maybe these shows were losing their touch and maybe replicating the success of the MCU films on television wasn't possible. The first season of the Punisher was certainl a step in the right direction, but even that show had it's fair share of issues. Now after having finished the second season of Jessica Jones, I think I have regained some confidence in the Marvel/Netflix shows again.

Let's begin with the obvious: this is not as good as the first season. Jessica Jones season 2 lacks the serious tension and stakes of the first season and lacks a compelling villain to drive the story forward. In fact, I think the argument could be made that this season really didn't have a villain at all, or at least a tradition superhero villain. The show does have antagonists, to be sure, but as bad as Shades, Black Mariah, Diamondback, and every member of The Hand(with possibly the exception of Gao), at least they were clear villains that you could direct your ire towards.

In lieu of the traditional hero v villain story, Jessica Jones maintains it's tone of NOT being a superhero show- it's Noir Crime drama with a super-powered woman as its central character- JJs2 opts to tell a different kind of story. Where as the first season dealt primarily with Jessica dealing with the trauma of what she suffered with Kilgrave, this season focus more on the trauma Jessica suffers from her past long before Kilgrave. The first season gave us glimpses into who Jessica was as a person, and this one takes a much deeper look into her as a character, which for the most part winds up being rather interesting. Jessica is a broken character that refuses to acknowledge that she's broken and buries her grief in booze, her work, and casual sex. This season sees her actually forced into a situation where she has to deal with her pain instead of running from it. The people closest to her, Malcom and Trish were her anchors in the first season and continue that role for much of this one until both of them eventually cease to be Jessica's sidekicks and turn into their own characters. Malcom finally gains agency and becomes his own man by the end that doesn't rely on Jessica; Eka Darville delivers a rather strong performance and remains a likeable character throughout. Rachel Taylor returns with another strong run as Trish(letting her accent noticeably slip every so often). This season we see Trish go from Jessica's strongest tether and into a downward spiral in arc that leaves you wondering if she'll come out stronger than ever or just irreparably damaged(it's a comic book show so you can probably tell which way ). We see Carrie Ann Moss become a much more emotionally vulnerable Carrie Ann Moss this season after receiving news that she is stricken with an incurable disease. Others include J.R. Ramirez as Oscar, Jessica's new building super and love interest, Terry Chen playing the incredibly unlikable and ultimately irrelevant Pryce Cheng, Callum Keith Rennie as Karl Malus(the only "villain" from the comics), and Janet McTeer delivering a surprisingly deep performance as Alisa Jones.

The pace of the show starts it off as a rather slow burn, but by the fourth or fifth episode it begins to pick up pace and becomes incredibly hard to put down after that, though as stated before, it never rises to the level of tension from the first season. This season is all about growth for all these characters. We get to see Jessica deal with her demons and try and allow herself to want more for herself, we see Malcom grow into a fully realized character, and we see Trish go through a sort of deconstruction that may end up with a stronger pay off by the time the third season rolls around.

Overall, while not nearly as strong as season 1, JJs2 is enjoyable enough to keep Jessica Jones up there as one of the top Marvel/Netflix shows. It rises above the Defenders, Iron Fist, and even Luke Cage at times, I would say it's on par with The Punisher; both shows deal with similar themes surrounding trauma. If anything this season gives us a look into one of the series more interesting characters and has me hopeful for the future of the Marvel/Netflix shows. Hopefully, Luke Cage continues along this path when season 2 drops this summer.

Unfortunately the season 2 of Jessica Jones wasn't nearly as good as season 1 was, the decay of quality in here was tremendous.
Here they most likely have 3 lines of story, one with Jessica investigating his past and how she got her powers. One with Jeri Harper the lawyer, that figured that she have a lethal disease. And one with Trish Walker dealing with her problems and trying to help
And one with Trish Walker dealing with her problems and trying to help Jessica. In some moments one story get to help the other, but isn't made in the best possible way, it felt like having 3 nucleis just created a absence of mind from the real and main story from the season. The story in general isn't bad, it is a good idea to explore the creations of Jessica and everything around it, but at least if they focused on it. Malcom journey was really good, you liked what was going on, even if that was repetitve, showing the same thing every time, but it did have a good development that i enjoyed.
One thing that a really liked in this season was the acting from the most part of the cast in this season, Krysten Ritter just showed why she was the best actress for this role, she did a excellent job, showing Jessica doubts and duallity, showing that even if she exposes to be that arrogant shell, behind that she still kind and have big humanity, stir emotions. Janet McTeer did an pretty good job in most, showing her love, and showing a good rage face to, maybe a little over, but good. Another actor that deserve an special atention here is Callum Keith Rennie, he pass every thing really well, worry and fear at the same time, he did an doctor in a perfect way, trying to making his patients calm, he is very good with expressions.
One Thing that i hate it, was Trish Walker crusade, that was so annoying, they probably were trying to make you dislike her during the season, and if it is really what they tried to, congrats, because everytime that she showed up, doing her idiocy i was annoyed. They did setted up something for next season, and hopefully it will be intresting, because in here it wasn't at all. Harper crusade was better, nothing great, but you got curious to see what was happening there, and in the climax it kind of give us a message, that when we are desperate, we are more susceptible and people could use us. It's nice.
Another thing that a found great in the show was that it doesn't really have that villain, like a good side and a bad side, you can undersstand and maybe be in the side of one, while other person will be against that, that's just great, that's different. The show talks even more about her past, what makes you really know about the character, wich is very good. The chimical between Jessica and other characters all worked very well.
But what really didn't maked me enjoy this season that much, was that they keeped repeating and talking abou the same thing every damn time, we already understodd what some characters was going throw and they keeped saying it, we got it. It's like it doesn't pass the march, the show is too long, it got 13 episodes, with so much parallel stories, it could have like 8 or even less. In some specific moment, Jessica bring back something with a trigger, and it maked sense and was very good, but in one moment they just forgotted about it, and goes away from nowhere and doesn't have anny influence in the plot. The show have a lot of moments with lazy writing, it keeps forgetting about his characters.
Jessica Jones season 2 was ok, to slow, like nothing was happening in most of the time, but with good ideas, and good characters development.

Is a total setback to what was seen in the first. It is announced, because from the first episodes you notice the little interest of her production to innovate the story.

It has reached such a level of decadence that it takes more effort to introduce the subplots and thus be able to cover the dead point in which the serie is often found. It even takes hours to achieve some emotion,

The second season is the weakest of the three, but still very much watchable. Slow at the beginning, but it picks up later on. Some people didn't like the villain, but I did.

The journey into Jessica’s past feels like familiar territory, making the show seem less urgent and less captivating than it previously did. The back end of these 13 episodes is much more exciting and also a lot weirder (in a great way) than the first half.

Once the opening hour catches us up on Jessica’s past and sets the stage for the new season, there are some good things here. We see more of the friendship between Jessica and Trish, and that’s good because female pals are still a TV rarity. ... The best moments of the new season are any scene that features the wonderful Janet McTeer as a mysterious new character.
