Iron Fist is fun show, of course it has problems, but in no way is a horrible series, there are cool characters such as Colleen, the protagonist is also great. Some people don't get it that Danny has been away from "normal" civilization since he was 10, that's why he still has that naive childish personality, and it makes sense.

The ending is way more satisfying than all of the other Netflix shows so far, they had cool starts and bad endings, this one has a slow start (not bad) and a great ending.

As for the fights, Daredevil had better fight scenes when his fighting henchmen, but in Iron Fist when he fights some cool characters who are not just random thugs, the best fighters from The Hand for example, during those times i felt Iron Fist was really cool, the fight against Zhao Cheng was awesome. There were so many memorable fights.

The problems i had with this show was the camera cuts on the first fights of the series, thankfully the camera calmed down later on the season. Other problem was some characters that didn't quite work and just were there to make the plot move, like Ward Meachum.

I'm giving it a 8, really enjoyed this series, and if you're not getting butthurt because they didn't make Iron Fist asian, then you're going to enjoy it also.

    I feel so conflicted.

On one hand, as an asian-american who longs to see more asian characters represented on screen, I understand the accusations of white saviors and cultural appropriation that are being bandied about this show. These issues were always going to be a problem for Iron Fist, because they are inherent to the show's source material.

On the other hand, as a fan of Finn Jones (an actor who embraced representing a stigmatized minority - another one that I belong to - in a year when it was still relatively risky to do so) I can't help but to want to give him a pass.

Looking past all that for a second and I found a competent, if at times clunky, addition to Netflix's Marvel lineup. Some of the dialogue is a bit awkward, the characterization can be inconsistent and not all the fight scenes have the oomph that we might have come to expect, but overall, the show is serviceable. I felt engaged in the narrative far more than I felt put out. More than that, Iron Fist's storytelling succeeded on a basic level that Netflix's previous Marvel entry failed to do for me: at the end of every episode, I wanted to see what would happen next. That's something Luke Cage the show failed to do for me, even despite how much I liked its titular protagonist and his allies.

I think ultimately, I'm glad there is a dialogue happening about some of the valid criticisms Iron Fist as a character is receiving.

At the same time, for my personal enjoyment, I'm glad I watched this show.

UPDATED REVIEW: Score adjusted from 8 to 5.

What I wrote originally is still true, but only for the first 1/3 or so of the show. Hence it gets 5/10 for being half good. The writing and casting falls off drastically. I think the Meachums are wonderfully casted, I love them, and Harold is my favourite character. But the guy they have playing Davos has zero charisma, and he is a main character. Bokuto in particular is terrible, as he's just not convincing as who he's supposed to be.

The writing takes a dive too. Danny Rand goes from being a boyish and carefree kung fu master (with a mean streak) who doesn't take no for an answer, to a whiny wuss. I thought I was watching a show called 'Iron Fist', not 'Weepy Fuccboi'. And he repeatedly has close fights with random guys who he should destroy in seconds. He's been training for decades! He's the goddamn Iron Fist!

I'm also sick and tired of Rosario Dawson's character. At one point she literally says, "It's never okay to kill someone." Why is the Immortal Iron Fist heeding the words of this woman? I want to see him ruthlessly destroy his enemies, not grapple with a manufactured moral dilemma that doesn't even make sense.

I still think it's worth checking out because the beginning of the show is fascinating in that it presents a mystery to be unraveled regarding the circumstances of Danny Rand's tragic past. Also because every moment Harold Meachum is on screen is the **** best. But the show's promise of an interesting plot is just not delivered on.

    Original review follows:

-The show is not slow paced. It's actually a complex, layered narrative with thriller, mystery, and crime drama elements in addition to action. The writing and pacing is one of its strongest points.

-The cast is excellent including Finn Jones. It's another aspect of the show that was criticized the most despite being one of its strongest points. Though I don't like Jessica Henwick's character - she's lovely and does a fine job, but I would personally prefer if her character was a bro and the love interest was someone else.

-The action is the same heavily choreographed style of Daredevil, which isn't my favourite. However a few things make it really enjoyable for me: 1. The acrobatic maneuvers, 2. How he controls his inner chi and the effect that has on fights and other situations, and 3. The Iron Fist power. They drip feed this to you and every time it happens it is fvcking awesome!

-Something I don't see anyone talking about is how Danny Rand goes where he wants. If he wants to see what someone is doing he just follows them and infiltrates structures which I find highly entertaining as I didn't expect this type of action to be in the show.

Cliffs notes: Solid show with great writing, casting, acting, and action. The premise is totally different from Daredevil/Luke Cage/Jessica Jones which appeals a lot more to me. If you like kung fu movies you have to check this one out.

Finally a note on the negative press this show has received: It's bizarre that it doesn't have a single green review from the mainstream media. There's no rational explanation for that other than a political agenda, which is kind of scary.

You can tell Netflix is sensitive about this turd-blossom. I tried to review Iron Fist on the site and I'm locked out of being able to review it. This is horrible. Finn Jones is wooden and the dialogue is cliche driven and stilted. I keep rooting for the Madame Gao of The Hand to win so the series ends. Netflix blew it with Amy Schumer and the losing streak continues with Iron Fist.

The plot holes are ENORMOUS, such as forgetting how to fight whenever they need him subdued by normal people. The 'who's really the worst villain, the obvious bad guy or the twisted, complex woman" motif has been carried over from Luke Cage, badly. I grew up on Power Man and Iron Fist in the eighties, and this is just embarrassingly bad.

If people aren't really paying attention to plot, the decent acting, decent direction and ok cinematography are enough to involve and keep your attention, so I'm not surprised by the number of witless fans who can't understand why people don't like it. How how a 'too long didn't read' version for you: it's moronic.

The family conflict between the Meachums - although it has some clichés - compensated for several boring moments with Danny Rand. The naiveté of this protagonist is sometimes hard to grasp and his inner conflict is as interesting as beating a dead cow. On the plus side the second half of the show definitely gets a lot more interesting. The beginning is just very slow and I guess less episodes might have helped.

Overall it would appear to me that just like the protagonist, the show still needs to find its way. Maybe the next season will bring it on track. We'll see...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Besides the excellent cast (Tony Pelphrey has just too good acting and Jessica Henwick astounds in every aspect), Iron Fist sucks. I'm so sorry to come up here and say it but there isn't any other words to put it clearly.

You don't know who the fact is the villain, if there's really a villain in this story. I know it could be mature if it worked correctly but in this storyline, where everything is about what is wrong and right, it just doesn't work. This series could use some great villain, with some badness, ugliness and power.

Madame Gao is a good villain, but her plotline is unconclusive. She jokes everyone, she is immortal, she is a drug dealer and she can use the chi (better than Danny). SHE IS A **** BOSS. But then she is just aprisioned by the Hand (a organization where she has some kind of leadership) in a room and isn't abble to be rescued by the Hand (HER Hand) and she also isn't abble to kick the door off with her power.

The Hand itself doesn't work well. It's just a bunch of teenagers trying to be sucessful in life: what is wrong with you, Danny??

Daredevil kicks drug dealers asses, Luke Cage tanks a lot of bullets (specially from the police) and Jessica Jones drinks a lot and still have the time to save the city from a freaking crazy mastermind controller son of a **** (Luv U Killgrave). Danny can't do anything like that. Coleen is the real deal here. She kills the leader of the High School "the Hand" Musical. She is the one who has a katana and DOENS'T LOSE A FIGHT. WHAT A BOSS, I say.

The other villain, the last villain, the main villain. Harald Meachum. What can I say? He is the worst villain from the Netflix superhero series. And any other superhero from Netflix (AKA Jessica, Luke or Matt) would beat the **** out of him, without being hit by a shot.

Not even the fighting scenes are really cool. They're just generic. The kind of thing you can see in Arrow or Agents of Shield. It would be nice to see some chinese coreographys and mistic things from chi and Kun-Lun, but in the end I kept caged in business bull**** and familiar tragedy 80% of the time.

    Disappointed. Just disappointed.

While it's definitely the weakest thing to come from the MCU since Iron Man 2, Iron Fist isn't devoid of fun. It's just that it seems like a lot less effort went into it compared to the things that have come before. Almost like the people behind it said "people are eating up all these superhero shows and movies lately, so we don't really have to try. Especially since this is a Marvel character. It's practically guaranteed to succeed!" It's this kind of thinking that shines through in several key areas such as casting and writing. There's still some kung-fu cheesiness to keep us going and it shows another side of the MCU by giving us a longer stay into the lives of it's newest hero. It even expands the overall lore. It just doesn't hold a candle to the other Marvel Netflix series.

Probably the biggest issue comes from Danny Rand himself. He's just not very believable as a hero. This is partially due to the writing's portrayal of the character. He's less kung fu master and more airheaded rich boy. Danny has a rather irritating habit of barging into people's lives and expecting them to just drop everything to help him out because his daddy owned a company. Apparently being raised by monks for 15 or so years didn't help him lose that sense of entitlement that comes with having a lot of money. That's not to say he's unlikable though. In fact, at times his naivety and genuine sweetness is outright charming in a natural way. Danny is at his most likable when he's doing things like absent mindedly making an origami flower for his secretary while talking to her. It's a shame he can't sell the fighter part.

Another reason the Iron Fist ends up being the weakest part of his own show is due to the fact that the performance of Finn Jones also leaves a bit to be desired. It's like they picked him based off of his looks as opposed to actual ability to play the character. To be honest the acting is pretty weak all around. Everybody is just kind of phoning it in for that Marvel money. Well, that's not entirely true. Jessica Henwick and Tom Pelphrey are both enjoyable. Mostly because they are given the strongest writing.

As far as the actual plot goes, it too leaves something to be desired. The first half of the season can be kind of a drag as not much is happening outside of Danny having troubles being reintroduced to live in NY. It isn't until half way through that the action picks up. Even then it's often more interesting to watch the side-characters engage in boardroom politics than it is to see Danny struggle with his arch enemies "The Hand." There are still some compelling elements to that side of things though. Danny's PTSD from witnessing the death of his parents adds some more depth and the returning Wai Ching Ho as Madame Gao is just as fantastic as ever.

The action isn't too bad either. Nowhere near as good as Daredevil though. The choreography could use some work here and there and like I said Jones just isn't very believable as a hero, much less one of the MCU's most skilled martial artists. There are still plenty of awesome fights though. Particularly whenever Henwick's character gets involved in some very exciting sword fights. It's all certainly much more exciting than watching Jessica Jones and Luke Cage awkwardly flip bad guys repeatedly.

This is more of a cheesy martial arts movie that a full-fledged and polished entry into the MCU. It's evident not as much care went into this as with the previous MCU shows. The choreography is lacking, the writing can get pretty hokey, and it's miscast is several key ears. Yet, at the end of the day I didn't find it to be an outright abomination. In fact it can be pretty fun. It's just that you really have to be into the whole superhero thing to put up with it's more glaring flaws, of which there are an obscene amount for something baring MCU connections.

Unfortunately, with each episode, the show gets a little worse, not better. What happened, Netflix? Your other Marvel-based shows has been so, but this one just has crappy writing and slow pacing. The "corporate evil vs. kind heart" scenarios are presented with a first grade level of nuance. The martial arts aren't very good and are remarkably inconsistent (Danny keeps teaching Colleen how to be a better fighter, yet he keeps getting nearly beaten up by lone thugs without much skill). The pseudo-profundities Danny keeps uttering are cringeworthy, both because they're terribly cheesy AND because they're delivered with an amateurishness that make him sound like a beginner attempting to sound like he thinks "a master" should sound. Colleen's classes are terribly cliched, both in how she teaches and how her students act. The pre-fight (and mid-fight!) poses that Danny adopts are right out of the worst 80s Americanized martial arts movies. I can normally laugh at silly martial arts stereotypes, but these just make me cringe. As I said, the pacing is way off, too. There might be 4 episodes worth of story here, but it takes 13 episodes to tell.

The cast is pretty good, but the writers should cut their teeth on some low-budget, low-stakes shows to get some practice before tackling ANY network's flagship show, especially for a network that sets a bar as high as Netflix does.

If you're a big fan of the Netflix Marvel sub-universe, Iron Fist is worth watching to follow the ongoing plot lines that'll weave together in The Defenders, but while it's not exactly a slog to get through, it's not a good show by any stretch of the imagination.

This show has magical realism a la Dr. Strange, and a Buddhist, hippy, somewhat down-to-earth vibe. It's different. That being said, Iron First is not pretending to be an immensely profound, provocative work of cinema a la Hitchcock, Kubrick or Bunuel. The critics who rate it below a 6 fail to appreciate creative storytelling, dynamic action scenes, and an important, underlying Buddhist philosophy. "If one wants the truth, hold no opinions". These critics need to take a step back and re-evaluate why people watch a show. It's amazing to me how they can fail to appreciate honest entertainment, while drool over contrived, unrealistic banter and storytelling that pretends to be rooted in our universe - such as the cinematic drivel Silver Linings Playbook, Arrival, or August Osage County.

Amazing show! Started off slow, but got super interesting, Complaints about white privilege or whatever aside, the show is really well made. The characters are excellent, and seeing them change due to the events of the show is really interesting

Very good casting for all characters. "Iron Fist" design is awesome. Story is complicated. That's good or bad for everyone. Fight scenes are too short, but CGI is at-least good

Lets get something straight, Iron Fist isn't terrible. It isn't awful, its not good though either. This show suffers from the same problem the back half of Luke Cage suffers from, except here we have 13 episodes instead of 6. Finn Jones needs work here, his rendition of Iron Fist isn't perfect, he seems to not really know how to portray him, so it becomes confused and all over the place. Danny wants back in his company, and we spend a couple episodes about it, but then, he seemingly wants nothing to do with it afterwards, he barely shows up to meetings, and refuses to listen to board members, which makes you think what was the point of it? The show's dialogue is fine, but the story is jumbled. There is no clear antagonist either, which is really upsetting, we jump back and forth between possible villains only for them to be axed off a few episodes later. Its not a bad show, but its confusing and doesn't really know what it wants to be. I'm noticing a trend with the Marvel Netflix shows as of late. Both Daredevil season 2, Luke Cage, and now Iron Fist all have issues with keeping a coherent story. Hopefully Defenders will fix this with just 8 episodes. But i'd still recommend this show, its necessary for Defenders, and it does have some good in it. Just not perfect. Expand

Maybe it was because of the outrage prior to it starting because the main character wasn't played by an Asian. Maybe it's because the Marvel canon seems to get so huge and remain so good that they felt the need to knock them down a bit. But it sure wasn't based on the actual quality of this show and in all actuality, this is just as entertaining as the other three Marvel/Netflix ventures. I felt that all of the characters on this show had interesting story lines; and as much as they revolved around the Iron Fist (aka Danny Rand), they worked on their own individual levels as well. That's not something you see all the time, and many subplots can get in the way of a show as a whole. I was especially intrigued about the twists and turns of the Meachum family and I liked how the dynamics kept switching. I also felt the Colleen Wing character had her own troubles and beliefs she had to struggle with to be interesting as well. So what was their major beef? Well, let's start with the most obvious and the one that is actually true. The Iron Fist's fight scenes were not up to par; that is glaringly obvious and something they truly need to look at when season 2 comes around. Especially when you're comparing them to Colleen Wing's. She was awesome and I don't know if I should credit the actress, Jessica Henrick, or her stunt double, but I'm going to give more credit to the actress because she also did a good job in the role other than the fight scenes. The second biggest complaint that I've read was Danny's character as a whole. Let's be honest, he's not always likable. He's stubborn & pigheaded, a bit childish as well as a little quick tempered. I'm going to assume the majority of the critics did not watch the whole series, but only the first few. Because as the story progresses, it becomes clear that he is like that for a reason. And really, it isn't truly out in the open until the final episode when Gao bluntly tells him why he is the way he is. He also has a very immature, naive side of him as well that some may have found annoying. I found his utter lack of understanding business a bit ridiculous. But I pose this question: what if you entered into the real world after only being surrounded by mountains and monks and your education was limited to the philosophies of life and learning your "chi"? Yeah, you probably be a little confused and stupid too. So maybe get over it now. Maybe there was a problem with the pacing of the show; is that it? Well, we all know that each one of the Marvel/Netflix shows has a problem w/ pacing (and quite frankly, alot of other quality shows suffer that same thing). Jessica Jones could have been a whole 2 episodes shorter. And Daredevil, as much as I enjoy it, is even worse. So it's a non-issue, really. Especially since the second half of Iron Fist doesn't suffer that problem at all.

I think I've made my point. You can watch this on it's own or as part of the Marvel Universe and I think you'd enjoy it. There's alot to like. The plot that drives the story is interesting and will keep you wanting to keep watching.

One more shout out: to Rosario Dawson, because I don't think her, or her character Claire Temple, get enough credit. She's the backbone to these superheroes and Rosario does an awesome f--king job playing the part. Can't wait to see her in the Defenders!

The character's in general are made to make poor and nonsensical decisions, to the point that it's all incredibly immersion breaking. The way Harold constantly talks like he's trying to soothe a child will make you scream in pain.
The story itself is ok thankfully, and is a small reward for sitting through it all. It's just a shame about the character writing.

Some of the writing is unrealistic to have a drug factory with very few guards with an organized crime clan or a business that has been hundreds of years with five to ten guards Max and antique come at a character one to two at a time insults the intelligence of The View. The drama is good for soap opera or any other type of drama base program so that's what probably saves the show for most of it. I foresee a big problem with the coming Defenders based on this, and that is the action scenes that will be a must in a street level SuperHero group will be VERY hard to match with a coherent feel, if Luke Cage can hit a BADDY he will go down, pretty much the same with Jessica and Luke, but DareDevil has only normal human Strengths, so would be much slower putting his opponent down . leaving a messy fight choreography at best, In reality DD would make an excellent reconnaissance job for the trio of Luke Jessica and Danny, all in all The Defenders will be the decider for all the previous instalments. if they can get the action to be "Realistic" and the pace consistently tense with crescendos in places of need then Iron fist will have passed muster but as it is now I feel it doesn't quite rank with the rest, that being said it also has more potential to stand on its own feet than Luke and Jessica. Maybe most egregious, the fight scenes were almost hard to watch. There were multiple times where you could see no contact being made, illogical choices during confrontations, and just overly choreographed conflicts. Colleen Wing's character had better, more believable fight scenes than the main character did and she did a commendable job with the character pretty poor material. The Meachum family delivered pretty compelling portrayals of their characters and were one of the few positive of this series. Another problem with this series was the way the Hand was portrayed. In Daredevil, the Hand was a menacing, dangerous legion of mystical ninjas. In Iron Fist, they were a bunch of children and random dudes who took a few self defense classes at the local YMCA. Rosario Dawson was solid as usual, but even she couldn't help elevate the show with its poor writing. I disagree with a lot of users here who think politics played into the critics' reviews of the show. The show was just bad. However, I do think if any other actor with more of an on screen presence and the ability to make us believe he was a actually a master of kung fu were cast, then it would have made a huge difference. Some fights had lots of cuts, but I can't really complain about it as much as other people, because I could still understand what was happening and enjoy it. When you complain about the lots of cuts you have to first remember that Finn Jones isn't a true martial arts master, and he had very little training, and since he doesn't use a suit yet, many times the cuts are necessary to provide the feel that he knows how to fight. The fights may improve overtime as he gets more trained or, even better, when he get his suit. Either way, I don't really thought the fights were as bad people said it to be. The story is confusing and convoluted and there is little in the way of easy answers. it's not social commentary in the same vein as Jessica Jones or Luke Cage and it's not an underdog story like Daredevil. This is the story of a supernaturally competent warrior who abandons his duty to follow his own path and in doing so enters a world filled with people who lie, use and manipulate him. It's the story of a man out of control and floundering for purpose and meaning.

In short, it's very much like normal life, minus the mysticism, martial arts and conspiracies. ...and ninjas.

Danny Rand is off-kilter and filled with rage and doubt. He doesn't understand how ugly and filled with lies the world is. With each betrayal he becomes angrier and less focused, and like the man-child he is, he is unable to process these emotions because in K'un-Lun he was taught to bury their emotions instead of deal with them.

I love the story, it speaks to the basic duplicity of American society and the ease with which we lie to one another. It doesn't challenge social norms, it exposes them for the sometimes horrible things that they are.

They stayed true to the source material and delivered each character excellently. Changing Iron fist's race or origin story would have completely ruined the show, just as removing the character and adding a different character to the team only to make the show more PC would have done.

Secondly the pacing of the show is excellent. They did a great job slowly introducing the characters, the origin of iron fist, and the plot. If they threw it all at you during the first few episodes, it would have been ridiculous. Way to many shows and movies these days are all action with no plot and character development, and Iron Fist has plenty of both along with amazing action sequences.

It may not be the best of the recent Marvel wave but its still well acted, with likeable leads and plenty of action. If you really disliked the story you could perhaps stretch to a justifiable 5/10 but any lower than that would be almost impossible to justify in the same way that the show clearly doesn't deserve a 9 or 10. There'S a lot of things that could have been done better, most importantly for me, the fight choreography. Given the premise the fights scenes needed to stand out and pack a real sense of danger and force. As it is they are simply serviceable where they could have been awesome. It is a missed opportunity and likely disappointing for fans of the character. But this only means that the show fails to be a 'great' show, not that doing so makes it skip several grades straight to bad. Thankfully I think most fans of genre entertainment now know that its the fan score rather than the critic score which carries most weight (tbh do critics carry any weight anymore?). Expand

5 the greatest American hero as the curly headed hero blunders his way around
6 every single show about big business that makes them the bad guys all the time for trying to make a profit.

None of these have anything to do with plot. They are images that the show uses and none of them are original. The plot is slow in developing, the king fu dancing is terrible even as a dance. David Caradine got the Kung fu job because he was a dancer and I am sure it shows in the old shows.

I keep looking for something else to watch. Lately it has been Chinese and Korean movies.

It's hard to grasp who the characters are and what motivates them.

Particularly for Danny who is the main character of the show. I'm still not clear on what his motivation is. He zig zags between "pretending" to be a wise, monk (who spouts half-assed asian sayings that I don't believe from him), to being a totally ass and jerk in another scene (he's arrogant, is rude to those who are trying to help/understand him, and he even goes so far as to strike a student who is so far beneath him). I find it hard to really identify or like this hero. He's petulant, arrogant, idiot-like, and can be downright mean some times.
If you can't build a superhero that the fans actually like, that's a complete lack of vision.

The production on this show is horrible, dare I say worse than an episode of Arrow (and i like Arrow). At least Arrow is fun, the fight scenes are fun, the acting is hyper dramatic, but it's fun. Iron Fist is not fun, in any way. The fight scene choreography and filming makes it look lazy. I cannot believe that Iron Fist is a good martial arts fighter. His movements are not crisp, sharp, they look lazy... not powerful. It is as if the producers did not even look at Martial Arts films before filming this, did not discuss or have a vision for what makes a good martial arts fight scene. If they did, then they got it completely wrong, and that's just sad. Even a horrid show with horrid dialogue with great fight scenes would be better than this.

But in the end we get
    - horrid story - uninteresting, uninspired, few twists, no feeling of impending danger, unclear who the villain is, or complexity of the villain
    - horrid dialogue - unconvincing, childish dialogue that remind me of Anakin Skywalker in the prequels, actors appear schizophrenic (all of them)
    - horrid fighting - this is kind of the heart of Iron Fist as a hero - you need to get this right, and it's wrong all the way through.

Makes me afraid for Defenders. I definitely do not want to see more of Danny Rand.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The show started off incredibly well. The first three episodes had great progression, and things actually made sense. As the series went on, more and more events seemed unreasonable. Daredevil's no-kill policy made sense, even though it was a stretch, but the reasoning for the same policy here was ludicrous. The final battle was a complete joke - his opponent wouldn't have even been able to land a hit. And if earlier in the show he could only use his chi to power his hand once in a while, how come he was able to do it multiple times within 5 minutes in the last battle? Madame Gao has powerful telekinesis - why did she never use it again against Danny or to get out of prison? So many flaws in the storyline, and a progressively unlikeable main character. Easily the worst Marvel series to date. Expand

The only thing that saves this as a C is the actors playing Coleen, Madame Gao, Claire Temple and the Meachums (though their storyline should have been cut). They do their best with poor material. They deserved better. Missed opportunities? The drunk fighter in China.

The biggest Sin is that a series that should be build on action and fantasy and mysticism doesn't. Why didn't they get the stunt coordinators from daredevil? Where was his life in the mystical city? His teachers? His trials and tribulations? His fight with the dragon!!! That would have made a rip roaring fantasy adventure in flashback that they could have intercut with his battle with the hand in NY. They just didn't understand the character at all. It's like they ripped him right out of those 70's comics without taking the time to translate Danny for Today.

Those fights had energy and were dynamic. Finn Jones shouldn't have been cast. He does his best. You can tell he's trying, but he fails to sell anything about Danny except for the whiny part. The man whines. I know that's the dialogue, but man the other actors elevate the crappy writing to some degree. Finn just can't escape it's clutches. He has no charisma. He's like a blank frat boy. And I haven't even touched on the problematic Asian stereotypes and unfortunate scenes that leave a bad feeling. Keeping Danny Rand white isn't the problem. It's the fact that they didn't update all the icky racial demagoguery. They needed another Actor. Whose that Guy from the Flash who plays Eddie Thawne? That Guy can emote. That guy has the bod, That guy has the ability to convey vulnerability and strength. Oh well. Opportunity lost. I'm glad they didn't make Danny Rand Asian American because he would have been stuck with this mess of a show and the race change would have been blamed.

The only good from this can be a Daughters of The Dragon series with Colleen, Misty, and hopefully now Claire as their medic/backup. If they do a Heroes for Hire Series please let it be instead of an Iron Fist season 2. We don't need the punishment of that. None of the Marvel Series are perfect but at least Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage for all their pacing problems delivered compelling characters, strong plot, and dynamic villains (madame Gao is great they needed to use her more also the villains who could have been her strong lieutenants were forgotten about too soon I'm looking at you Bride of Nine Spiders).

    Overall: C minus.

The show at least doesn't condescend to viewers the way Luke Cage did in its final episodes. Some things need to be fixed, though; the tattoo on the chest is off center, so that looks weird, the hand shouldn't just 'glow' - it should look almost like it's on fire, and the glow/fire should extend to the whole hand, not just his knuckles - that just looks weird. Also - when he 'cleaned up' and suited up, he should also have gotten a haircut to look more like Danny has recently looked in the comic books. The fight choreography could also be better.

It's good that Davos was introduced since this could easily lead up to one of the better story arcs from the comic book, Lei-Kung, and all that stuff.

Iron Fist ranks as one of the most enjoyable Marvel experiences to date. Let me be clear, the critics have this wrong. First, this is one of the most diverse shows on television today. Yes, there was a call to Marvel to cast Danny as an Asian American, and yes, the producers ultimately decided to stay true to the comic book. However, when you look deeper than just the leading man, youIron Fist ranks as one of the most enjoyable Marvel experiences to date. Let me be clear, the critics have this wrong. First, this is one of the most diverse shows on television today. Yes, there was a call to Marvel to cast Danny as an Asian American, and yes, the producers ultimately decided to stay true to the comic book. However, when you look deeper than just the leading man, you realize that the show not only boasts a phenomenal cast of women and minorities, but also a diverse crew from guest directors to art direction to stunts (something that has been fought for in Hollywood for ages and continues to be an issue). Jessica Henwick is amazing as Colleen Wing, portraying a kick ass woman who stands equal to her male counterpart on every level. Wai Ching Ho as Madame Gao has been a fascinating and quietly formidable presence from her first introduction on Daredevil.

What the critics fail to realize is that Danny is one of 67 Iron Fists. If you look at the fantastic comic series created by Brubaker and Fraction, you will find there are 66 other Iron Fists, the majority of whom are of Asian descent. Danny Rand is only an introduction to this world, opening the door to the possibility of seeing a multitude of Iron Fists. Danny’s ethnicity only highlights his status an an outsider among the inhabitants of K’un-Lun (not to mention interracial relationships with Colleen Wing on the show and Misty Knight in the comic).

Much ado was made about Jessica Jones and Luke Cage for the real life issues that the main characters faced. Unfortunately, despite their talented casts, the writers of each show stopped with the underlying issues they were aiming to highlight and did not bother to craft a story. Killgrave (the villain of Jessica Jones) seemed weak and petty, despite his terrifying powers, compared to other Marvel villains, and the plot of Luke Cage moved at a snail’s pace to uninspired conclusions. Critics raved about these shows, praising them for “pushing boundaries” when in reality, the characters both deserved much stronger stories than they were given.

Iron Fist brought a refreshing balance between the action of Daredevil and the plodding introspection of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

It’s unfortunate that critics and fair-weather viewers who most likely never heard of Iron Fist and most certainly never read the comics feel they need to slam the show just for the sake of sparking controversy. Have some patience, let Iron Fist grow, and maybe we’ll get to see the Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay, Wu Ao-Shi, shoot her Chi-laced arrows too.

P.S. Please give Danny an Iron Fist costume!

Iron Fist starts slow, after the 2nd episode I was actually frustrated. However I was really glad I kept with it. This was a fantastic experience for me, I enjoyed it almost as much as Daredevil. It is a different story to the previous series, actually very well crafted, excellently told, the only fault I would give the story telling is that it doesn't cater to well to the ADD audience and isn't highly attentive to pacing. For me this is a huge positive, the characterisation becomes much stronger for it, where the story is paying attention to the lives of the characters it doesn't throw in an action scene just to keep me watching, I get a real feel for who each of them are, and reveals more and plays with my assumptions as I go, revealing things I hadn't realised before.

The casting is very strong in my opinion, the main character Danny Rand is played as a non typical protagonist. He is brilliantly pulled off with child like naivety and innocence but believably kicks ass. I should mention the fight scenes are not the greatest part of the show, I have seen much better in the likes of Daredevil, that's not to say the action isn't fun, it is, it just isn't as impact-ful or artful as DD.
I also think the casting of the secondary characters is as good as the main protagonist, Colleen Wing is excellent and as likable as Danny Rand. There are very few weak performances.

This has left me very excited for the Defenders, Daredevil started me off in love, Jessica Jones was an enjoyable watch, DD season 2 got me excited again, then Luke Cage made me realise these series were being made by very different people. Iron Fist has put me back to how excited I was after Daredevil, it's a great character that will clearly be very different to the previous 3 and is as likable as any of them.

Compared to Luke Cage, it has a similar rate of plot development (aka slow), and gives good insight into lack of morality in the corporate world, in the same way that Luke Cage gives insight into the African-American community in Harlem. Analyzing the show on its own, it has good fight scenes, especially given the fact that the actor had to do it instead of a stunt double (since he's not a masked hero). The show gives the main character a good moral compass, and gives a unique story of how he accustoms himself to the modern world and to certain human emotions which he was forbidden from expressing, mainly love. I think most critics bashed this show because they want to see less white leads, even though the majority of the U.S. is white. Unlike critics, I see the good in shows, and this show has a lot of it. 1) Actual moral grey. Yes, I know the punisher killed people, but he only kills BAD GUYS. Having villains who can be reasonable and even sympathetic contrasted with heroes who screw up is just more interesting to me, and Iron Fist does a better job of that than any of the previous series.

    2) Good characterization. Every person in the story has believable motivations and takes reasonable actions to further those goals. None of that "I'm going to destroy the world because I'm eeeeviiiiillll" nonsense.

    3) For the love of god, this wasn't suppose to wrap up Danny's story in a neat little bow. The Hand are going to be the major villains the Defenders fight against. Obviously there's going to be more to come in his character arc, so he's not going to finish dealing with his demons here.

    4) Ninjas. You can hate on it all you want, but I thought the fight choreography was just as good as Daredevil.

    5) Acting. In addition to the returning cast that we love from the other shows, I thought Finn Jones did a credible job, and Jessica Henwick was FANTASTIC as Colleen. Supporting cast was solid too.

    6) Diversity. I liked the wide variety of characters and culture presented in the show. I find it amusing to see people complaining about how the characters aren't fitting into their neat little ethnic boxes like they're supposed to. Why? Is it bad for people to adopt other cultures as their own?

    7) Character growth. Arguably, Danny didn't change that much, and I can see why that would annoy Iron Fist fans, but every other major character in the season went through complete arcs, which is nothing short of amazing. As someone who wasn't a fan of the Iron Fist before this show, I'm just as interested in the Beechems and Colleen as I am in the titular character.

I don't know. To each their own. My order of favorites right now is: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage. I'm looking forward to the Defenders.

The Meachums are the biggest example of this. The story arc of Ward is amazing. At first you see he is an **** then you see why he behaves this way, you get to see his life as the son of Harold, then you see what comes from all of this, sorry for the crappy explanation but i don't want to spoil it. But think of the lines of King Pin from Daredevil Season 1, there is a reason, a cause, that makes him who he is, and we get to see that and be a part of it.

Danny Rand's Journey through out this whole first season to me was organic, it makes sense that hes not "Iron Fist" yet, hes never dealt with the loss of his parents yet. Even after 15 years of training, hes not emotionally matured. The monks are warriors, they teach to fight, not to enlighten (different kind of monks). By the end of the season he has closure and a better understanding of what his purpose might be in the world. He went in as a 10 year old buy, and now he still sorta acts like a 10 year old boy which makes sense since hes never been taught to emotionally deal with his conflicts but by the end he does mature more. If you stick to it through the end you will get a better understanding, again i dont want to spoil anything.

In this new age of low attention span society its no wonder this show gets all the **** it does, people are not even giving story a chance play out, they just want instant gratification. Hell we all know the only reason Game of Thrones can get away with slow story is because in between they show **** and sex.

Bottom line is the story is good, but it takes its sweet time to tell it, hell even at the end its not over, this directly connects to The Defenders "Obvious spoiler alert" it ends on a cliff hanger "duh"

Fighting: Now here is where I find myself sometimes agreeing with the critics and the haters, YES the choreograph is lacking, I mean after seeing the amazing Daredevil season 1 and 2, the fighting here leaves you wanting more.

BUT, and its a huge but, the fighting IS NOT boring, it is executed well, meaning the moves are done right, it does NOT look like a crappy B rated kung fu film. We get to see more flow in the fighting, which makes sense because this is more Chinese wushu and tai chi style of fighting and not brawling or straight "im going to KILL you" fighting. Chinese style martial arts is like a dance, a deadly dance.

And I do agree Finn Jones isnt the best, but hell the dude only had like what was it? 2-3 months to train, for 2-3 months he does DAMN GOOD job. He can only get better, so The Defenders and Season 2 Iron Fist will keep improving.

Please give this show a chance, It really is NOT the crap show every critic out there is panning it out to be.

I don't know what people's problems are. Iron Fist is a perfectly serviceable, entertaining show to watch. Not the best, but far, FAR from the worst..

Critics are obviously firebombing this series with their political bs. I enjoy it and to see such low critic scores in comparison to other similar shows, such as Luke Cage, is ridiculous.

Acting is bad and the fight choreography needs more work. They made the lead role act like a child in man's clothing. This didn't fit his roll. The only thing good about this show is that it moves along at a decent pace.

Most of the Marvel/Netflix series build up to big fight scenes. Iron fist is full of them. THe plot shows how a native New Yorker ends up in a Buddhist Monastery but yearns to go back - but not before he is trained to be the 'Iron Fist'. I really don;t understand how hard it would be to do a city-wide shot with a CG Stark Tower or Osborn Industries in the background. Or a shot of them looking up to the sky as Iron Man flies by or even Falcon or War Machine - just something more than what we're getting. Expand

I loved this show. Probably my second favorite of the netflix marvel shows so far. I just thought jessica jones was too brilliant. This show is like daredevil in the light. Danny's chi abilities remind me of early dragon ball z characters, its awesome !

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Me and my boys (16 and 18 yrs.) LOVED Iron Fist, as we have loved all the Marvel/Netflix shows. Personally I would have liked to see more of Kun Lun and more of Davos but we always have next season! So much for the so-called critics. Dudes! These are adaptions of the comics WE the fans love. U just do not get it. Expand

I decided to rate and review, 'cos critics rate this show absurdly low, as is they're hired for such negative reviews.
For me The Iron Fist is deeper than any other superhero tv series.

Finally, as usual, if you're paying attention you can catch continuity and writing goofs. If you enjoyed the other 3 you'll enjoy this one. Sadly I can't help but think critics panned this because its a rich white guy and not a blind man, a woman, or a minority, but that's the world we live in.

After finishing: Sadly the series gets worse as it goes and the ending is a total disappointment. It never hits terrible as a 37 would suggest (although perhaps the last episode does), but it's definitely nothing better than mediocre. The writing goofs build up, Danny's development is too uneven and does not reflect 15 years of hard training in Kun Lun. At the end of the day not a single character really seems to have the power of solid reasoning or even the slightest bit of foresight.

Considering there are 0 (ZERO) positive critic reviews for the show, it's obvious there is something more going on here than typical criticism. Overall, I'm seeing critics attempting to let everyone know how much they dislike white people doing martial arts. That's bizarre (just look at the critic reviews for Luke Cage, if you want to see EXACTLY what I mean). Overall, I'm seeing critics attempting to let everyone know how much they dislike white people doing martial arts. That's bizarre (just look at the critic reviews for Luke Cage, if you want to see EXACTLY what I mean). It's like the worst thing anyone can do these days is be a white guy, especially in Hollywood. People make claims like "oscars so white" and such, but America is majority white, if the oscars represented America, then more white people would get awards than non-whites! Common sense. But these reviewers seems to be looking for racism or cultural insensitivity. As if no-one knew that the comic book this is based on has existed for over 40 years! Anyways, the show is good (granted, it probably didn't deserve a 10 - a better actor for Rand would've helped but, I'm trying to offset the "PC zombies"), Marvel has been handling all these shows excellently. Hope that Marvel (aka Disney) actually ignores these "critics" and the TV series don't go the politically correct direction of their new comics (which are selling MISERABLY compared to DC). It's truly sad that artists can do an excellent, solid piece of work and its hated by the "mainstream press" because of this PC, thought-policing, culture that's devestating the entertainment industry and education. It's an obvious problem to see by now (and bugged me enough to actually get my lazy-ass to write a review!). Expand

I wanted to like this show but I just couldn't. What was supposed to be a story about Marvel's greatest martial artist is encumbered by bad casting of the lead role and poor writing. Honestly, I enjoyed the show. It took its time to pick up, but I found it entertaining and good. The first season of Jessica Jones I liked, but I got bored and left at episode 6. So, if these critics are judging on the fist 6 episodes, they need to watch the rest of the story before they can judge. Like I finished JJ at episode 6, but I am not hating on it and saying it was boring. I'mHonestly, I enjoyed the show. It took its time to pick up, but I found it entertaining and good. Another excellent adaptation of a Marvel character. As usual, they get the important things right: character, themes & tone. My only quibble is that I'd have like one episode set in Kun Lun.

Unfortunately, the trouble with Iron Fist doesn’t end once you start actually watching the show, which like its character, is occasionally sweet, frequently maddening, and ultimately kind of lost in Marvel’s New York.
