Excellent show. Stays true to the source material. Good fight scenes and had enough twists present where the show was not predictable, which is a huge selling point to me.

I really don't get all the negative reviews. This is the first series in a while to capture my attention, precisely because of the paced storytelling and the really compelling acting - none of the protagonists are easy cliches, they all have their depths and reasonable agendas, and there is none of the "let me overexplain up front" BS that is so common to poorly written television.I really don't get all the negative reviews. Kudos to Marvel for getting this together, it's my favorite show so far.

Once again, the "reviewers" put their politics ahead of critiquing a show/movie/game on its merits. Marvel's Iron Fist is a fantastic show, with great acting, but features a very underrated Marvel character. Finn Jones does wonders with the character, and the same can be said for Jessica Henwick.

Do not listen to the critics, they're a bunch of idiots.

It's the most underrated show. It's really good. Almost like Daredevil. I don't understand how it's possible. There are a lot of good actors, some of them even from other Marvel shows. It's good iconic story about written character and good action scenes. It has to have 7/10, ok even 6 but not 3.

I think this show has a lot to do with how much you can identify with the characters in it, as do most shows. I recommend giving it a chance and seeing it without an eye towards whether the main character should be asian, but take it at face value. A white guy can go to Asia and learn something. At least this white guy isn't saving Asia (Matt Damon), isn't the Last Samurai (Tom Cruise), or isn't The Last Mohican (Daniel Day Louis).

*****Edit: I just wrote this in response to this article: https://screenrant.com/marvel-iron-fist-better-luke-cage-season-2 - It isn't my best writing but gets the idea across****

    Hey Tom ,

There actually isn't a precedent in Buddhism or in my experience as a graduate from Naropa's Religious Studies Department or as a yogi/meditator towards resolution of one's psychological issues. Mind reflects environment. A cave may provide a still mind, however upon engaging with things that trigger one's patterns, one's patterns come up. We tend to identify with our patterns. Danny as portrayed in the show is fairly accurate to how someone in his position would act. Those conflicts would be pretty natural.

One cannot clear oneself psychologically. Psychological growth is an endless thing. Just as the contents of mind are endless.

I feel particularly able to validate their portrayal of Danny as a whiteman who pursued eastern ways coming from a wealthy family where my father was a captain of his industry. I haven't seen a more accurate portrayal of how I was at that age.

However, I don't think it would be easy for most people to know these things since most people haven't trained like Danny and come from that background so it is easy to say, wtf.

I just wanted to chime in because his character is accurate.

loving marvel's iron fist so far almost as much as i loved DC's Arrow tv show and even more then i did marvels luke cage tv show unlike marvel's Daredevil tv show which i disliked and i thought daredevil wasn't portrayed like the superhero and i would say mutate he is in comics with superhuman senses and reflexes that he gained from the barrels in the accident he was in as a child andloving marvel's iron fist so far almost as much as i loved DC's Arrow tv show and even more then i did marvels luke cage tv show unlike marvel's Daredevil tv show which i disliked and i thought daredevil wasn't portrayed like the superhero and i would say mutate he is in comics with superhuman senses and reflexes that he gained from the barrels in the accident he was in as a child and while he isn't no mutant he isn't the mere human blind vigilante in the tv show either that they try to potray and in law and order tv series fashion btw lol.

With iron fist he is portrayed as a super hero at least while there is still more they could do and add to portray him as he is in the comic books and should be on a tv show still a good start and alot closer and more true to comics then other recent on screen adaptations of marvel books. Keep in mind we are talking about fantasy and science fiction here it's not meant to be like our real world and that is why the comic books are beloved in first place because people want just that and expect something different from the world they live in and characters and worlds we can only dream of ever becoming, being, or seeing period.

So when bringing marvel or even DC comics to life on screen peruod they should stay true to the comics as best they can both script and casting wise and keep the real word and its politics out of it because when fans watch these shows and movies that are fantasy and science fiction btw that is what they look for and expect to see and don't like their childhood memories and pop culture messed with period do that with new stories and characters not existing ones. All i got to say while they should and can do more to be more true to the comics and i didn't like the daredevil adaptation but with luke cage i saw promise and it started to get better for marvel shows even though still not there but with what they have done starting from the luke cage tv show and onto iron fist tv show now there is alot more hope for future of marvel shows and they surely now look more promising then before.

But at the same time I thought most of them were misguided attempts at trying to bully a show because of political nonsense. I felt bad for the cast because in all honesty they weren't being treated fairly, especially the leading actor. I see a lot of reviews talking about slow plot, etc. But it always comes back to race. Iron Fist is no different than the pace of the first season of Dare-Devil or Luke Cage. In fact, I honestly think Luke Cage was slower because of all the plot setbacks they had for no reason.

I'm not a fan of the Iron Fist comics, this is my first exposure to his character. But one thing I've been reading a lot in the Negative reviews around the internet is "White Savior." In my opinion anyone of any race can become a savior, and being white shouldn't exclude you from that. Also the SJW and other politically motivated internet trolls never took time to consider how they would have responded to an asian lead. They would have claimed that Marvel was stereotyping asians because "Only asians know kung fu, huh?"

I've spoken to many of my asian friends about this and they don't care that Iron Fist is white. He is a fictional character after all. And people talk about "How could this white guy go into a dojo and "whitesplain" the finer points of chi to an asian woman?" In my opinion that question is racist. Because no one could ever explain that to an asian right? The -fictional- character spent every day, from the age of ten years old and on, training with some of the most hardcore teachers of martial arts in the -fictional- world. Of course he might have some advice to offer. In the real world there are plenty of white people who learn Kung Fu. Among them I would even venture to say some become teachers themselves.

Would you say that a white person could never teach an asian martial arts? I hope not because that would be playing into the stereotype that all asians MUST know Kung Fu, or Karate right? (Not to mention Kung Fu and Karate are just the tip of the iceberg for martial arts on planet earth) I knew that the world was pretty dim witted sometimes but I never thought that professional writers could get away with thinking so narrow minded.

The truth is that the world can be a very complex and unpredictable thing. I'm sure there are many white Kung-Fu masters out there, teachers who understand that originally the term Kung Fu referred to a skill or discipline that one worked hard for. I bet most of these people writing about "racial appropriation" don't even know the difference between Kung Fu and Karate. Lastly, to say that a person of another race cannot learn something created by a different race...in my opinion -that- is the injustice. For oppression like that does not belong in the world.

Iron Fist offers a good experience, it's a fun ride. As for my opinion about the negative reviews, you can take it or leave it. I just wanted to explain how I felt after reading them over the past few weeks and if you don't agree with my opinion, I respect that. But when it comes to the show itself, I would suggest you watch it for yourself and determine how -you- feel about it. This is the first one of all the netflix series I could binge watch without thinking to myself "Alright let's hurry up past this part and get to the plot." Don't misunderstand what I mean, I loved all of the other Marvel Netflix shows..but sometimes they just seemed to get too far away from forwarding the plot. Iron Fist didn't have that problem, at least not for me.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let's get into a real and thorough review on Iron Fist, something that businesses like People's Magazine and Rolling Stones Magazine are incapable of producing these days.
Marvel's Iron Fist is the 4th series in the Marvel TV universe, which is produced by Netflix and Marvel Studios and directed by Scott Buck, starring Finn Jones as Iron Fist/Danny Rand and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing. I absolutely adored this show in just about every aspect, and really the only issue I had with it was some scenes in each episode seemed to drag a little bit, but besides that the show was fantastic and is probably the best entry in the Marvel TV universe since Daredevil. This show definitely is the most action packed Marvel show to date, and boy am I glad they saved most of the action for this show before The Defenders. The best part of the show for me was how true it stayed to it's original source material without making it look and feel ridiculous in any way if you get what I mean. The acting was great and the chemistry between Finn Jones's and Jessica Henwick's characters were beautifully executed, to the point where I thought for a split second that these two were really together as a couple in real life and not just in this series. The choreography for the fight scenes were handled very nicely and is some of the best small screen fighting I've ever seen on a television show to date, and the origin story and story in general was handled very nicely. In my honest opinion, I think this show is one of the best things showing on Netflix right now since Daredevil, and these people who call themselves "critics" need to learn how to give us quality reviews again without bringing racial and gender politics into everything because social justice doesn't sell and suede opinions on something most people are interested in and never will, so there is how you write a spoiler-free, non-bias (for the most part), and non-SJW review.

(Quick little side note for any SJW's reading this, a white guy was cast as Iron Fist because the comic book version of Iron Fist is a rich white guy, pick up any Iron Fist comic book and you'll find out really quick, and any of you saying that he should be an Asian because "Iron Fist" and he is a Kung-Fu master are actually the ones who are the real racists because that is a very racist thing to even think, that's called stereotyping)

Considering there are 0 (ZERO) positive critic reviews for the show, it's obvious there is something more going on here than typical criticism. Overall, I'm seeing critics attempting to let everyone know how much they dislike white people doing martial arts. That's bizarre (just look at the critic reviews for Luke Cage, if you want to see EXACTLY what I mean). That's bizarre (just look at the critic reviews for Luke Cage, if you want to see EXACTLY what I mean). It's like the worst thing anyone can do these days is be a white guy, especially in Hollywood. People make claims like "oscars so white" and such, but America is majority white, if the oscars represented America, then more white people would get awards than non-whites! Common sense. But these reviewers seems to be looking for racism or cultural insensitivity. As if no-one knew that the comic book this is based on has existed for over 40 years! Anyways, the show is good (granted, it probably didn't deserve a 10 - a better actor for Rand would've helped but, I'm trying to offset the "PC zombies"), Marvel has been handling all these shows excellently. Hope that Marvel (aka Disney) actually ignores these "critics" and the TV series don't go the politically correct direction of their new comics (which are selling MISERABLY compared to DC). It's truly sad that artists can do an excellent, solid piece of work and its hated by the "mainstream press" because of this PC, thought-policing, culture that's devestating the entertainment industry and education. It's an obvious problem to see by now (and bugged me enough to actually get my lazy-ass to write a review!). Expand

Great show that accurately represents the source material. I'd definitely be considered socially liberal in today's political climate, and I think the bashing this show has received for socioeconomic situation and race of the character are way off base. When the Marvel/Netflix team set out to make these shows they picked the defenders to do one by one followed by a team up show. They stayed true to the source material and delivered each character excellently. Changing Iron fist's race or origin story would have completely ruined the show, just as removing the character and adding a different character to the team only to make the show more PC would have done.

Secondly the pacing of the show is excellent. They did a great job slowly introducing the characters, the origin of iron fist, and the plot. If they threw it all at you during the first few episodes, it would have been ridiculous. Way to many shows and movies these days are all action with no plot and character development, and Iron Fist has plenty of both along with amazing action sequences.

Iron fist and the rest of the Marvel/Netflix shows are exactly what I expect and want out of a comic book adaptation for TV!

Iron Fist ranks as one of the most enjoyable Marvel experiences to date. Let me be clear, the critics have this wrong. First, this is one of the most diverse shows on television today. However, when you look deeper than just the leading man, youIron Fist ranks as one of the most enjoyable Marvel experiences to date. Let me be clear, the critics have this wrong. First, this is one of the most diverse shows on television today. Yes, there was a call to Marvel to cast Danny as an Asian American, and yes, the producers ultimately decided to stay true to the comic book. However, when you look deeper than just the leading man, you realize that the show not only boasts a phenomenal cast of women and minorities, but also a diverse crew from guest directors to art direction to stunts (something that has been fought for in Hollywood for ages and continues to be an issue). Jessica Henwick is amazing as Colleen Wing, portraying a kick ass woman who stands equal to her male counterpart on every level. Wai Ching Ho as Madame Gao has been a fascinating and quietly formidable presence from her first introduction on Daredevil.

What the critics fail to realize is that Danny is one of 67 Iron Fists. If you look at the fantastic comic series created by Brubaker and Fraction, you will find there are 66 other Iron Fists, the majority of whom are of Asian descent. Danny Rand is only an introduction to this world, opening the door to the possibility of seeing a multitude of Iron Fists. Danny’s ethnicity only highlights his status an an outsider among the inhabitants of K’un-Lun (not to mention interracial relationships with Colleen Wing on the show and Misty Knight in the comic).

Much ado was made about Jessica Jones and Luke Cage for the real life issues that the main characters faced. Unfortunately, despite their talented casts, the writers of each show stopped with the underlying issues they were aiming to highlight and did not bother to craft a story. Killgrave (the villain of Jessica Jones) seemed weak and petty, despite his terrifying powers, compared to other Marvel villains, and the plot of Luke Cage moved at a snail’s pace to uninspired conclusions. Critics raved about these shows, praising them for “pushing boundaries” when in reality, the characters both deserved much stronger stories than they were given.

Iron Fist brought a refreshing balance between the action of Daredevil and the plodding introspection of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

It’s unfortunate that critics and fair-weather viewers who most likely never heard of Iron Fist and most certainly never read the comics feel they need to slam the show just for the sake of sparking controversy. Have some patience, let Iron Fist grow, and maybe we’ll get to see the Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay, Wu Ao-Shi, shoot her Chi-laced arrows too.

P.S. Please give Danny an Iron Fist costume!

This show has magical realism a la Dr. Strange, and a Buddhist, hippy, somewhat down-to-earth vibe. It's different. That being said, Iron First is not pretending to be an immensely profound, provocative work of cinema a la Hitchcock, Kubrick or Bunuel. The critics who rate it below a 6 fail to appreciate creative storytelling, dynamic action scenes, and an important, underlying Buddhist philosophy. "If one wants the truth, hold no opinions". These critics need to take a step back and re-evaluate why people watch a show. It's amazing to me how they can fail to appreciate honest entertainment, while drool over contrived, unrealistic banter and storytelling that pretends to be rooted in our universe - such as the cinematic drivel Silver Linings Playbook, Arrival, or August Osage County.

Some fights had lots of cuts, but I can't really complain about it as much as other people, because I could still understand what was happening and enjoy it. When you complain about the lots of cuts you have to first remember that Finn Jones isn't a true martial arts master, and he had very little training, and since he doesn't use a suit yet, many times the cuts are necessary to provide the feel that he knows how to fight. The fights may improve overtime as he gets more trained or, even better, when he get his suit. Either way, I don't really thought the fights were as bad people said it to be. I know there was some irrational SJW implosion over him being white, I guess that's the reason for the poor critical reviews? I'm not sure, but it didn't seem like it was the fault of the show.

I mean, my mom came across it, who just tends to watch a bunch of dramas for the characters and story and doesn't generally watch super hero fare, she's like five episodes ahead of me. When I talk to her I have to remind her not to drop spoilers. Which strongly suggests to me that I'm not unique in really enjoying it, and it having some broader appeal.

This is better than the critics are saying, the fight scenes are awesome and while it's quite slow, I wouldn't go so far as to say it ever gets boring. This is a good set up for the defenders.

Story: Here is where most don't take the time to give it a chance. The story is slow, probably slower than Jessica Jones, which many fans felt was the slowest moving series, BUT it gives so much time to character development and you get time to know about the characters.

The Meachums are the biggest example of this. The story arc of Ward is amazing. At first you see he is an **** then you see why he behaves this way, you get to see his life as the son of Harold, then you see what comes from all of this, sorry for the crappy explanation but i don't want to spoil it. But think of the lines of King Pin from Daredevil Season 1, there is a reason, a cause, that makes him who he is, and we get to see that and be a part of it.

Danny Rand's Journey through out this whole first season to me was organic, it makes sense that hes not "Iron Fist" yet, hes never dealt with the loss of his parents yet. Even after 15 years of training, hes not emotionally matured. The monks are warriors, they teach to fight, not to enlighten (different kind of monks). By the end of the season he has closure and a better understanding of what his purpose might be in the world. He went in as a 10 year old buy, and now he still sorta acts like a 10 year old boy which makes sense since hes never been taught to emotionally deal with his conflicts but by the end he does mature more. If you stick to it through the end you will get a better understanding, again i dont want to spoil anything.

In this new age of low attention span society its no wonder this show gets all the **** it does, people are not even giving story a chance play out, they just want instant gratification. Hell we all know the only reason Game of Thrones can get away with slow story is because in between they show **** and sex.

Bottom line is the story is good, but it takes its sweet time to tell it, hell even at the end its not over, this directly connects to The Defenders "Obvious spoiler alert" it ends on a cliff hanger "duh"

Fighting: Now here is where I find myself sometimes agreeing with the critics and the haters, YES the choreograph is lacking, I mean after seeing the amazing Daredevil season 1 and 2, the fighting here leaves you wanting more.

BUT, and its a huge but, the fighting IS NOT boring, it is executed well, meaning the moves are done right, it does NOT look like a crappy B rated kung fu film. We get to see more flow in the fighting, which makes sense because this is more Chinese wushu and tai chi style of fighting and not brawling or straight "im going to KILL you" fighting. Chinese style martial arts is like a dance, a deadly dance.

And I do agree Finn Jones isnt the best, but hell the dude only had like what was it? 2-3 months to train, for 2-3 months he does DAMN GOOD job. He can only get better, so The Defenders and Season 2 Iron Fist will keep improving.

Please give this show a chance, It really is NOT the crap show every critic out there is panning it out to be.

It's got the bad-ass feel of Luke Cage without the poor editing (LC could have been 6 episodes, the story wasn't very well planned out). Iron Fist made the world feel so much more rich and real, seeing angles and sides of characters that made them far more three-dimension than previously shown. Each of the characters plays integral roles in that pushes and pulls Danny in different directions, fighting against his own feelings, his training, his abuse as a child by the monks, and his destiny. Great acting from almost every single actor/actress on the show as well. This was the best show out of the four hands down and it just goes to show you how bias and much hollywood loves to dogpile and **** on someone / something because they don't understand the source material. White guys can't save the day using martial arts? Understand how racist that sounds. Expand

This is a really solid show with good acting. As a personal fan of some of the comics I initially didn't think Finn Jones would be a good fit for Iron Fist, glad to report that I'm wrong. Watched a few episodes of this so far, and if you like the comic, I believe you will like this. It really is quite good, much better than Jessica Jones. Critics are just too agenda motivated today, and only care about their emotional social justice injections. I'm glad they remained closer to the story and didn't bow to critics, it turned out much better this way.

After watching Iron Fist, I've come to the conclusion that many of the negative reviews for this series are due to the controversy surrounding the casting of Finn Jones as Danny Rand. Moral outrage from critics aside, the show is quite good. A little stiff at times. And the pacing is slow here and there. But Iron Fist is very enjoyable and a welcome addition to Marvel's Netflix lineup. B+

Don't listen to the critics on this one. The story is interesting and moves along at a good pace. At first I hated the fact Finn jones was cast as Danny rand/iron fist, but he does a decent hobby job in the role. The story moves along at a smooth pace like daredevil but doesn't feel long and drawn out like Jessica jones or Luke cage. Looking forward to Defenders later this year. Not as good as the other defenders shows, but still an interesting and different take on the Netflix Marvel shows. Not perfect, with many pacing issues, however, it keeps me wanting to see what happens next (albeit not as much as other marvel properties).

This show is another solid entry in the Marvel netflix universe. Im looking forward to seeing him team up in the Defenders. I liked the story better than Luke Cage, but you need to let it build up to that point. Don't know why people are hating on this show, everybody I know likes it.

I enjoyed this show very much. I honestly don't know it is getting so much negative feedback from critics. Sure, the pacing can be kind of slow at times, but it more than makes up for it with good acting and well choreographed fight scenes. If you enjoyed Daredevil, then you will enjoy this show as well.

Unfortunately, the trouble with Iron Fist doesn’t end once you start actually watching the show, which like its character, is occasionally sweet, frequently maddening, and ultimately kind of lost in Marvel’s New York.
