All that said, it is an entertaining, well photographed, semi-operatic story that has kept us entertained more than a number of other series I could name - for example we find it better than House of Cards post Season one which we found impossibly dark. Try it, hope you enjoy it! Expand

No clue, why this show is getting so much hate. This show reminds me distinctly of the US show Boss but with a European feel. I think what's holding this show back is that even though Marseille is what the protagonist seems to care about the most, the show doesn't let the city shine, it looks pretty but well you could rename the show Paris and i don't think it'd matter.

I wanted to review Marseille series 2.but Metacritic hasn't even heard of it
Marseille series 2 is a BIG disappointment.
Clunky acting. Forces English (Hollywood American) dubbing you can't turn off.
    Tired plot.
It's like watching Thunderbirds only not as exciting!

My friend and I watched Marseille together every two weeks. It is fast-paced. The plot is complex and interesting. The acting is good. The theme song is very intriguing. The critics must be forgetting that regular people like to watch shows that are different and that are in French. Expand

The first half of the show was excellent and set up a lot of interesting plot points. Unfortunately, most of them didn't go anyway. It starts as a good mix of House Of Cards and The Wire, but then it turns into a soap opera. Most of the potential was unfortunately wasted. The finale was a particular mess and it was clear that the creators had no idea how to end the show.

Really hope they go with sub titles for the second series rather than the appallingly bad day-time soap opera dubbing effort in the first series. If not for that, it wasn’t entirely awful.

Taken as a whole, the problem with Marseilles is that not much happens once its main premise is established.

It is royale-y cheesy, proof that the most risible clichés of dark American cable and streaming drama can be exported as easily as fast food.

Marseille, the Gerard Depardieu-led Netflix series that dropped all eight episodes on Thursday, is not very good. In many spots, it's terrible.
