Taken as a whole, the problem with Marseilles is that not much happens once its main premise is established.

Marseille, the Gerard Depardieu-led Netflix series that dropped all eight episodes on Thursday, is not very good. In many spots, it's terrible.

It is royale-y cheesy, proof that the most risible clichés of dark American cable and streaming drama can be exported as easily as fast food.

This show reminds me distinctly of the US show Boss but with a European feel. I think what's holding this show back is that even though Marseille is what the protagonist seems to care about the most, the show doesn't let the city shine, it looks pretty but well you could rename the show Paris and i don't think it'd matter. The acting is solid and the plot is there, and its a solid show if you don't mind the subtitles. Give it a watch. Full Review »

We are withEnglish follows - D'abord quel plaisir pour une francophone de trouver une production Netflix en français - et c'est pas si mal! We are with those who don't understand the negative reviews. Is it wierd to see Gérard Dépardieu huffing and puffing his way through his rôle? yes. And to see a succession of female characters who are mainly known for their sex appeal? definitely. All that said, it is an entertaining, well photographed, semi-operatic story that has kept us entertained more than a number of other series I could name - for example we find it better than House of Cards post Season one which we found impossibly dark. Try it, hope you enjoy it! Full Review »
