NOTE: This is strictly a review of only “LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS” Season 3... This is probably the weakest batch of episodes but I still enjoyed most of them. I ranked all the episodes from best to worst.

Jibaro: Made by Alberto Mielgo, the same person behind “The Witness,” (the AMAZING short from the first volume of LD+R). While this story is a bit more simplistic than "The Witness," it still delivers in sheer spectacle. The enchantress moved in a very unsettling fashion that made her very uncomfortable to watch. All the cinematography was stunning with the fast shutter speeds and was what made me realize that it was made by the same creative mind as “The Witness.” I REALLY hope we get more shorts from Alberto Mielgo.

Bad Travelling: This one is made by David Fincher, and that fact is completely reflected in the quality of this short! With excellent animation and interesting world building, this short stands as one of the best!

Night of the Mini Dead: This one is GREAT! A short, snappy and funny 7 minute speedrun of a zombie apocalypse movie.

Three Robots: Exit Strategies: The gang from the first volume of LD+R is back in the sequel that (I think) everyone wanted! I love the accuracy of how certain "factions" behaved towards each other during an apocalyptic. This one was humorous and had a powerful message.

Swarm: Alien bee’s and wasps… What more do you need? With some of the best animation in this batch of shorts, this adaptation of a 1980’s book takes you on a disturbing trip about scientists researching something they think can benefit them with shocking twists and turns.

Mason’s Rats: I don't have a lot to say about this one. The animation is kinda fun and it had a nice message at the end.

Kill Team Kill: If this wasn't as funny as it was, it might have been the worst one. It pulled a lot of tropes from 80's movies and the animation was cool but that's about it.

In Vaulted Halls Entombed: The only way I can describe this one is... Try hard? It just feels like a CoD game with an H.P. Lovecraftian boss at the end (Was that supposed to be THE Cthulhu at the end, or just something similar). This one just looked like a tech demo for a PS5 game…

The Very Pulse of the Machine: This one just didn't do it for me... It's based off of a short story but it was a tad too long for me. Nothing about it really stood out to me: The animation wasn’t anything special and it just felt like it was going through the motions

I'm a fan of the first season and when I knew that supervising director of the next season would be an Asian woman I began to worry but I couldn't imagine how terrible her work would be. She completely destroyed vibe of the series and ruined the future of the series. At first season we had a lot of different witty stories with not repeatable animation styles. Each episode has its personality, its own message. Now we have 2 times a smaller number of episodes. Two of them are almost the same (when robot pursuit a human), the animation style of the half of the episodes is the similar - typical cgi-graphics, and finally the plot or its absence if to be more precise. It's very weak and shallow work and huge spit in the face to everybody who loves the first season. None of 8 new episodes do not deserve your attention. Big disappointment. Expand

Think Heavy Metal, Liquid Television or The Animatrix. That sounds like a cool idea, but not all the shorts are very good. Some are animated in that hyper-realistic video game cutscene Robert Zemeckis style, which I really don’t understand. What’s the point of it being animated if you’re going to make it look as realistic as possible? Why not just make it live-action? A lot of these shorts are pretty much just big long action scenes, nothing really too original or interesting. There’s also the mature content, which goes too far sometimes. Some of these shorts would play out exactly the same if you took out the sex, gore and swearing, it just isn’t always necessary and comes off as try-hard and childish. However, with all that said, some of these shorts are absolutely beautiful with breathtaking animation, creative concepts and inspired imagery. This is stuff I love in animated shorts, and Love, Death and Robots definitely delivers on that, just not all the time. If you like animated short anthologies all done in different styles and genres, LDR is worth a watch. It’s not that great as a whole, but it has some really great stuff in it. Expand

A fantastic premise! Even though a lot of the stories aren’t great, the whole thing still was a great experience (which is why my overall rating isn’t just an average). My individual ratings and thoughts of the episodes are as follows:

Three Robots (6/10) - Funny and charming slice-of-life-ish story about three robot friends in a post-apocalyptic world
Beyond the Aquila Rift (7/10) - Interesting Sci-Fi horror-ish story with a somewhat predictable twist
Ice Age (4/10) - Fantasy-ish story that has an interesting idea / thought experiment, but the story’s not so great. Also, the actors reactions don’t make much sense.
Sonnie’s Edge (8/10) - Really nice battle action sci-fi story with some blood n gore and a really nice twist in the end. Favorite one so far.
When the yoghurt took over (5/10) - Funny thought experiment, but nothing that special
The secret war (6/10) - Bloody, gory mystery action story with russian soldiers in Siberia during WW2 as protagonists. No big twist here, but the atmosphere and execution of the episode is pretty nice. Also, the CGI looks amazing.
Sucker of souls (6/10) - Nice 2D drawn animation and another bloody, gory mystery action, this time almost in an Indiana Jones fashion. End could have been better though.
The witness (4/10) - kind of an uninspired crime sci-fi plot with a predictable twist and some weird fetish stuff
Suits (6/10) - Starship Troopers x Mecha x cowboy farmer setting. Straight-forward sci-fi action plot. Wasn’t bad.
Good hunting (6/10) - Kinda weird but unique setting which goes from fairy tale fantasy to steam punk robot sci-fi quick. Still, kinds nicely done. Another 2D drawn animation with some really nice movement animation!
The dump (7/10) - Fun mystery horror action story with a western groove. Pretty enjoyable one.
Shape-Shifters (5/10) - Another mystery action one in a war/soldier setting. Story is nothing special, but execution ain’t bad.
Fish night (3/10) - Exactly what the name says. Fantasy/mystery and not sci-fi at all. Pretty meh plot with a completely open end. The worst one so far.
Helping hand (6/10) - A sci-fi space story! And it actually respects basic physics! A nice short one.
Alternate histories (3/10) - While the idea isn’t bad, the fictional historic scenarios are highly unlikely, pretty bad and don’t have any meaning - neither morally nor in historic sense. Also, it got excessive sex and violence in it, which only adds to the immature tone and further reduces any charme of the episode.
Lucky 13 (6/10) - Really well animated scifi action story. The plot is not great, but the execution was good and the episode never felt boring.
Blindspot (7/10) - Pretty cool action story with a blood-pumping soundtrack and a charmy art-style. Pretty enjoyable one!
Zima Blue (6/10) - Weird, but somehow cool, philosophical story with an unique art-style.

The quality though is all over the place in every imaginable way. I don't think there was a single episode that actually manages to be good at everything, but a few had very little going for them.

As a whole it's very average. The Episodes are also in a random order on Netflix apparently if you just try to binge-watch them.

For instance... the episode "Sonnie's Edge" feels like a defining example of everything good and bad about this series. Some great stylized 3D animation but then the writing is just incomprehensibly dumb and has literal Twitter-Tier "Checking off Boxes" ontop of that. The more I think about it the more it falls apart. It's such letdown for a rarely (if ever) explored setting.

As is customary in other series, the episodes do not follow each other. Yes, it really is. In this, Love, Death & Robots is original or at least for me, because I have never experienced such a series. It has its charm and it works perfectly. You liked an episode, so great. Some again? Does not matter. The next one will be about something else. I liked almost a few of them, and each had its own charm. It is useless to bite the plot, because I would have to bite every episode. In addition to the story, I also praise the visual processing, which is wonderful. A great series for me, which in my opinion is worth a try. You have those 18 episodes right now. I may have done it in a day, but it's up to you. Maybe the first episode will discourage you, but maybe you will like it and you will want to see the next one and you may not like the next one or on the contrary you will survive the first one and you will like the next one. The recommendation is difficult here, because each episode, as I mentioned, is about something different. Whether or not this serial recommends remains a mystery. Try one episode and judge for yourself. Expand

As this season brings back the thoughtfulness and imagination of the first season. However, it still falls well short of the brilliance of Season One (1).

Some episodes sadly undermine their brilliance by employing bathos for comic relief. I do not understand why that is increasingly popular and I personally do not appreciate the reasoning behind it, because not every thought requires comic relief. Things can and should be heavy when they need to be.

I think the best episodes include: Bad Travelling and Mason's Rats. I can't figure out why Jibaro wasn't animated and was instead live-action - to me that decision was a let down. All-in-All, this was definitely an improved season with strong creative pieces and it was certainly more enjoyable than its previous season.
