After beating around the bush for the entirety of the second season, this one finally sheds some light on the one unavoidable issue which was left largely unexplained for so long. The others. For that alone I should score this one higher than the last one. One new character introduced in this season was woven into the main plot pretty decently, same as Desmond was who first appeared in S 2. The story deviated somewhat from the main characters introduced in the first act, and that was a mistake IMO. But I think the writers felt a genuine need to broaden the story. In all fairness this is no longer strictly a story about those few characters from the start anymore, but a saga where characters come and go when they've completed their purpose. Only Locke seems to know what he wants from his life. Full Review »

After a slow start in which the plot seemed to be moving forward at a snail’s pace season three gradually picked up towards its finale. SomeAfter a slow start in which the plot seemed to be moving forward at a snail’s pace season three gradually picked up towards its finale. Some of the more pressing questions asked in previous seasons were answered but the show continued to raise new ones that did not always seem to have relevance to the main mystery of the island.

Watching the show on again on DVD it is certainly easier to keep up complex plot than when watched week to week on TV but it often still comes across like the writers where making some elements as they went along. Having said all that this third season is still compulsive viewing and the twist at the end of the final episode was truly inspired.
