It might seem a bit superficial on surface but it's actually pretty intense. A must watch for this season.

Mainly because I found it to be an extremely rigid drama. Completely limited by the social parameters the story was exploring. None of the characters have any substantial development because they're all prototypes of an exact way of being, because they're like pawns that can't afford to break out of that mold. Needless to say, the plot grants them little to do. Little Fires Everywhere builds a story over the course of 8 episodes that is basically a boiling pot, and the only thing you have to wait for is when it explodes. The path it takes is so conventional and unsurprising that neither Reese Witherspoon nor Kerry Washington can alter the predictability of its course. Expand

This show was a frustrating watch. Great performances for the most part but characters often behaved in a somewhat outlandish and dramatic manner to justify the story. I also found the ending ‘twist’ laughable and really undermined the series.

She made odd faces while trying to appear...something. Rosemarie Dewitt is great as usual and the supporting kids were strong too. Only watch this in the background while you are doing something else. Oh and the soundtrack was super cliche. Expand

A TV show or a movie has a bigger right - to make sure that if they decide to adapt a book that discusses serious topics such as family, motherhood, race and wants to be taken seriously - is delivering justice to such topics.
Celeste Ng was a one book wonder for me. She did a complete injustice to her audience with 'Little Fires Everywhere' and Hulu did all those that didn't read the book a bigger injustice by shoving this drivel down our throats.
The book/tv show is about 'Mia Warren' an African American who didn't;t have the luxuries that Elena Richardson did growing up White and rich. She thinks that this gives her a right to demean others and think she is superior to everyone and has special rights such as abduction and encouraging other less fortunate to to think they too can 'do whatever they want' just because they don't have money. This book was stereotypical beyond belief. The author knows nothing about race and how an African American really lives or sees the world. Just because she is an immigrant does not give her the perspective she needs to write books of this nature and then sell it as facts and not drivel. She failed her readers spectacularly and Hulu failed their audience.

Reese Witherspoon departs only slightly from her neurotic, controlling mom in HBO's Big Little Lies. She has the almost "perfect" family, but there are the inevitable cracks. Meanwhile, a mysterious artist moves to town with her daughter and all their belongings in a beat-up Chevette. Many issues arise when the families interact with an especially persuasive examination of racism and class in its subtle forms. There are lots of dramatic encounters and scandalous revelations that sometimes make it feel like an upscale soap opera. Washington is a standout, but the most effective aspect of this series is the potent performances by every member of the cast, including the teens. This show is sometimes slightly sensational with juicy surprises, but overall, it's somewhat provocative, well-crafted and highly entertaining Expand

I don't know what Reese Witherspoon found about this 2017 book. The story just doesn't work for me and everything seems too cliché to me. Reese Witherspoon plays a character who just pisses me off.

The series' first episodes are especially captivating until one notices the tiresome formula that plagues each episode's mood. That, coupled with the troubling justifications of characters' decisions that take centre stage towards the second half of the series, make the series' development especially painful to watch. Nonetheless, Reese Witherspoon does her best to deliver an interesting character; not the same can be said for Kerry Washington's monotonous portrayals. Expand

I'm just learning this mini-series was inspired by a book. I'm actually happy to be in a position to leave a review not tainted by the expectations from a previous read. I'm not sure how some critics do that and stay relevant to the people reading their bias reviews. This series is really good. All of the acting is perfect for the various plots running through these episodes. Kerry sometimes comes off as a bit much, but I honestly think this is her authentic personality - acting wise. Reese Witherspoon is a long time favorite of mine so I was surprised to feel so tired of her character toward the last 4 episodes. Her acting is so on point in LFE that I started to believe she really is the disconnected, self-centered, narcissistic perfectionist she wants viewers to believe she is. Normally I resent shows that play too hard on the race card. However, I kept watching despite some of the misunderstanding between Elena & Mia feeling contrived and forced. As the story unfolds the writers do a good job of keeping us reeled in to what transformed into straight, heartbreaking, drama. All of it was believable unfortunately because people really do spend too much of their energy thinking about race. From that mindset we have Mia's unwarranted suspicion of this white family. To the point where she becomes a maid to watch over her daughter. Okay, got it. But it gets really good when we learn how Mia got pregnant & where this fits in the story with baby Ming Lee. We get to see an excellent depiction of the horrible handling of a family court case. This is nothing new in America, but what shocked me was the verdict. In most cases, the best interest of a child is with the mother so we provide any resources we feel can help to make sure this stays the case. As one would expect, this verdict set off a bomb that would explode in places we didn't expect. Overall this is a very good series, believable and has some of the best teen actors out there in it. Of course Izzy is an incredible character with more depth than her shallow mother can stand. Families are mostly dysfunctional & as Mia said on the stand "we all struggle, it's just that money can cover it up making wealthier people appear more stable." No truer statement could have been made. I recommend this series if for no other reason than to remind us that we have work to do - and there is nothing worst than treating others as an extension of yourself. Our kids are not us, our neighbors are not us, not everyone want to or can be exactly who we want them to be - and when we realize this truth, it's not a good idea to judge harshly or put your head up your #ss like Elena, or risk having your home burnt down to the ground with you in it. Good acting but a somewhat manipulative plot, with a nasty edge aimed at some characters. Was troubling to see how some terrible character decisions were justified based on class divides. I watched it till the end, but it left a bad taste.

Witherspoon saves an otherwise whiner festival. The story gets some savage, interesting moments; yet, mostly in relation to the always good Washington, there's too much gooders.

Predictable series and at times a rather hard slog.
Witherspoon plays an extension of her character of Big Little Lies while Kerry Washington seems to be going through the motions.
Okay but could of been better.
