I've gotta say that this season of Legion is really not as good as I remember. Whilst this weirdness may have been an intentional choice, I think shows like Twin Peaks demonstrate that you can make odd, off-kilter choices without necessarily sacrificing the plot. The ending remains as good as I remember it though, and the Farouk-David fight is such a creative way to show a telepathy battle. I just wish they had toned down some of the metaphorical elements as they just felt like they purposely prolonged the season without a good enough pay off. Expand

After season 1, the most surreal thing here is not the content of the season, but the fact that it was made in the first place. At a time in history where most things are rushed, this series goes about fleshing out something that is entirely unnecesary.

Plus the narration visit s some ideas and theories inspired by psychologists' research. This makes this series very special and original, but also brings a faulty pacing issue, which is due to the fact that a lot of the things are illusions or just ideas that are irrelevant to the main plot and just slow down the overall development of the plot. Otherwise it is the most intriguing and in some weird way interactive TV series, with an entertaining twists and characters. The nature of the mind boggling events made it even more fun to watch, which ultimately led to the whole series being unique, with great acting amazing directing, and super originality in every single term.
Overall it is a very good TV series that has a big pacing issue, and for general audience most of the time too complex chronology and reality illusion balance.

An UFO in the vast world of TV shows. The second season remains very interesting especially in the way of the criticism of the USA foreign policy : when the Shadow King tells Legion that his father had no real reason to come into his country and judge his actions... and years later "the enemy is now the hero, and the hero is the enemy". Can't wait for season 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really loved season 1, and season 2 was of the same quality. There is a narrator this season and the season is divided in chapters. I think the season exploit the notion of what is an enemy ? What does it take to make one ? Is good and bad just a question of perspective. The season is interesting in that sens. The filming is quite amazing. They exploit a lot of cinema tricks and whistles. I really love the dancing part as it was totally unexpected. But they went a bit too complex in the end with their flashback. And some of the crazy parts were just for effects and that did badder me. I think season one was more balanced that way. I give it a 78%. Great show. Expand

There are entire episodes of filler and sections devoted to purely waxing poetic about philosophy and delusion, but it never adds to anything meaningful. The writing and pacing never picks up until the finale, and by then it rushes into a set up for season 3. The show obviously wants to try something different, but the execution is a pretentious mess. Its baffling how there are more character moments in the shorter season 1 than there are in the bloated 11 episodes here.

Season 1 was a great, focused and off kilter superhero tale with interesting characters. Season 2 has none of that. The acting remains solid, but apart from David, no one has an arc of any sort. Shock value is also at the forefront of season 2, with some #metoo influences. You'll know it when you see it.

I will say this, the finale is interesting in how it leaves its characters, but it feels out of place. The entire lead up to it is a murky, plodding mess that meanders.

This remains one of the most visually creative shows ever made. The showrunner really upped his game, and I'm amazed by some of the stuff that comes out of his head. This season even has a creature that rivals the Shadow King.

However, all the attempts at cleverness bog the show down. The plot is stretched out and several parts questionable. There are a couple stand-alone episodes that are straight-up digressions, don't further the plot, try too hard to smart, and just weren't that entertaining. I've heard the showrunner say Legion has a lot of moral ambiguity to it. Again, I think he was trying too hard to be smart, not to mention edgy. There are several dark and sometimes nasty plot points in this. Some of them pay off spectacularly, but others come off as one-dimensional and didn't justify their uncomfortableness. They do things with both David and Syd that makes it hard to route for them. On the plus side, the progression of David's character and various plot points really came together in the end.

The cast remains great. Dan Stevens really nails it as David. Although she has less screen time this season, Aubrey Plaza still does a great job. (She SHOULD have gotten an Emmy nomination last year.) Newcomer Navid Negahban should also be given credit for playing a low-key but extremely dangerous villain. Quite a unique character and performance. Unfortunately, so much time is spent is on David that the other characters are underutilized, or in the case of Jean Smart's Dr. Melanie Bird, now a junkie slowly losing it and whose character seems only to react to the actions of her husband, misused.

If you liked the first season, you'd still probably want to see this for the visuals if nothing else. But be forewarned for how dark things get.

Excellent season. High on mystery and surrealism. Couple of things happened that were really surprising and didn't make much sense from the Legion universe we have been exposed to, but overall, very thrilling. The final episode was really good too. Can't wait for the next season. 9/10

Trippy and psychedelic, Legion is back with a bang. The second season emphasizes more on the conflicting superhero side of David, while mixing the madness with philosophy lessons. The concept seems odd on paper, but hey... this is Legion. Odd is a great and bold move for the brand. In fact, the odd factor is amped up, making it a compelling second season to watch.

This season demonstrates the limitations of surrealism in art. It is difficult to care about what any characters say or do, since there is little to nothing shown that is meaningful. In any other genre this would be called "riddled with plot holes", or "inconsistent story telling". Legion season 2 is the television equivalent of someone telling you about the fascinating dream they had last night. Other peoples' dreams are seldom fascinating and rarely contain a deeper message except of course in this case where we learn that you should always storyboard an actual plot outline before you make an eleven episode serial narrative. If you are into philosophical scepticism I would suggest watching any Youtube video about simulation theory instead of this half-baked nonsense. Inventive cinematography and dedicated acting. I refuse to be bored for most of a season in the hopes of something happening so I've lowered my score to 4. Most likely won't be tuning in to the next season of more the same. *end update* It's pretty, and minblowing, but it hasn't made for a great TV show this first episode. Intereseting to watch, sure. But there's got to be a coherent story involved or else it's simply art, not theater. Hope it coalesces, as Legion was one of my favorite shows last year. Collapse

It really manages to maintain that same feel of season one, great well shot scenes, plots that confuse you in a good way and really focusing on story more than just show everyone that it's a superhero movie. Maybe the introduction of new characters could really improve this season,

Legion is the most brazenly inventive series on TV. ... The genre mash-ups that result are often as weird as they are striking, and they delight as art objects even when they do little to advance the story. (I consider it a compliment to the show to say that it doesn’t care all that much about plot; others will not agree.) ... The frustrations and indulgences are all of a piece. This is someone else’s dream. You get to watch it, question it, and sometimes dance to it.

There's still a tenuous connection to a sense-making plot (but only realistically if you watched Season 1). ... And yes, that gives me comfort only in the sense that what viewers will see in the opening episodes is such a perversely wonderful hallucinogenic experience--dance numbers, shape-shifting, the creepy sound of frozen people and their chattering teeth, explorations of color, astral plane hijinks and multiple WTF moments--that there's comfort in knowing it's not all just cinematic showboating, a Pollock/Rothko virtual reality with no meaning.

Legion presents itself as a maze, but it's more accurately an imaginatively adorned straight line in season two. The series performs an effective illusion: It can be uncanny, but it's rarely truly impenetrable. The flamboyant peculiarity of David's world convinces us that we're seeing something for the first time.
