There aren’t enough shows on network television right now that are as aspirational as this one is, and Hale’s magnetic performance as Katy will keep you watching.

Lucy Hale makes an unusually appealing [fairy tale princess]. ... Less about finding Prince Charming than it is about making your artistic dreams come true without losing your soul, Katy Keene is a fairy tale fit for a new decade.

In all, “Katy Keene” represents a pleasant instance of the CW getting the balance exactly right for a comforting, engaging watch, keeping what works on “Riverdale” and ditching the murder. One hopes it stays that way.

Katy Keene is far from drama-filled (or reality-filled), the type of show unlikely to make an Emmy nomination list. But you could do worse for weeknight escapist fodder than tuning in to the weekly travails of Katy and her friends.

Charming yet slight . ... Every other character is just too practically perfect in every way, hardscrabbling occasional setbacks with bright-eyed radiance because friendship conquers all.

The CW's "musical comedy-drama" feels depth-averse as its characters float around New York like stylishly dressed pappi in the wind. ... But thankfully there are exceptions.

Katy Keene lasciviously rolls around in every threadbare cliché of showbiz melodrama and then some.

They need a strong villain to play off of, though, and generically mean rich girl Alexandra Cabot (Camille Hyde) doesn’t quite cut it. I found myself wishing for more screentime for The Other Two‘s Heléne York, who plays Katy’s bitchy coworker Amanda. She’s sharp enough to provide a worthy foil for Katy, at least… but in the world of Katy Keene, it seems, any and all sharp edges have been rounded off to a safe dullness.

Katy Keene is one of my top 5 favorite new shows of 2020 and one of my favorite shows of all time. This show is a nice change of directionKaty Keene is one of my top 5 favorite new shows of 2020 and one of my favorite shows of all time. This show is a nice change of direction compared to the other Archie Comics shows Riverdale and Chilling Adventures with Sabrina but I still think it is the weakest of the 3 so far. The acting was excellent especically from Jonny Beauchamp, Ashleigh Murray, Lucy Hale, Katherine LaNasa, Luke Cook, Bernadette Peters, Zane Holtz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Julia Chan. The costumes were phenomenal and beautiful especially on Lucy Hale, Jonny Beauchamp, Katherine LaNasa, and all of the costumes created by characters Katy Keene and Guy LaMontagne. The makeup and hairstyling was outstanding especially on Johny Beauchamp, Ashleigh Murray, and Lucy Hale. The music was great too, I really liked the musical numbers. This was a pretty great first season. Full Review »

It's hilarious that they got an Egyptian actor who doesn't look remotely Indian (Abubakr Ali) to play an Indian character (Raj Patel). It's hilarious that they got an Egyptian actor who doesn't look remotely Indian (Abubakr Ali) to play an Indian character (Raj Patel). Couldn't they just have made his character Egyptian instead of Indian? Nonetheless, this is an entertaining show. Full Review »
