On his new special he proves himself an admirable comedian, walking the line of being funny and incisive. Psychosexual is a refreshingly good time and a testament to Kim Booster’s talent.

Booster retains his command of the stage and the audience throughout. ... You will laugh, even if you’re not gay or Asian.

Frank and funny. ... Some of the routines mine territory that’s been done to death by stand-ups, as when Booster talks about the difference between cats and dogs, or people using phones in public bathroom stalls. Other jokes feel like works in progress. But Booster shines when he interacts with the audience.

There are stretches of Joel Kim Booster’s Netflix special Psychosexual where the magnets wobble a little — bits where the effort of doing stand-up feels mostly in service of a metatextual point Booster is trying to make. Fairly often, though, the magnets hold. In those moments, Psychosexual feels buoyant and alive.
