I think my initial hesitation on watching this show was 1. the title 2.CW, which has put out some good shows over the years, but nothing recently that is going to pique this 50 something year old's interest. Nice surprise

This is a must watch! Beutifully written show with funny narator and satiric view of all those telenovelas we watched when we were kids. Charming characters, interesting plot, just wonderful!!!

What makes Jane The Virgin so fun and entertaining to watch is how meta this show is. The narrator knows that this show has a ridiculous Spanish soap opera (or commonly called as telenovela) concept of a pregnant virgin and it makes fun of the telenovela cliches and that ends up being so charming and funny.

While the narrator is charming as ever, the main star of the show Gina Rodriguez is the highlight as the titular character. Her performance elevated Jane’s character so much that she ends up being Jane Gloriana Villanueva to my eyes, not Gina Rodriguez.

The characters in Jane’s life are fun to watch especially with Jane’s family members. The dynamic that Jane has with her family is so refreshing and adorable.

As for the arc plot goes, the arcs are obviously taken straight from a telenovela but it’s not bothersome because the show already knows these situations were ridiculous and that’s what makes it so entertaining and intriguing to watch.

Jane The Virgin had a spectacular first season with its meta setting, Gina Rodriguez’s performance and screen presence as the titular character, adorable fun characters and ridiculous yet entertaining plot arcs.

Annoyingly addictive to watch. Jane is indecisive and irritating at times, but a great actress nonetheless. Rogelio is definitely the star of the show and is the person who keeps this show entertaining and funny. In a very meager fall season, Jane the Virgin is the best new show on TV this season. I find myself laughing out loud at least a couple of times every episode, and the casting is exquisite. Three cheers for this show.

"Jane the Virgin" is a breath of fresh air...It's charming and intelligent, fun and witty. That's why it deserves our respect and admiration. It deserves our admiration because it's good--if not, great.

One must need a zero IQ to enjoy this show. The acting is acceptable, but the story is just dumb.

I cannot believe the CW cancelled Star Crossed and put this junk on instead.

Yes, I did watch it , boring teens getting pregnant by a doctor impregnate her with someone's else's baby making material, just repulsed me...

There is little to like about it except for the narrator and Jane's hilarious father whom I think deserved the Golden Globe win or nomination more than the show nor Gina Rodriguez (no offence to this year's Best Actress in A Comedy winner but I would not have pegged her to rob many veteran actresses in her category with her performance which was not exactly anything to shout about). The show is an hour long and there are more than twenty episodes in a season thereby meaning that there would bound to be many filler episodes where the plot or an arc would be going nowhere. It didn't take long for that to happen. Three episodes in and I'm already wishing that it was only a half hour show like most comedies are.Sure there are some dramatic elements to it too but when we strip everything down, this is a comedy that exists solely on over-exaggeration, not only in terms of the acting but in terms of its various plots and subplots. I don't even recall its most commonly compared to show "Ugly Betty" (RIP) being that bad or trying way too hard. I can't for the life of me imagine this show seeing an expiration date beyond two seasons at most. Its Golden Globe win and unfathomable rave reviews from critics has probably rescued it from near death as it was already being warned about getting the axe in its early weeks. There are many great comedies that have not survived a season let alone a couple episodes but this one surprisingly has. I have quit watching it to save myself an hour that I could probably use to actually sit down and better focus on doing my nails or something which I find myself doing one time too many while having the show on in front of me. I'll also need to remind myself not to trust any new hip show that the critics are raving so much about. Expand

I think it's a greta show, I couldn't stop watching it but I have to admit tat her confusion between the guys was pretty annoying. She was always confused between the two guys and it was makaing the story boring.

What makes “Jane the Virgin” work is that, while the situations the characters end up in are absurd, the characters always react like actual human beings. It actually makes you believe that things so surreal can really be overcome so naturally. The series is very well balanced between the "impossible" and the "well, it could happen." It's amazing.

It’s not self-serious, but it is serious--about being more entertaining, more emotional, more garish, and more gonzo than so much on television.
