    Julia Garner plays Anna Delvey, who took New York society and the financial world for thousands of dollars as a purported German heiress. Anna Chlumsky plays the journalist who's determined to write a story investigating the reality behind the image. Each episode is primarily framed around one person's experiences, but the other plots weave in and out. Each episode is primarily framed around one person's experiences, but the other plots weave in and out. This series was created by Shonda Rhimes based on the original New York Magazine article, so you'd expect more steamy and sensational…but no, this is more reportage. The first episode spends most of the time setting up the journalist's journey with almost none of Delvey's fun. The subsequent episodes revolve more around Delvey and her incredibly decadent lifestyle (with some great fashions). Garner has transformed herself into this enigmatic character, who's both charming and diabolical. As the tale unfolds, the outrageous developments keep it interesting. On the down side, the narrative rambles slowly at times, esp. the final episode which was downright frustrating. This is more about the incredible character and the way she maintained her lifestyle than  an involving personal drama involving any of the characters.… Expand

    Why did I watch all of it¿ Maybe Garner. Maybe low investment while washing dishes. Maybe a "hate watch" that was milked over way too many episodes. The real Anna is so dissimilar too Garner's portrayal. It's not a good idea to Google the real story while watching. Cheesy acting at times, it is somewhat juvenile and annoying far too often.

    I really tried to engage in this series because the content was so interesting and I love Julia Garner but the writing is so bad that the actors, however accomplished they are, cannot save this series.
    I hope Lena Dunham comes through with a better version because the story is fascinating. I do have to say I loved the Nef character and the actor playing her was amazing.     this one starts off somewhat watchable if you're needing that kind of downshift brain time, but by the end it is unwatchable so I suggest watching first 3-5 episodes and then skipping to the finale

    Typical Netflix series bloat disappointments aside, “Inventing Anna” is a pretty engrossing ride largely due to Chlumsky’s relatability and Garner’s bonkers accent.

    “Inventing Anna” isn’t a tough watch. The actors do a lot to compensate for what’s missing. But it’s overly devoted to the Vivian part of the story. If anything, I found myself wishing Alexis Floyd’s Neff could somehow spin off her own series, right in the middle of this one.
