Quibbles aside there's no denying that Inside Man is engaging television, and having seen further episodes beyond the series opener, that doesn't let up. In fact, as things progress and the story becomes more clearly defined, it's very much to the series' benefit. Episode 2 feels like a step up and is well worth sticking around for, even if you're unconvinced by the first.

Inside Man is typical Moffat fare. Rollickingly confident, meaty, funny, clever (if not quite as clever, on a line by line basis, as it appears).

Inside Man’s central scenario is unsatisfyingly confected. ... With likeable performances and quippy characters, Inside Man is a weeknight crowd pleaser. Just don’t expect the moral depth, or proficient plotting, of some of its rivals in the emergent “men making mistake after mistake” genre.

This arch meditation on human beings' capacity to kill is audacious, clever and at times frustrating because things are often too daft even for knockabout noir. However, it's worth it if only for the beautifully contained performance of Stanley Tucci as the charismatic "death row detective" Jefferson Grieff.

The strands are convoluted and little appears to make much sense – there is rather a lot of trust required of the viewer that master TV showrunner Moffat will pull the whole thing off. Thanks to wonderful performances from its four main players, and particularly to Tucci at last back in a creepy, sinister role after a long stretch of playing loveable characters (and stretching pasta in Italian farmhouses), it is watchable enough for me to commit to the next three episodes to find out if he can.

It’s all patently ridiculous. If it were ridiculous in an entertaining way, that would be one thing. But Tennant’s side of the story is just so insane that you’ll be too distracted by it to be entertained by Tucci’s side.

Aside from a handful of strong performances this series is absolutely ludicrous and so preposterous that it makes it almost unwatchable.

Couldn’t even get through the first two episodes, writing is terrible, characters unlikeable and the plot is moronic. BBC prove yet againCouldn’t even get through the first two episodes, writing is terrible, characters unlikeable and the plot is moronic. BBC prove yet again that they are the worst broadcaster for any form of dramatised entertainment. Seen as they desperately try to hold an entire nation to ransom to pay for their service they could at least try and spend some of their millions on decent writers and production crews. Time to put their money where their mouth is and make their service optional for anyone wanting to watch live tv. Then we’d see who actually wants to pay for this drivel. Full Review »

David Tennant's performance was amazing but his character was so stupid that it ruined the whole show.
