In the heat of the night is an old television series about a police station in the south during the 1980s. My favorite part is the chemistry between Gillespie and Tibbs.

They all have to adapt and hate each other at first but as they come together to solve crimes and spend more time with each other it gets so much better as they all begin to garner immense love and respect for one another as they all turn into a big family who protect the people of Sparta Mississippi. The racist aspect is great at first but just becomes very annoying and you can tell it's forced in the later episodes of the show. There isn't much reason for the racist element after the first couple of seasons its just there for the heck of it being there.. Other than that the characters are very memorable and likable. If you like Carrol O Connor then I think you would really enjoy this show. He did a great job. The tragedy of the cast in real life should be made into a legit documentary if u ask me. While they were making the show the men playing cops were getting drug charges and were in and ouf of jail. Carrol O Connors son Hugh killed himself right after the show ended. They did a great job with this show. Expand
