Now the author, the filmmakers and most importantly the victims of the Golden State Killer get the epilogue they deserve. ... We see home video footage of Michelle playing softball, and hear her talking about the case, either in her own voice, or with actress Amy Ryan reading from Michelle’s writings. Equally compelling are the interviews with survivors of the Golden State Killer’s attacks, and the clips of DeAngelo in court. Read full review

Although the connection between the two storylines in this I’ll Be Gone In The Dark special is tenuous, both pay tribute to McNamara’s legacy in different ways. First is the conclusion of the Golden State Killer case to which she devoted the last years of her life, and which might not have been solved if she hadn’t brought renewed attention to it. Second is bringing a new injustice to light, with faith that there are more people like Michelle out there who will take up the burden of correcting it. Read full review

While it is good to see some of the victims we met in the series get a small portion of comfort from the sentencing of the Golden State Killer, the disconnect between McNamara's obsession and real police work is glaring. Her widower says, "She got him." This is not the case.
