This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The beginning of the dragon dance. King Viserys has died and what we've been waiting for all season begins. The episode is made in the best traditions of the old Game of Thrones. Intrigues, murders and betrayals. Everything is as we like. Expand

I don't understand how you manage to completely misread your own characters like that. The writer of this episode resorted to harmful and insulting stereotypes and caused future headaches by writing its ending as they did.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The cinematography and production design continues to be incredible; however, story wise this was very clearly the weakest episode in the series. Rhaenys showing up and killing a hundred innocent people during Aegon II’s coronation and then choosing to not burn the green council is a major plot oversight. If she was written more intelligently, she would end the dance of the dragons war right then and there and burn the primary culprits to death. Obviously the show runners couldn’t kill the green council here as they don’t die at this point in Fire & Blood, so why include the scene then? It’s an example of spectacle over substance.

Also, the inclusion of Larys’ foot fetish feels like the most Game of Thrones thing the show could do with a character. Take a character from the source material, give them an unnecessary kink that they didn’t have in the book and milk it just to shove it down the audiences throat about how much of a villain this guy is. It’s the Ramsay Bolton effect.

The acting is still great. The set pieces are still gorgeous. It’s honestly just the story that is the weak link here. I still like House of the Dragon, but this episode is definitely a misfire. Hopefully it’s a minor blip in the overall run of the series as opposed to being the beginning of some creative cracks that are starting to form (ala Game of Thrones Season 5)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The beginning of the end, in a number of ways. The show has finally become the cringe that we suspected it would with numerous nonsensical additions, like Larys's foot fetishism, people being killed with trackballs to the face instead of defenestration, throat slitting or wasting, Helaena's warning which was actually warning of nothing, Otto for some reason wanting to kill Aegon even though his ambition is obviously for an easily-controlled king (i.e. not Aemond), dragons being able to break through several stories of solid rock, and Rhaenys escaping on dragonback without using it to immediately end the war right after being told, "nah muh lady they'll be looking for you at your dragon." That last part was sure as hell handwaved quickly enough. The writing is now firmly into dumb GoT seasons 6-8 territory, it's just lacking quite as many ninjas which I assume we'll get next episode. A slightly quieter episode showing the nuances of Alicent's character. The last scene is a bit silly but I can forgive it to the creators if it doesn't happen again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This series exceeded all my expectations. It is the best. Rather, in relation to what I prefer about Game of Thrones, the CGI should be improved a little because in some scenes there are errors. Either in terms of story, script, application, music, and costumes. Literally, even Game of Thrones cannot appreciate this quality. Expand
