-
Expertly weaving in archival footage, dramatic re-creations, interviews with esteemed journalists and historians and audio recordings from the Nuremberg Trials (many of which have only recently been made public), Berlinger paints a stunningly effective portrait of Hitler’s rise to power, the mass murders and other horrors committed by the Third Reich.
-
While Hitler And The Nazis: Evil On Trial may not provide a ton of new information for people who have even casually studied the time period before, during and after WWII, Berlinger still does a good job of making a powerful case that the conditions that gave us the horrific atrocities that Hitler and the Nazis committed can very easily happen again.
-
The presentation of the trials is the most striking example of a visual style Berlinger employs throughout the series: sliding smoothly back and forth between elaborately staged recreations and real colorized footage, so that you need to pay attention to know whether you are looking at Hermann Goering or the actor playing Hermann Goering (Gabor Sotonyi). Berlinger is going for a seamless dramatic effect, and if it doesn’t always work as drama, it holds your attention. .... The unspoken case they build is comprehensive.
