I remain impressed by the sleight of hand it managed to get away with, gesturing toward the big and conceptual while slipping in something cozy and real.
-
The show has maintained its likeability and goofy comedic tone after four seasons, and it’s impressive just how many levels it manages to operate on.
-
In addition to some of the stars of the original “High School Musical,” this year’s farewell brings back characters from three previous seasons. Much of the show’s fun is seeing how they work their way in.
-
For all the chaos of the dozens upon dozens of cast members we’re meant to keep up with, it’s enjoyable nonetheless. Of the main characters we were introduced to in Season 1, there isn’t a bad apple among them. The strength of the (platonic!) relationships that have soldiered on since day one is what keeps audiences coming back.

In the first six episodes screened for reviewers, there are only two songs that showcase what HSMTMTS does best: present original HSM numbers in a new context. So let’s hope we get a few more in the final two episodes, giving the emotional and spirited farewell these characters deserve.

Overall, Season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series doesn’t start off on quite the right note, but finds its footing in the second half as it remembers what makes the series so quirky and heartfelt, to begin with.
-
While the final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is not as fresh and invigorating as the original episodes, the show still maintained its unique format as a tongue-and-cheek mockumentary about teens.
