It his the story of the Hellsing organization. They were an order of protestant knights created by Abraham van Hellsing (Yes that guy from Dracula) who defended Britain from supernatural treats. It is lead by Integra Hellsing who is tough, incorruptible and a true leader that does not shy away from harsh decisions. Her secret weapon is the vampire Alucard (Yes, that name is a spoiler). He is basically an unstoppable force, has dark humor and is loyal to Integra alone. He has also no problems with slaying his enemies in bloody ways and is entertained by challenges / enjoyable battles. He has some secrets and perfect manners as seen when he meets the Queen and is a true sweetheart gentleman;-). There is the former cop Seras Victoria. Her team got wiped out because her commanding officer send them into an operation where he should have requested the Hellsing organization instead. She was the last survivor and did not falter. Was asked by Alucard if she wants do die or continue, becomes a vampire and struggles with it. While far weaker than Alucard she is still a strong vampire and her determination and willpower make her a valuable member. Then we have Walter the butler and former elite Hellsing knight. Might be old but is still deadly and a paragon of manners. Then we have the antagonists with Iskariot. They are the catholic equivalent of Hellsing loyal only to the Vatican. A bunch of religious fanatics that are clouded by their religion or how they will say save the world from monsters and heretics. There is Paladin Alexander Andersen their elite fighter and a force to be recognized. His boss is Enrico Maxwell. He is the kind you love to hate. A schemer and cold blooded antagonist many see as Machiavelli's best student in this age. I cant spoil the mayor antagonist here but they are truly evil, powerful, enjoy cruelty and violence. They are the right combination of being awesome entertaining evil monsters and bad guys you enjoy seeing die. There are other characters I wont talk about. For everyone there are great arcs and you will see character developments. The motives are believable and there are good twists. The action is overwhelmingly good and maybe too bloody for some. Neither Alucard nor the villains will hold back and for the later once civil causalities are an enjoyable bonus. There are memorable battles that will win you easily over. The story overall has good twist and a view surprises. The animations were excellent for its time and hold up still today especially the later episodes. The soundtrack is fitting and enhances the atmosphere. Overall this was a fascinating experience. Maybe a bit to violent and bloody for some. I enjoyed the characters and development. In combination with (dark) humor and enjoyable action it is a solid recommendation. Bonus: There is another adaptation of Hellsing that I have not found here on Metacritic from 2001. Because the manga was not finished they had to make their own stories after the first episodes. It is still good has an awesome final and delivers the atmosphere while doing justice to the characters and franchise. Expand
