Gay love stories aren't new anymore, but this latest from Netflix came with 52 million fans from the graphic novel that inspired it. The trajectory of 2 school boys falling for each other plays out in the typical plot: Out gay nerd (newcomerGay love stories aren't new anymore, but this latest from Netflix came with 52 million fans from the graphic novel that inspired it. The trajectory of 2 school boys falling for each other plays out in the typical plot: Out gay nerd (newcomer Joe Locke) befriends the school jock (Kit Connor, who played the young Elton John in Rocketman). Of course their friendship grows into something more, but not before the typical coming out and bullying issues. There are also 2 side stories about a lesbian couple, plus a trans girl and her best straight friend. What makes this film so appealing is the indisputably sweet approach to the characters and the fact that these actors look their age, which isn't often the case. The approach is so fresh and innocent, that sex never enters the conversation (which I found a bit unrealistic for teen boys). Since this is an adaption some of the hard edges have been softened and animated emojis punctuate special moments. Overall, it's an appealing and amiable entry into the romcom field. This show is so wholesome, LGBTQ kids could watch it with their parents without too much embarrassment. It is also very heartwarming. It was a very innocent and refreshing show with real teenagers instead of 30 year old people trying to play a 15 year old. It was very pure and showed what real love should be like and shows the struggles of coming out.

This is one of the most well adapted TV shows I have seen in a while. This truly expresses Alice's original story well and is well performed. I have sobbed tears or sadness and joy for so much of this show. I cannot recommend it and the books enough.

De lo que más me gusta de Heartstopper son las referencias psicológicas que tiene y la forma tan sana y positiva que tienen de contarlo. Literalmente han pulido cada detalle para que la serie no tenga nada malo. Han unido la naturalidad de los actores con unos diálogos impecables
La estructuración y la cohesión que tiene la historia. En cada capítulo se ve una parte. Y la evolución y madurez de los personajes en cada capítulo va transmitiendo muchísimo y hace que ames a los personajes cada vez más
Otro punto que me ha encantado de la serie es que haya 0 contenido sexual. Por fin! Estábamos hartos de series con muchas connotaciones sexuales donde no se veía representada la gente. Se agradece muchísimo ver una historia de amor real, puro, sano y con 0 toxicidad. GRACIAS.

Mención destacable la NATURALIDAD y el CURRAZO de los actores, sin haber hecho papeles previos. Es increíble la capacidad de interpretación tan grande que tienen, son super humanos y tienen un carisma alucinante que se palpa muchísimo en el espectador.

Un must en toda regla que deberían ponerlo en todos los institutos del mundo. La escritora es una GENIA plasmando tanto los problemas de los adolescentes como haciendo una serie con un contenido LGTB+ tan bien narradas.
Moraleja de la serie: todavía sigue existiendo el verdadero amor y quienes lo buscan. Y todavía queda gente buena en el mundo que está dispuesta a ser correspondida, aunque sea difícil encontrarlo. Hay que luchar por ello y al final aparecerá, como la historia entre Charlie y Nick… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a queer person, Heartstopper was the first time I ever felt seen or represented by film or television.

Heartstopper is a wholesome story about a budding love between two boys in highschool, and Alice Oseman perfectly captured the queer experience of youth in the modern day - from the butterflies of falling for your first crushes, the pain of finding out your first love was not meant for you, to the Depression and Anxiety that comes with harboring an identity that is largely unaccepted in society, and how the mental illness you garner from traumatic experiences negatively impacts your perspective of yourself and your relationships with others.

The series has fittingly queer music that melds well with every moment of the show. The artistry of using hand drawn animation hearkens back to the graphic novels, and highlight the passion the people working on this series have for the story of the comics, and it amplifies the series' wholesomeness.

Heartstopper finally gives us a wholesome queer experience that also manages to deal well with the complexities of existing outside of the heternormative sphere of larger society. It will make you cry, cheer, angry, laugh and feel more hopeful about the future of queer entertainment.… Expand

This coming-of-age teen rom-com is unflinchingly heartwarming. It's an inclusive story that softly pulls at heartstrings. Centred around queer love, it's sweet and cheesy, but not in an eye-rolling manner.

It's also nice to see it move away from the serious and explicit tone of other recent teen series like Sex Education and Euphoria.

The second season amps up the story, and more subplots are introduced (without being overwhelming), this helps fleshes out the supporting characters. The second season also aptly infuses darker moments in between the light-hearted and cheesy ones, making it more nuanced, relatable and mature.

It does present the ongoing LGBT issue in such non-intrusive way (the show is mainly about the LGBT, thus those who are homophobic, just don't watch it...). I loved the way actors portrayed their characters, especially Joe (Charlie) and Kit (Nick). The show avoids unneccesary drama and the characters usually behave relatively rationaly (SPOILER: for example when Nick heard Charlie and Tao talk about him in the bowling alley's restrooms). Thus one gets to enjoy the beatiful story with briliant performances. Thank you for this show!… Expand

Perfect. This is an example of a good adaptation. The story is beautiful, the cast have so much chemestry, it's so simple, so soft, and still so good.
