In being this relatable and affecting, Heartstopper cements its place as one of the year’s best TV shows. Hell, not even an unfairly brief cameo from Jonathan Bailey can detract from its many merits.
-
So, it’s business as usual, but rather more besides. Heartstopper seems determined to grow up.
-
Heartstopper continues to revel in the small moments in relationships as well as the big ones, and seeing all of this romantic stability onscreen makes us feel good, which is the show’s objective.
-
The loveliness of Heartstopper is in imagining that this is what teenage life could have been like. For those who can relate directly to the teenagers on their screen, what a treat.

Heartstopper season 3 is, in some ways, more of the same. But to the credit of Oseman and the cast, these latest episodes do feel like an evolution of the concept as the cutesy drama wades into deeper waters with its discussions of eating disorders and early sexual experiences.

So, big things do happen in this chapter of the story, rendered with such lively warmth and chemistry by Locke and Connor. But Heartstopper’s third season also does a fair bit of wheel-spinning. Its eight episodes flit by on their way to a finale that leaves a question mark hanging in the air.
