Beyond the mayhem, Harley Quinn's Valentine's Day special is packed to the brim with references that any superfan of classic rom-coms will appreciate. ... As Harley and Ivy fall in love with each other all over again, this special will remind you why you fell in love with this show, too.
-
This Valentine’s Day special is unexpectedly sweet in all the right places. It doesn’t shy away from how much Harley and Ivy care about each other, It’s fast, funny, and frantically horny. And if you’re a fan of Harley Quinn as a series, there’s plenty to love here, too.
-
Like the couple at its heart, it is confidently horny, sex-positive and finds humor at the edges of jauntily disturbing propositions.
-
Yet for all the characters who get shot, decapitated, stabbed, crushed or threatened by the aforementioned giant dong, there are also some real emotions in there. Well, most of those are confined to the Harley/Ivy A-story, but the special manages to find sympathy even for the absurd, hammy Clayface and the self-doubting and socially awkward Bane.
-
The hits and misses cluster together. A string of jokes will stick the landing (anything with Clayface in it), then slide into limp cameos and bits that go long, not deep. ... Still, the ratio trends positive, and A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special brings enough of the funny to justify a watch.
