It has chills and humor and the ability to take a procedural story and twist it.
-
The show shrewdly offers more than a monster of the week, with some absorbing subplots that continue from week to week.
-
It's dark, disturbing and a little downbeat--which isn't a dis at all.
-
Grimm has real promise if NBC has real patience.
-
Some of the jokes work, and some of the frights are actually scary, and on a repeat viewing the craftsmanship and attention to detail made more of an impression.
-
It can be genuinely scary (the pilot has a "Lovely Bones" vibe that's not for children). But it has wit too, and avoids camp.
-
The byplay among the main characters is appealing, and the premise is solid and easy to grasp. The show does overplay its dread notes tonight, but there are also a few promising moments when Grimm shows a surprisingly subtle and even amusing touch.
