After six seasons of wonderful scripts and well-developed characters.
The seasons 7 and 8 arrived, which is the worst thing that happened to the fans.
The writers of these last two seasons deserve a DRACARYS.

The directors cut, with them talking about their perspective actually tells a lot about the misplaced priorities. They speak at length about using the 'ground perspective' while shooting the episode 'Bells'. Really!! Does the perspective matter if your entire plotline has gone down the tube?

The downhill trend continues. A sad season to end the largest tv series ever produced. No amount of fantastic acting or effects could cover for a distinct drop in the show's writing, which leaves the impression that Benioff and Weiss no longer have the will to maintain the show's quality in a final mad sprint to the finish line.

If their efforts on that front are anything like Season 8 GoT, they shouldn't be anywhere near that franchise either. But Disney is into ignoring fans and putting out hot garbage on a tight schedule that will make the most money for the least effort and talent spent, so these writers should fit right in.

George Martin claimed the ending would be "bittersweet"but right now it just seems straight bitter with no sweetness at all. Thrown out theGeorge Martin claimed the ending would be "bittersweet"but right now it just seems straight bitter with no sweetness at all. All of the character growth and internal struggles of the past seems to have been thrown away in favor of basically genetic predestination with Jaime and Daenerys. The touted threat of the White Walkers ends with a whimper. All those prophecies? Thrown out the window with no payoff. There is "subverting expectations" and there is just tearing things down for the sake of it to jerk with the audience.

Nor does the supposedly leaked ending bring any comfort or sense of closure. Game of Thrones was based on the War of the Roses, and that ultimately only ended with someone taking the throne that had links to both of the major sides. Similarly, I do not see any ending with a Stark on the throne as giving closure because such a choice would be unacceptable to the other 7 Kingdoms, who would rightly suspect any such ruler of favoritism towards the North. The Targaryens were able to weld the petty kingdoms into one through being outsiders and through the actions of their dragons. Any Stark on the throne would face what the Lannisters would also have faced, namely an endless sequence of rebellions or even secession. That rules out Sansa. It is not believable that they would follow Bran, because he has no charisma or talent for ruling, and his mystic mumbo-jumbo would not be believed by most people. Finally there would again be the suspicion that he would be a puppet of Sansa or show favoritism even if he claims otherwise. Any Stark on the throne will be seen as a base of power centered on Winterfell and that would be unacceptable to the surviving lords of the 7 Kingdoms.

Jon in terms of bloodline would offer the right mix of Targaryen and Stark, but let's face it, he's a horrible leader. He might have charisma and be a good fighter, but his political and command decisions are just awful. He is another Ned Stark in that his inflexibility and personal moral code ends up costing everyone.

The original hints of a dual monarchy with Jon & Daenerys thematically would complete the Song of Ice and Fire. While modern viewers might feel uncomfortable with the idea of incest, they have handled even closer incest between Jaime and Cersei. Jon and Daenerys would temper each other's faults. A blasted devastated kingdom after defeating the White Walkers but with the promise of rebuilding. A true "Dream of Spring"

Right now all we seem to be having is a blasted wasteland, the main characters mad, dead, or going into exile, and a kingdom on the cusp of tearing itself apart again.

Martin has used the example of Aragorn from LoTR and how Aragorn's rule would have had consequences for all. Sure, explore those consequences, and sure have some nuances to Aragorn. But doing a 180 and turning Aragorn into a new tyrant is not some deep "subverting expectations" move. Such moves are simply for shock value and trolling and sadly it seems that is what GoT has turned into.

Ironically George Martin, having written for TV before, was aware of and feared bad quality endings to TV series. Sadly that is precisely what he is getting.

Dany has lost her 2 dragons, of which one dragon was very recently killed by Cersei’s navy, she lost her dothraki army, she lost her lover, jorah, missandei was killed in front of her, and she couldn’t do anything about it, even after all these, she was betrayed by varys, jon, tyrion, she became possessive about her claim to the iron throne, her dream, her everything was under danger for her.
Not to forget about the hatred she received from sansa, even after she had fought in the Great War, her under appreciation, she couldn’t get any love in the seven kingdoms.
She was already short-tempered, and after all that anger and all that rage, she couldn’t control it, and lost control over her feelings, and she destroyed everything.
Everything was perfectly plotted in the episode.
Writers can’t make Arya look bad, because if she had killed cersei, then she would have to kill Cersei’s unborn child also, and that would have made Arya look cruel

About Jaime leaving Brianne for cersei,
Jaime loved both of them, but loved cersei more, so he had to make lies to make both Brianne and tyrion hate him, so that it would have been easier for them to forget Jaime.

Season 8 is a disaster, I was a fan of GOT until season 8, because it ruins all the work of the last 7 years, big incoherence, choice of the easy scenario, and a season incredibly but really incredibly rush, there is a gap between the S8 and the rest!

The most relevant question that ardent GOT fans need to ask is whether season 8 is terrible because of the writing ... or because the popular fan-theories stewing over the 2-year wait has not come to pass.

For many years, people have watched and re-watched season 1 to date, studying every character, every conversation, and every moment down to the smallest detail. As at the end of season 7; season 8 was bound on a highly predictable trajectory. Enter season 8, and the audience is left with quite the opposite. What has always remained a constant throughout the lifespan of the show is that "you either die the hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" (vice-versa).

Perhaps the main reason for the mixed emotions of Season 8 is that we see some of the most beloved characters turn into villains. Still, the complex and layered dialogue between characters is sorely missing in this final season of GOT. Instead, the audience is left to draw insight into characters motives and intention by gauging their facial expressions and body language against mesmerising and beautiful settings.

One can't help but sympathise with the show-runners in drawing this detail-orientated and truly epic show to close in the space of 6 episodes alone (despite their extended lengths). It is indeed difficult to bid farewell to any long-running show - but GOT - is perhaps the most difficult to part ways with in recent years. The mortality of the characters that we have all grown to love and hate over 8 seasons is what makes GOT one of the kind. Season 8 neither needs saving nor (dare I say) shall ruin the entire series beyond repair. It shall remain the greatest television show in history for years to come.

It took 5 episodes to confirm my fear of how bad D&D and HBO writers/vision are. Episode 2 and 4 are fillers that doesn't serve much to the story, with 3 being the most ridiculous one of killing off the biggest threat of the series with a totally unrelated character arc. Not even that interested in the finale anymore when all they'd rather do are fan services and crap writing. It was a good 8 years, whilst the last 2 seasons being mediocre, this finale has been horrendous. It's all spectacle and plot twists just for the sake of plot twists. This is not what GOT was. The cast performance are amazing though--sad it's all just a bad script.

Edit: Yes, I created an account just to post this because I'm thoroughly disappointed at how the biggest final season of my favorite series that I've followed since 2012 has been such a letdown. Never trust strangers to take care of your baby. Look at Star Wars after Lucas sold... same case here with HBO's Game of Thrones. R. I. P.

Season 8 episode 3 worst episode in game of Thrones ever... i loved the idea that arya killed the NK, but the way she did it was just **** it was too simple for NK who everyone was scared of, this episode was great but, there were many mistakes in this episode, like how the hell did Sam survive? How did Ghost survive? And no one died in the crypts, they could have atleast killed Gilly, jon should have atleast had a sword fight with NK and then NK should have raised the dead, and after thanking Theon Bran should have turned towards warewood tree to position NK for arya and when NK is choking arya Bran should have warged in NK and unwarg just before arya stabs NK, that would have been Perfect. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just saw the 5th episode, when the complete and utter indifference and/or self-deception of the creators revealed itself, and in the ugliest possible way. I can't say incompetence because they showed what they are capable of in the first 4 seasons.

Anyone with half a brain knew that the odds this season would be great were slim, after the steep decline in quality that was season 7 (after the slight decline of 5 and 6). But I decided to watch for the actors (I've grown attached to them!) and for the spectacle, and try to ignore everything else. And I was sorta able to do that over the first 4 episodes. But in this one it was impossible to overlook. This is a completely different show, with absolutely no essential relation in spirit or sensibility to that of previous seasons. Not a single character we strongly expected to live on in this episode died, and a whole bunch of tertiary ones did. However, several of the characters that died were long-running and those we were attached to, but the way the deaths were handled was such that it had no effect on me other than disgust (at the creators). Suddenly the Hound is a crazed madman whose only concern in killing his already dead brother? So much so that he'd commit suicide to do so? This bears no relation to the cynical, survival-over-everything Hound that we've known so long. Jamie and the Ship King Guy get in a fight to the death for no prescient reason. Arya survives for no apparent logical reason. On and on the list could go.

D&D's approach here is obviously one in which visuals trump everything - bereft of reason or depth, they just want to set up the "coolest" looking shots, and go to whatever lengths are necessary to get them. And that is all they are concerned with. They showed this a little in season 7 when they had the dragon go north of the wall for no reason, but this season it takes over the entire show. Not a single character has emerged unscathed by this twisted lust for mindless spectacle.

Finally I want to say a word to those who accuse those such as myself who get mad when creators piss all over their creations of "entitlement". That is the stupidest argument, and reveals a complete lack of understand of art and the essential nature of the relationship between an artist and his or her audience. A film-maker is merely a modern version of the story-teller who would tell tales around the fire. Just like today, many times there would be a person or few persons whose main role in the clan would be to create and/or memorize and pass on stories. That was their job. And if they started telling an intricately detailed, engrossing story, and you spent many hours listening to it, then all of a sudden towards the end started **** all over what they created, and obviously put no thought or effort into putting together a coherent or satisfying ending, and just stopped, the natural reaction is to be pissed. Why? Because at the most basic of levels it's rude. A storyteller is a kind of host, but of your mind rather than your body. And D&D have been some god-awfully rude hosts this season, with not the slightest consideration for the experience of their guests.

And beyond that, it's someone not doing their job. If I hire someone to fix my plumbing, but it breaks the next day because they didn't do their job right, everyone would admit that anger is a natural reaction. But somehow a different standard is somehow applied to artists. And I think this reveals the philistinism of those individuals, that at the end of the day they don't hold art in much esteem at all. They are the same sort of folks that insist that who makes the art - what color, gender, ethnicity and so on - matters crucially. Which again, makes no sense. If I buy a chair, do I care what the identity of the person who made it is? No, I care that the chair works, that it doesn't break when I sit on it, that it is comfortable, ect. It is only when I do not care about the chair - for whatever reason - that other things become pre-eminently important. And these identity critics - like those who attack anyone who dares have standards and basic expectations of care and/or competence in art - could care less if all the museums and theaters burned to the ground - as long as their pet ideologies are given their due, or they get their "fix" of emotional manipulation (respectively).

The first two seasons make it hopeful for the viewer that the story will be finished satisfyingly, even though you can filll so much plot into just 4 more episodes. But those are lies.
