    This season isn't bad; but compared to the past seasons, in terms of writing, pacing, and focus, season 5 just doesn't come close. Furthermore, although the threat of sexual violence has always been present in GoT, it's use here is simply for shock value, which, on top of last season's controversial scene, Dany in season 1, countless other examples and predominantly female nudity, is theThis season isn't bad; but compared to the past seasons, in terms of writing, pacing, and focus, season 5 just doesn't come close.     The show is still going strong, and several characters meeting who haven't met before has shaken things up. The production values remain as superlative as ever, including the new Dornish lands.

    The Dornish, though, are this season's weak point. There just isn't enough time for them to make an impact, and when the Sand Snakes are finally put to the test, they were embarrassingly campy. Every time one of them speaks, Oberyn rolls over in his grave. I haven't read the books, but I hope they die or get shipped off somewhere sometime soon.

    The stronger performers though, the ones whose characters are still alive, are still knocking it out of the park, and the show has finally begun to emphasize its religious element through the compelling High Sparrow character. There are still enough existing characters that there just isn't enough time for all of them. I guess the show needs another massacre, but that's the GoT way. It'll be worth watching when it comes.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 5 of Game of Thrones has been the "cliff-hanger" of all time. However, I am not pleased with Sansa Stark getting raped. She needed to be the one protected through all this. It made my blood boil. While I am watching these episodes, nothing else matters. House cold burn down around me as long as I get to watch Game of Thrones. It has been way too long for a show to come along that captivates like this one does, Hard to wait for the next episode.     Seriously love this show. HUGE disappointment for those that have read all the books (which I have), as many, many major plot lines have been changed, characters died that should not have, marriages made that should not have been and they skipped entire sequences I thought Integral for for world development.

    Still highly recommended, just don't expect that the creators of the show will follow the great stories contained in the books. It's a shame, for if they did, I feel it would have made the show even better. I'm pretty sure they are already planning to go it on their own if they reach the point of this 6th book and it's still not written.

    For anyone who read the books, the series has become almost intolerable to watch. It is one thing to cut down on material to fit production constraints but when you completely butcher a beautiful storyline, substitute it with some nonsense you made up and somehow manage to find time for meaningless sex scenes, it is not OK. I am beyond amazed that the author approves this idiocy.

    Season 5 is the most boring to date (thru episode 5, and there's only 8 episodes?). They're rehashing the same storylines, and it's obvious the season is just a stalling season.

    This show is AMAZING! It must've been incredibly difficult for Weiss and Benioff to keep all the characters interesting due to their brand new storylines, for example Brienne and Jaime. However, after 4 episodes it's quite clear to see season 5 means business from The Wall to Dorne with everything now really beginning to kick off. Even characters who's stories I thought were getting a bitThis show is AMAZING! My only complaint might be that there's not enough Tyrion, because I need the Dinklage! But that is easily coated over with great intrigue on what will happen next with everything from King's Landing to Meereen and even Winterfell (also the fact that there is no Bran and very little Theon makes this season a plus too!) This season has the makings to surpass the last four, although in my mind it will have to take something big to beat season 4. There is no doubt though that Game of Thrones still is the most exciting show on TV, WELL DONE HBO!… Expand

    The fifth season has slowed things down a bit. At least as far as these first three episodes are concerned. Things aren't happening at the rapid fire pace of the last seasons. Plotlines have been stretched out for quite a few episodes, which can lead to this season feeling like it's kind of dragging things out.

    However none of that changes the fact that the writing is still fantastic. Even in it's slowest moments Game of Thrones is still compelling. The fleshed out characters, immaculate bits of dialog, and growth of the world with new characters and factions keep the show on top. It's also still not afraid to kill off some characters.

    These first three episodes have established it as the slowest season thus far, but the shear high-quality of it means that it's not a bad thing. Game of Thrones is still mesmerizing even in it's slower moments and the promise of big things to come in the later episodes keeps me invested. It's one of, if not the, best shows out there right now. As always it's an absolute must watch.

    Season 5 is, just like the previous ones, outstanding. The show profits more than ever from its huge budget , which makes GoT a visual spectacle - no other TV series comes close! The intelligent dialogue along with the twists and turns within the plot will keep you interested for every single minute of every single episode.

    "I like this guy. Oh he is dead. NOO" almost in every season some good character dies and it is why you should watch it, also can you read a book. A lot of story lines and characters + amazing decorations and graphics = one of the best tf shows ever

    You know the drill by now. This show never grows or develops. Scene after scene of people talking **** about other people intercut with violence and boobs. Is it entertaining? Yes. Stop pretending that it's a top tier show though because it isn't.

    One of the worst shows is even worse. Creators done the impossible and overcome terrible last season. Perfect spitting originals. Be the warning terrible actor, screenplay and direction.

    I think the highlight of the episode was Daenerys, The Mother Of Dragons trembled at the sight of what her "kids" had turned into, Monsters seems like a suitable word as any. Emilia Clarke plays both a powerful and at the same time innocent character quite nicely, And Daenerys is a strong candidate to take the iron throne.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I guess I am tilting at windmills here, but I will try to explain why I think that Game of Thrones is not that perfect, especially in regard to the beginning of the fifth season.

    First things first, GoT is an exceptional experience. When you think that "the journey is the reward", then you will be (and possibly are) very happy with Game of Thrones. The action is very good, the sceneries are of a high quality, dragons are cool, the fights are well done, there are many characters to love and to hate.

    One thing that is missing and which is of high importance in a TV show is focus. Every TV show has to be focused on one or two aspects that lead the audience. If there is none, it may have big consequences. Take for example "House of Cards": From the beginning on, the audience is asking itself "What will happen to Frank Underwood? Will he reach his goals? For what cost?". Questions are these are posed by the TV show in order to give actions meaning. Without these questions we would not know whether the appearance of a new candidate is a good or bad thing. It would be just "something that happened". GoT is lacking such a question. In the first season, it was "Eddard Stark is the good guy, he is our guidance in evaluating the story, whether it is good or bad". Then he was beheaded and to be honest, that was a perfect moment: The show showed us that the questions we make up in our minds can be completely changed from one scene to another. Chaos is a very good thing in a world in which we are used to order. Even the Red Wedding was such a moment. However, after four seasons, it's just chaos without order. Is it good that Stannis wants to fight with the Wildlings? Is it good that Tyrion may team up with Khaleesi? Especially the last question will be answered by many with "Yes" - because everybody loves those two. However, is it right that the only indicator for evaluating those actions is our sympathy for the characters? At the latest from season 4, we learnt that it's just chaos. There is no endgame in it.

    Imagine the show ends with Khaleesi on the throne, her enemies defeated, the Lannisters dead. Khaleesi swears she will protect the poor, everything is fine. Is it really the end? It may be the end of the show, but definitely not of the whole story, of the universe of GoT. We would just know that there is somebody else out there wanting the throne, attacking her eventually. We will get an incomplete story. And that is because focus is missing.

    We could argue whether this is really important in a TV show. Whether a show really has to be defined by its red thread, by giving every scene a meaning in the endgame. I think it is important and Game of Thrones lost it during the third and fourth episode by providing chaos and no order.

    The first episode of the fifth season was a very weak one (for GoT standards!). It is unfortunate that the creators have to use the first episode of every season to remind everybody where every character is and what happened in the last seasons, especially with only 10 episodes á 45 minutes.

    Still, I have the feeling that now, after four seasons, the writers are heading towards the endgame. First alliances are made, a lot of different interest are tied together to only a few. Maybe at the end of the season we will be in for a big, all-encompassing fight. If the show succeeds in giving every past action (Robb Stark's dead for example) a meaning in the endgame, I will be impressed and very happy.

    Very good start (as usual a bit slow) of the fifth season that is the turning point for the most of the series characters. Direction, writing, acting and music are on very high level as usual. I must say that I waited too long for this excelent show to begin, it's a pure pleasure to watch this sublime show!

    What should i say, of course, it is Game of Thrones, so there were no chance it would be boring.
    I am absolutely surprised how good the first episode was.
    The Tempo is pretty slow so far, but GoT Fans shouldnt have a Problem with this.

Coming off of an exceptional season 4, I had very high expectations for season 5, and I am glad to say that GOT once again exceeded my expectations. The stories for the introduced characters are going in directions that have me more intrigued than ever. If you are not a fan of GOT or haven't caught up yet, please do so becauseGame of Thrones once again delivers on its season 5 premier. Coming off of an exceptional season 4, I had very high expectations for season 5, and I am glad to say that GOT once again exceeded my expectations. The stories for the introduced characters are going in directions that have me more intrigued than ever. If you are not a fan of GOT or haven't caught up yet, please do so because this show is an instant classic that shouldn't be missed!… Expand

    It's not easy adapting sprawling fantasy books into a TV series, but HBO has done it beautifully with "Game of Thrones." It's consistently been the most entertaining show on television for four seasons, and now that the showrunners are breaking new stories, I can't wait to see where it goes next.

    Love that game of thrones is back packed with action, plots and schemes. All the characters feels right in this new season and as always the script and scenery of this show is amazing. Just love it.

    What a debut for a once again amazing new season. It picks up where it left us on season 4, and it was a joy seeing the characters after a long and boring wait. For fans, no need to talk much because they know what's waiting for them, and they definitely won't be disappointed. And Daenerys Targaryen, I love you.

Now in the fifth (is it) season, GoT's writing and plotting are as good as ever. Episode one of Season six was a tad busy in up-dating us on all of the more important story threads, but I thought it did an excellent job of keeping things straight.While "Game of Thrones" sometimes seems to be unrelenting sex and violence, one has to admit that it is sex and violence done extremely well. Now in the fifth (is it) season, GoT's writing and plotting are as good as ever. Episode one of Season six was a tad busy in up-dating us on all of the more important story threads, but I thought it did an excellent job of keeping things straight. I enjoyed the show so much that I did not erase it from my DVR, anticipating watching it again later this week.… Expand

    Everything that was always good about Game of Thrones is still good. The ensemble cast remains one of TV's richest, from top to bottom, and even actors who seemed weak in the past (like Sophie Turner, who plays increasingly embittered Sansa Stark) continue to rise to the level of much better material.
