They make knowing references to Back to the Future, and the Terminator films. It's more comedy than drama so keep that in mind. Several of the episodes are really memorable: the end of episode 6 is incredibly "mind blowing", yes there's a pun there. Episode 7 is over-the-top celebrity worship of James Cameron, but in a humorous way, that one episode is worth everything. There's a few episodes that feature the raw intensity of "Wolf" in the 80s and those are great too. The season finale pretty much ties the storyline up but leaves a foot-in-the-door for a next season if that happens. Finally, this is definitely an R-rated series mainly for sexual references and content but it's not that way in every episode, maybe a third or so of the 13 eps. Expand

Took a couple eps to get going, but the three main characters really grew on me and the second half of the season is hilarious. Great mix of comedy and sci-fi.

Its a fun little time travel romp, if one dont take it to seriously its a great time.
Likely hard to motivate such a high grade using facts and logics but what it all comes down to is after all did I have a good time watching it, and yes i certainly did.

It's crude, immature and full of dated references. It's definitely not for everyone but for many it'll be a fun trip from start to finish. Switch off your brain and enjoy the ride.

The writing shows brilliance here and there, but there are also scenes/gags that you absolutely know Seth Rogen wrote. Surprisingly, the development of Wolf as a character is the best thing Future Man does.

Just got done binge watching the entire show and loved it. Lots of gags and yeah a bit of low brow humor but the show does not take itself too seriously and neither should you. There was a couple of slower moments but as a whole I enjoyed the first season and laughed harder than I have in a long time while watching anything else on Hulu.

It's a fun show with a little bit of gross out humor, over the top violence at times, and no the whole logic of the time traveling is hardly understandable which the characters in the show admit to all the time.

An excellent overall effort that was highly enjoyable. Wolf is by far my favorite. I'm a fan of Future Man and I will be hoping for a second season.

Pretty darn funny. It's a great cast of characters with sometimes over the top antics that together come together for a great parody of sci-fi and action movies.

I found the show a welcome change to the run of the mill rubbish that is pumped out. Yes the humour is out there, but if you get the jokes and the constant references made in the show along with the crazy lines and plot without taking everything so seriously then you will binge watch Future Man.

Cant wait for season 2 loved every minute of it and didn't want it to end.

I really dislike Hulu for all sorts of good reasons, but was convinced to take on a trial membership for this show. The writing and the acting are really unbelievably good. It's funny in a bro sort of way, but maintains a really good balance between wit, outrageousness and nostalgia.

Ended up binging through the series in one night, which I've not done in years.

This is just blunt, crude humor, finally a show in today's era that doesn't focus on every episode having to have sex in it. Pleasant change from the current fad of TV shows that have been released in the passed 2-3 years.

The pilot's okay, the rest you may like if you are under the age of 15. Great idea horribly executed. Very low brow humor, the story goes nowhere, and there's next to no character development. Cartoons have more entertainment value.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TL;DR - Bad pacing, bad acting, poor casting, and endless bodily function humor take what could have been a fun show and turn it into an excruciating r̶i̶p̶-̶o̶f̶f̶ homage to 80s sci-fi.

Seth Rogan and the guys behind "Sausage Party" and "This is the End" clearly like low-brow humor and while that's not necessarily a bad thing, it should be used to further the story. In Future Man, it's included without reason, context, or subtlety.

The base premise is "The Last Starfighter" meets "Terminator" and it's a pretty fun idea, but man oh man, the execution is horrible.

A video game is sent back in time and used to find "The Savior". The person who can beat the game is the one who will save the world.

Josh Hutcherson aka Peeta (may the odds be ever in your favor) beats the game and booyah, the characters from the game appear and take him back in time to stop global annihilation. When they realize he's just a loser gamer and not a highly skilled super-soldier, wackiness ensues.

    Sounds fun, right?

Well, it isn't. Josh Hutcherson, the lantern-jawed munchkin from the Hunger Games is badly miscast as the janitor/gamer destined to save us using the same tired ideas thoroughly mined in Terminator 2, i.e., don't kill anyone, be nice, try the low-key approach and don't kill cops.

But, since no one likes reading paragraphs, I'll make a nice list of things that irritated me and hopefully that will help you make your decision on whether or not you'll enjoy this train wreck.

    1. The casting was awful. Josh should have been a geek, not a perfect-complected mini-me. Eliza Coupe (Tiger) is too old for the role and looks it.

    2. "Punching the clown" to video game characters is potentially funny. So is blowing your load on one of the aforementioned characters when they appear in front of you. Remember I said "potentially", right? Well, that potential remains untapped.

    4. If you need clothes after traveling back in time, there are other ways outside of beating up a biker and stealing his. Yeah, yeah, homage, I get it. How many "homages" can you stick in one show? I'll never know because trying to watch this show is just too painful.

    5. If you can save the world by killing ONE person, you do it when you have the chance. Sitcom-style machinations are just annoying and the show is full of them.

    6. Have to inform a pregnant wife that your partner and her husband just died? Well, nothing funnier then having his entire extended family there to hear the good news, right? But let's drag it out and bring them in one by one, building to a crescendo of comedy. At least that was the attempt. The execution was ****

    7. Global annihilation starting because a frat boy got herpes must have sounded hilarious in the pitch meeting. That hilarity didn't translate to the show.

Do I need to go on? By now you should have a good idea what you're in for by choosing to watch this **** of bad ideas, bad writing, bad execution, bad acting, bad plotting and bad pacing.

How much did I hate this show? Well, I actually created an account to post this. That should tell you all you need to know.

Maybe the children's movies should be reviewed by children so the professional reviewers don't get confused. Please, more grownup fare.

There were so many instances of characters, mainly Wolf, acting in idiotic ways that no human being would ever act in and followed immediately by reactions from others, again in utterly unnatural ways. Maybe i just find that stuff too off-putting in my old age. I absolutely loved This Is The End but this show shares nothing in common with that film apart from the genre.

What was the point of a scene like the individual naming, with separate shots, of each of the 20-strong future resistance crew? Incredibly clumsy stuff unless i'm missing something there.

I did however watch it all because it was an easy watch and amiable enough to sit through but i wish i'd never started.

Oh and the cat dies. Why? Because it's apparently funny.

This relaxing Sci-Fi comedy is better than anticipated. In my opinion this is a barely average TV serial, and does nothing remarkable. The writing was OK, the effect where OK, and the humor was OK as well, the only thing that excelled was the actors performances in some instances. Considering that this was a Comedy first and Sci-fiction after, the humor is pretty much hit or miss. SomeThis relaxing Sci-Fi comedy is better than anticipated. What I definitely liked about the characters that you can genuinely see them develop over the episodes, and plot itself has a few twists and turns which is welcomed with warmth. Overall, it was decent series, worth checking out if you have a lot of time on your hand (pun intended), also take in to consideration that it takes 2-3 episodes for the story to really take on and to empathize, with the characters which in my opinion is a LOT. When janitor Josh Futturman becomes the first person to ever complete the video game Biotic Wars, two characters from the game suddenly appear in his room and recruit him to save the World.

Nothing about Future Man is exactly subtle, but every episode in this first season is entertaining, and providing you don’t mind smutty you’ll probably find it pretty funny as well.

Far from perfect, but it is a great parody of science fiction movies. I am not a gamer so I imagine I am missing a few of the jokes.

Not all episodes are equally strong, but Pandora's Mailbox (the James Cameron episode) had me laughing so hard I was missing some the jokes there were so many great jokes being delivered so fast.

I am looking forward to the next season.

Once you know that Future Man is written and produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir, the team behind the epically uncouth cartoon Sausage Party, further explanation becomes almost totally unnecessary. It's a comic onslaught against video-gamers and their culture of the past 30 years or so, with the occasional random shot at baby boomers so they won't be left out of the fun.
