This is really fun, intriguing stuff, and I hope it finds an audience.

As For Heaven's Sake goes on, it becomes something poignant and worthy of curiosity, and that maybe Mike and Jackson become better detectives in some ways and much worse in others. They perform interrogations, enlist local businesses and cutting-edge technologies and their effort, as much as anything else, becomes endearing. If the first few episodes feel bloated, the last few feel like they could have been a full hour apiece.

Eight episodes is a bit much; viewers may figure out where the story is going just by the very obvious leads that are seemingly ignored at the beginning, in order that they can be pursued later. But the mystery is a good one, perhaps even of the bingeable variety.

Sometimes a series like this is only as good as its lucky breaks. In this case, the Heaven descendants and Minden lifers bring a distinct energy to the show, peppering each historical overview and family legend with plenty of good-natured jabs and hearty recollections.

The first episode has more than enough twists and turns, paired with the full-of-personality members of the Heaven family, to really engage the viewer. Whether the story itself holds up over the remaining episodes is yet to be seen.
