This show is like an Indie movie; a long slow boring, aimless indie movie. It's really not about much of anything and not in a good Seinfeld. The show itself is so confused and aimless that it happily resolves a major plotline in one episode and then resurrects it with a completely different ending in the next episode.

I genuginely didn't understand the point of this hot mess.

i don't even want to spend words on this awful and pointless thing that some people dare to call a tvshow. Simply, AWFUL. don't watch it, do yourself a favor and save these 4 hours of your life. ruth kearney should quit acting and go back to being a no one living on her boyfriend's shoulders. she's awful.

This is the worst thing ever. The whole thing makes no sense really. The acting is so bad that the already bad plot gets even worse. I tried watching a few episodes but it was too painful. I really do not recommend this show to anyone.

Flacked is a trip to the world the part of Venice CA, with its special vibe. The story of Chip, who is in search of his place in the world, but due to his innocence almost infantile Chip is seen in the midst of a great confusion generated by the entiras that he himself tells to remain as a respected guy in his community.

He tried to write this show as some incredibly smart dramedy and he FAILED. The characters are awful, there's no characterizetion, the dialogues are poorly written as the plot is. David Sullivan's character is the usual character put there to make the protagonist look cooler and smarter. Well, it doesn't. I'm so tired of shows like this one! Arnett's character is an **** misogynist and also rude. Like, really rude! Not likeable at all. As the show and the other characters. No chemistry between anyone. It seems like they've been put there and they're trying to get to the end of the show and finally leave.
As an acquaintance of recovering alcoholics I can truly say that THIS SHOW IS AN INSULT TO THEM. And to women too! Grown up men talking about a girl (that's supposed to be a feminist because she likes Frida Kahlo, again, WHAT. I like plenty of things, that doesn't make me any of those things!) like she's a **** trophy. And then, she chooses the 'hot' (again, WHERE) guy. Disgusting, truly.
Finding out that women liked it, makes me really understand how much meninism and misogyny are radicated into our lives!
And, only one black guy? What? Seriously? What happened? No one invented black people yet in Venice Beach?
Only good thing, is the soundtrack (such a waste for a show like this one!)
If Netflix renews this **** for a second season, I'll truly quit with them! I was expecting better from them..

Disgusting male character, not realistic at all. An insult to every recovery story about a dipendence. Plot twist useless, almost a Clichè. Basically the only good thing was the music, period. Still wodnering how netflix decided to renew it for a second season.. but hey they always renew for second seasons even if a show flop like this one. Hope this is the last year that we're going to see a **** series like this one. Expand

Boring show. Bad plot. Even worse is the acting itself. Watched one episode which was more than enough! Seriously, this is no comedy because there is no humor in this.

Other storytellers show you when or if a character lied, Flaked leaves it in the open. You can decide for yourself whether you sympathize with the decisions that Chip makes, but you don't have to sympathize with them. The character is not there to win your favor.
Flaked shows the flaws of human nature better than most other shows currently on Netflix. And anyone who has actually spent time trying to figure out themselves, deal with addiction or just trying their best to be a better person and failing because basic human nature comes from narcissism.
Flaked handles theese topics in a very smart and subtle way. My only criticism is that it also tries to be funny, which is not its strong side, but the jokes seem as desperate and spontanious as the ones we make in real life conversations. Not like the ones written by some comedy genious staff.

TL;DR: Flaked seems to be misunderstood by people that were expecting something else.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved Will Arnett in Arrested Development but I could not reach the end of Ep.1 of Flaked: what little humour there was was predictable and slightly grating.
More annoying was that every woman who lays eyes on "Chip" is apparrently instantly, shamelessly smitten - I'd had enough when "London" appeared and started drooling too.

Flaked is a train wreck of a show, albeit a somewhat slow and aimless one. The drama has a warm, low-key vibe that is a lot of fun over a bottle or two of wine. The show is a good reminder that not all problems have obvious paths, sharp edges, or abrupt crescendos, some just play themselves out slowly as people evolve.

There's something comforting and nice about it. Maybe it's the fact that the main guy is a bit lost, like all of us, and this makes it easy to relate to him. The show's not perfect but that's not what it's about - it's as messed up as real life can be.

Why all the hate? Flaked is a nice little piece on all the messy aspects of life as a man-child. Not everything on TV has to be revolutionary or ground-breaking. The show had some truly tangible moments of despair and aimlessness. Being 40 something and single in LA is probably a lot like the first season of Flaked.

Is it perfect? NO, not even close but it's worth a watch. Hopefully if a second season gets greenlit the writers will focus on the more emotional aspects of the show that made it great and work on developing the characters. Some terrific performances throughout and I would definitely suggest giving it a go even if it is just to prepare you for any future seasons we see.

When the big "surprise" reveal occurs in the 5/6th episode, it doesn't really explode, but simply crackles out.

All in all, it's a decent, quick series to consume, and somewhat worthwhile - I would say that the writing could use more creativity, but as someone that lived in Southern California and misses its lazy hypocrisy personified by Chip, the beautiful camerawork and the ambiance of Venice Beach almost push this rating to a 8.5 or 9 .

Where most shows throw their massive production budget into CGI stunt pieces and sets, making the audience forget their problems in the real world, Flaked addresses peoples problems particularly thier flaws, using both its actors and writer to do so. Whilst, yes, it really only suites the middle class viewer, the middle age viewer and the the younger audience albeit searching for jobs, it at least shows, discusses and relinquishes in its problems. This show will not please you, like the crap ones with over blown budgets try to, but at least in some way it gets you to face yourself.

Not for the viewers who want to forget and use entertainment in a conducive way, certainly not for educational purposes but, in some ways, it at least allows you to explore the characters differently instead of the constant third viewer sympathy trudge we normally get. The acting and the story telling are used perfectly by its location, which are actually both colourful and interesting, not all parts are realistic, but the conflict of the show ties it together well. The only thing it lacks is convictional writing and some scientific language to boost it messages to being somewhat intellectual.

Finally to address the already overwhelmingly bad reviews for this, I can simply tie it down to an audience who likes to watch exciting programs instead, side note: "so do I." However I don't think the the reviewers and audiences alike have taken into account a show that is a break from forgetting and instead a time for some reflection, which is actually sometimes enjoyable and helpful, I understand finding it boring, but least try not to be so harsh on something that helps others, its not harmful for TV like this to be made so I think the scathing reviews are unwarranted.

[Netflix's Love] at least felt fresh and directed in the way it surgically examined the tropes of the romantic comedy. It was a character study that had a purpose, explaining through its run why we were watching these characters to begin with. Flaked never answers that question.
