Even better than the original series (which is hard to beat). It's intentionally slow to give viewers time to relate with the characters before they are plunged into the apocalypse. Great acting, great directing, great story. This is by far the best Zombie-Genre show on TV right now. Here's hoping its success breeds more Zombie series!

I honestly wasn't expecting much of this spin off, I thought it was just gonna be a low-quality copy cad of the actual show directed by a bunch of kidos.

My mind is completely blown at how good the 1st episode was, it really has the feeling the actual show has and they did really good in making up an interesting story to follow. Can't wait for episode 2.

I was a lil bumbled that they were gonna 'milk' the franchise. I knew the new show would be 'good' based on critic reviews. Honestly, the show kinda blew my mind a little. Solid acting, excellent atmosphere(Cali-style), fresh take. It is a 10 for me.

The development is new show is so slow, and more slow that the previous installment from the feel of this "plot" (and that is good!) Because it will take us in a journey to understand and be more interested in the characters.

And of course it is intensive, because is building the "hype" / "excitement" for the moment we all waiting for, the zombie break trough. But as we go there, we get to know and love or hate each of the main characters and so forth as we continue down that road, but yet doing it in a slow sensitive manner by tangling us, the viewers, in this interesting slow phase perspective and life of this families in which is building a few new interesting premises from what we know already. So each of this characters that we still do not know nothing about, but yet we still know the obvious reasons of each one.

Something new and different from the previous installment (as I mention) it is for sure a great and a different intensive new cool experience and perspective from this "beforemath" soon to be a "aftermath"

I think it was GreaT! I don't get the people comments, specially when we know that "Fear the Walking Dead" is THE BEGINNING. I really like the show FTWD and I see this tv show as completely separated from TWD.

FTWD is not TWD and we shouldn't compare them. I'm sick of people comparing the 2 shows.

I like Z Nation, TWD, FTWD, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Gotham and many others.

Amazing character development so far, not so much meaningless action as TWD first episodes but hey thats TWD is for. Personally I prefer the approach this show is taking over just people you dont even know getting eaten all over the place. Also, Im sure we can expect plenty of that as the series builds and gets further into the breakout. 10/10

A spin-off that takes to the start of the zombie apocalypse. As a result this premiere season is a different beast than it's parent series, and not just because it follows a completely different cast of characters.

Given that the zombie apocalypse is just kicking off at the start of this show, the actual number of zombie encounters is limited. The focus is more on drama rather than action. Here we get to watch the characters struggle as the world around them falls apart and they try to understand what is happening. It's tense in a different way. The drama and characters are well-written, even if stupid decisions are made from time to time.

The show looks fantastic. It's got darker lighting all around which gives it a more gothic feel. The zombies look amazing. The lack of decomposition makes them even creepier.

Walking Dead fans can take pleasure in a new chapter in this expanded universe and my fellow zombie fanatics can enjoy a story that takes place at the very start of it all. If you can forgive the typical goofy moments in the writing carrying over from the parent show as well as more of a focus on drama, then this is another Walking Dead show to enjoy.

People that love the zombie genre because they're intrigued by the psychological impact a zombie outbreak would have on society, this show is right up your alley. By the end of the first episode, you see the first signs of an outbreak, and some characters really questioning if what they're seeing is real. It makes you think what people would do if this really happened, and that's what makes this show special so far. It feels real. Relatable. I think the slow burn really works. The LA locales are shot expertly, and the production values are excellent across the board. The cast is also strong. I liked the occasional ominous shot of the hazy LA skyline. Nice foreshadowing!

I am a huge Walking Dead fan. It's funny because I only gave it a try because there was nothing else on T.V..and it became such and engrossing part of my television watching habits. When it is on hiatus, I just get saddened by how long I have to wait to continue the journey with the characters that I have grown to love. So, when I found out about this show and how it was going to be a different direction from the first, I immediately felt the urge to give it a try and not be so skeptical. That horror T.V can work. I am very happy to say that this show definitely pulls it's own weight. What I love most about this show is the different angle in which it is playing. The Walking Dead focuses on survival, whereas Fear the Walking Dead focuses on infection, and the outbreak which started it all, and how people are coming to terms with the chaos that is caused from it. It works. Very well. Because it becomes terrifying in a sense that WE as a viewer know what has happened and how to deal with certain scenarios or situations, but seeing as these characters are in the midst of the outbreak and not the aftermath, they are more vulnerable and oblivious to the dangers and how to face them effectively. And since this is the beginning of the outbreak, the zombies are more "fresh" and not so obvious of what they truly are, which heightens the intensity of the situations that occur on hand .The characters are all portrayed very well and the city is a welcome atmosphere as opposed to the countryside. People who are complaining about not having enough zombies are just ignorant to the fact that they just want the horror part of the story. That is just one part of it . There is a story being told and I am glad that the shows producers are not forgetting that. I would definitely give this show a chance. So far its a great opening to what we have come to know of this Universe and I am very eager to see where they take it . Bravo. Expand

I've been a fan since the beginning and I was a little weary about this spin off. After watching it though I got to say I was glad to see that the starting point is 180 degrees in the opposite direction from The Walking Dead (TWD). I enjoy that we are actually getting a bigger sense of who these people are and what their personalities are like before all the chaos begins. The characters are definitely relatable in many ways to the real world. I see a lot of connections, though I also see a lot of questions. I for one want to know more about the kid who brought the knife. He seems to know something but nobody is giving him the time. That's probably just a crumb but its one that should be followed up on. He seems like he knows more than he's really telling. The dad is a pretty cool guy, the sister seems like a bit of a **** but she's a teen so that's typical. The son well.. I kinda feel like I'm watching Slater from Dazed and Confused but he's strung and how he reacts and the end of the show also tells me that there's more to this character that has yet to be revealed. The mother seems like somebody who is just trying to manage the situation rather then letting it hit her so she can deal with it. I appreciate the fact that it started out slow because you got to see where the cracks in everything began to show up. Their world appears to be on a train that has left the station and picking up speed to the ultimate chaos that follows. I can't wait to see what happens next week. Expand

Perhaps it was my lowered expectations, but four episodes in, I have to admit that the show has grown on me. For a concept that is easy to write off as a cash-grab, this spin-off will pleasantly surprise those with a keen sense and appreciation of nuance.

Fear the Walking Dead shares the high production values, ominous pacing, and heavy, brooding existentialism of the original show. It does not, however, feel like a carbon copy in a different setting, which had been my original assumption and fear. I find it amusing that some critics pan the characters for their questionable behavior and sometimes petty politics, because I have to wonder how some viewers can overlook the obvious nature of these sort of design choices.

As promised by the producers, this is a horror-drama set an entire country apart from the original show, but it may as well be a different world all-together. The suburban sprawl is a fresh deviation from the original show's woodland settings, and the west coast setting only further highlights the differences in attitude and mentality between this cast and the last. We're not following the stories of grizzled combat-vets like Rick, Michonne, and Daryl, because that's what the original show is for. Fear the Walking Dead instead offers interesting and fresh dynamics between an extended family whose relationships had already been troubled prior to the decay of civilization.

It's not so much the threat of impending death or the search for safety that drives this show, but rather, the anxiety of panic and uncertainty. Of course, both shows will overlap with some similar themes, but their primary focus is different enough to make this new series feel fresh. Rather than being a show focused on man versus nature, this show focuses on the conflict of man versus man.

While we have yet to see how the show will evolve over time, it's exciting to contemplate how it evolves, and how the producers will continue to keep it from feeling like the original.

Fear the Walking Dead is a wonderfully refreshing reboot that reminds viewers of the exciting, moving, and dramatic potential The Walking Dead had in its first season - a potential the show has all but squandered.
