As a fan of the original show, this is a swing and a miss for this spin off. In the original show's pilot, we have a car chase which leads to a dazed and confused Rick Grimes waking up from a coma to find himself in a terrifying hellhole. It was exciting and creepy.

In 'Fear of the Walking Dead', we have a stoner getting hit by a car, getting locked up inside a hospital (makes little sense), and half an hour of whining by apathetic LAPD members and a 'Stand and Deliver' style classroom drama that just drags on and on for some time. Apathetic is the best word here, because it doesn't seem like anyone cares what's going on. Even when the zombies show up, it doesn't feel exciting...and that's a bad sign for this spin-off.

Huge fan of TWD. Fear The Walking Dead is garbage. Bad acting, bad story, bad pacing, bad directing, boring cinematography. There is nothing of any value here. This show is an insult to TWD and is doing a disservice to the franchise. They need to cancel this ASAP.

    Utter ****

The show is closer to "Fear the Government" than it's original title. The only episode that is any way entertaining at all is the last one and even that one s full of zombie cliches. The characters are boring, the story is terrible and the show as a whole is an effortless dull cash grab.

Would not recommend, will certainly not come back for the second season.

I always thought the strength of the Walking Dead rested on its characters who sink deep into your memory and stay there forever. You mourn every loss, anticipate every episode, feel relief whenever the characters are given a few minutes' worth of respite. Fear the Walking Dead is the complete opposite of that - basically all the characters are **** annoying, and such a strong reaction is a huge achievement considering how bland, lifeless and dull they are. You literally don't give a flying **** if any of them dies; in fact, you're rooting for some of them to be torn to pieces and stop irritating you. The mother looks like an ugly alligator, the daughter is too beautiful to be even vaguely believable as an actual person, the romance between two alpha males is hilariously forced, the father... etc., etc. There's some depth to the ex-torturer, but that's all. Now you see the problem - if you wanna the main cast to be devoured, that's a sign of some pretty disastrous character creation.

We could go on and list dozens of other gripes people have been mentioning - pacing issues, stupid decisions, recycled plot points from the Walking Dead (actually verging on plagiarism in some episodes) - but it's all a side-note to the main downer: the weakest, most boring, uninspired and insipid characters I've seen in a TV series in my life. Oh, and if you expected this series to give you the answers the Walking Dead never provided... well, you're gonna be disappointed on that front as well.

So there you go, a complete failure in every possible respect, at best, it could serve as a form of guilty pleasure for the fans of the original masterpiece to poke fun at, a rubber doll with an unchanging expression on its rubber face on which you can vent your anger with friends and criticise every single second of this massive disappointment.

    Enjoy. At your own peril.

This show is a train wreck, and needs to be taken off the air. Otherwise, it needs an overhaul, new writers, stronger and more interesting characters who are capable of growing, not alienating everyone. There must be a leader in this series somewhere - a person who should really be at the helm making better decisions than Madison. And honestly, why is Madison even needed? She brings nothing useful to the table. Alicia and Nick are promising - Alicia is growing, Nick puts himself out there & tries to help. Somebody in charge of this show needs to open their eyes. Wait, maybe 'Madison' is in charge of the show - that certainly would explain a lot. (BTW, I do not blame the actors - they follow the director's lead and the writers script). Rating it a (1) for either kill it or revamp it. I don't give a crap if it is a spin off - as a spin off it always had big shoes to follow after, but the way it is now is a poor excuse for giving up an hour of your life each week. It certainly is not entertainment. Expand

I have been watching this show since season one. The plot/storylines is not that bad. I like when they were at the hotel i would have liked to see that played out more, i think they left that storyline too quick. I just think the actors/characters are not likable. If there were different actors playing the parts maybe it would not be so boring i could care less who dies on the show

I can't stand the "bail my kids out of their situation regardless of their own stupidity" type of parenting. The step dad finds blood everywhere in the church but seems to see no need to call the authorities. The kid then commits murder and the parents are already talking about how to get him out of that. I am hoping that they all get eaten in the second episode and a better group of people becomes the cops. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The pilot for this show was slow and the writing was terrible. I get the idea of the show is partly to explore the effects on everyday people. That is part of the charm of the original series. It is not all about the political elite and extraordinary heroes. It about the human spirit and how various personalities tap into that spirit with varying outcomes.
Okay, so why are these characters doing stupid stuff that no one would do. Why do the police fail to investigate a place that has been named as crack den where a gruesome murder just took place. Sure the witness is a crackhead, but still. So instead, the kids step dad - for no good reason - decides to go and investigate the crack-den gruesome murder scene himself - at night. Sure enough, its true. But does he call the cops? Nope, him and his wife decide to go back and check it out again, alone. Yep, still a crack-den scene of gruesome murder. Does anyone call the cops? No. But then the wife's judgement is so good that she decides to keep the knife wielding of a student just their little harmless secret.

And so on. The characters are just cardboard cut outs, their actions the consequence of just unaccountably stupid plot twists.

Me thinks the writers of this series have contempt for their audience.

After months of teasing, little glimpses of what looked like one helluva spin-off filled with action packed sequences of the fall of modern civilization, AMC has given us.... well, the 1970's British equivalent of an action film. A lot of talk and no action. This is one of the greatest disappointments in television history. Why they have chosen a slow, no, ploddingly slow told narrative about a group of characters we care very little about and even find extremely unlikable at times is a total mystery.

The 90 minute pilot begins with a great little scene of a young girl who has been impaled making some unlucky former friend her morning breakfast when she is discovered munching on him by her boyfriend who it turns out is a drug addict in a shooting gallery and who becomes such a little creep that 30 minutes later you wish she had made him into her lunch. I just hate this guy! He's portrayed by an actor that looks as if he has been cast only because he looks like Johnny Depp and who lacks either the ability to make his character likable or is reacting to bad direction, writing or all three. He also looks way too healthy to be a heroine addict.

The story continues to go downhill from there with long setups to very little delivery and a frustrating lack of information on what's happening in the greater world. The show was sold to us on the premise of us being able to see the fall of civilization, what we only saw the aftermath of in the original show. In this one there isn't even a news report seen on a television in the background of frightened reporters giving terrifying reports from around the globe. All we have are characters that are either despicable like the very predicable Army officer seen in the fifth episode or incredibly weak and homogenized that even after seeking and KNOWING what the dead can do still refuse to put them down. One lead character, the mother of the druggie and a nurse at the local high school is forced to kill one of her co-workers by bludgeoning him and then goes home with absolutely no visible feeling whatsoever, never tells her husband, (the weak one) and not a drop of blood on her. We are now at the fifth episode of what is a six episode season and we have YET to see more than two or three of the dead walking at any given time and no real action! Los Angeles is supposed to be overrun and we have seen perhaps a total of ten walkers. Even the scenes of chaos when everyone supposedly goes nuts and riots when law and order breaks down is totally unconvincing. They just look like a bunch of extras hired out of the teenage hangouts at the local mall hired to throw paper around and jump up and down a lot on abandoned cars.

Maybe it was budgetary reasons that kept the show from being bigger and wider in scope but if that were the case then they never should have attempted it in the first place. The promos for the show gave us great shots of people running screaming and a walker being shot down or taking a bite out of someone but those scenes were the ONLY such scenes in the entire series! This is like the mediocre films made that give you all the good scenes in the trailer leaving you really angry that you threw away your dollars on tripe punctuated by good stuff you have already seen. I still hold out hope that his series will finally take off and show us what we deserve but as of now I feel that I have wasted five hours of my life.

I understand that a second season is already green lit and in production. If it's not better, a WHOLE LOT better than this dull, dragging, morose mess then there will definitely not be a third. This is doubly frustrating as I could have thought up, shot, edited completed something far more interesting and terrifying in my sleep. This isn't the horror show we were promised. It's a Dr. Phil episode with far less interesting drama and no more horror than a television spot for a horror film.

Sadly, the interpersonal drama is akin to what you might expect from an after-school special designed to teach young people about the wonders of diversity. I found it nauseating, and not in a flesh-eating way - more like a banal, mind-numbing way. In addition to the oh-so-wonderful diverse blended family, we are treated with characters ham-hamdedly intended to appeal to preteens. The heartthrob teenage boy will obviously clean up his act, but is currently quite annoying, as his bored sister. The classroom scenes, supposedly showing us the wonder of a teacher reaching out to urban youth, are straight out of the 1960s.

Based on the depth of TWD, I suppose I'll give this one a little more of my time, but it's painful to do so.

When you go from Rick grappling with a post-apocalyptic world apologising to a zombie missing legs with incredible music in the background to scenes where Alicia and her impetuous teenager love obsession with some guy coupled with her adolescent rebellious nature dominating scenes it feels more like home and away episode than anything else. The script writer’s attempt to mix things up by having a drug addict suffer from withdrawal syndrome doesn’t really keep suspense or the story interesting either.

Disaster scenes feel cheap and fake which may point to a lack of funding. Riot scenes have a handful of riot police and protesters which is a stark contrast to the sheer calamity the show is trying to convey. The acting is poor and their characters feel forced rather than superb acting in the Walking Dead. Every scene is stretched out to ad nauseam, the dialogue is awful and the characters are monotone and boring.

AMC had a blockbuster TV series with The Walking Dead. The comic is still going full strength and I doubt it will be running out of steam any time soon. With a TV show that is already pre-written, a contract that allows creative control to change, twist and add to an already popular graphic novel, why would AMC even BOTHER with making an attempt to add a second "Walking Dead" show on TV?

Ratings. Pure and simple. AMC got greedy. Walking Dead is already a powerhouse on their network and in the ratings. But the fact is, even The Walking Dead has a tendency to be slow and dragged out at times, to the point I may even skip entire episodes at a time.

Fear The Walking Dead only shows that the writers and creative force over at AMC has no real creative writing team, no one has a solid grasp or understanding on how the Walking Dead works, which should first and foremost be a zombie thriller first, a human drama second.

Take out the horror, zombies, violence and thrills of The Walking Dead and all you have is a day time soap opera and that is exactly what Fear The Walking Dead is. It takes the very concept and core identity of the franchise (ZOMBIES) and throws it right out the god damn window.

Is it going to get better? Only time will tell, but I have no idea how long I can hold out until the show actually becomes more exciting and interesting. And really, is a show that forces me to slog through slow, boring bits only to get gradually better over time even worth MY TIME?

    I'd say no.

First season was almost passable, but this second season -- ugh. The boat story should've only lasted a couple episodes, not an entire season. Acting is super weak, the writing even weaker. It's a boat story with a few zombies randomly thrown in. I finally stopped mid-episode last week and said 'no more'.

Sure it right now has better walker action but its nothing spectacular considering The Walking Dead's walkers at the very beginning of the show were the exact same the only reason it seems so different right now is because of the timeline differences. FTWD started at the very beginning of the apocalypse where TWD started 6 weeks after it at least. FTWD is just a cheap knock-off version of the original show. Just look at the viewerbase of the two shows and it shows how bad FTWD is compared to TWD and it is embarrassing. FTWD's total view numbers is down to just over 2 million since last episode aired and TWD's are still between 10-11 million where they have been for years. Fear the Walking Dead is not and it will never, ever be better than The Walking Dead. It is a total disgrace and a spit in the face to the original show whoever came up with the idea of this garbage spin-off should be ashamed of themselves. Expand

While the limited glimpses of the zombies we got were good the terrible writing/acting delivered during the other 95% of the show was dishearteningly bad.

I don't think the character introductions went the way they wanted them to go. Instead of making you care about anyone they introduce the main characters as being people so incredibly stupid you don't want them to live through this.

Instead of making you care about anyone they introduce the main characters as being people so incredibly stupid you don't want them to live through this. While it's OK to introduce future zombie chow it's not OK to turn the entire cast into this and not even give the courtesy of a smart character you can relate to and pull for through the shows twists and turns.

We have a couple of teachers in a blended family struggling with their heroin addict son who is also apparently the dumbest kid in California. The angsty pointless teenage daughter trying leave town with her art school boyfriend. Some random highschool kid you barely get introduced to trying (badly) to tell people something bad is coming and brandishing a butterknife for self defense (dumb). Then of course the show then ends up being 90% dumb teachers dealing with dumb son's issues (something you probably hear about from other people at work all day long) 5% "wait a minute something is strange here but whatever lalalalala" and 5% "wow there's an actual zombie" to which the three main characters have a very subdued "well that was really odd don't you think" reaction to instead of the realistic reaction which would be to flee in screaming terror or at the very least go get help immediately.

Apparently episode 2 will be more hair pulling of a similar nature. Failed character development and a few zombie teasers again. Bad way to start.

There was some smart editing and a couple of neat tricks teasing with the comfort of our knowledge from the main series. Other than that, it's what pretty much everyone else says: dull and predictable story, poor writing, very annoying characters and some cringeworthy acting.
Unless you're a teenager who is really into the horror genre, skip this one...

There was so much hype about FTWD, so no small wonder why it was the most watched premiere. Every fan of TWD waited in anticipation, hoping for something to hold them over until October. FTWD doesn't seem to have the appeal, the excitement, the FEEL of TWD. It doesn't compare. I'll watch episode 2, but I'm not sure I'll watch episode 3, 4, 5 or 6. Come on October!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Big fan of TWD, so when I heard Kirkman was involved and might finally get a chance to give some origin to the epidemic, I decided to give it a shot. Boy was that a mistake. All you need to know from this hour long snore fest was that the kid is a drug addict and that causes the "modern day" family situation stress. That's all. Time that should've been spent building suspense in the world (mumblings about the disease while standing in line at the grocery, or clips of morgues overflowing) was over ridden by the teenager's drug use. I get it as a tool for delivering doubt at the onset of the pandemic, I even get it as an attempt to make you understand/care about the new characters (completely failed btw), but the way this is force fed to you over and over makes me think that they were under the impression that they were the first tv show to ever tackle the topic of teenage drug use. I didn't expect zombies everywhere as this is set pre-epidemic, and the sirens and choppers that seemed to grow louder as the episode went on was a nice touch, but I disliked the characters, and seeing as how all they attempted to do in this episode was make me care about what happens to angsty teenagers and the edu-rents, that's not a good sign. The kid uses heroin. Really, I got it. Won't be watching this again, i'll stick to the flagship where something actually happens. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This series is a money-grab by AMC and Robert Kirkman. The pitch was "We'll see the end of civilization". We've seen nothing. There are 16M people in the LA area. It is impossible to evacuate that many people. A lot of people have to get sick, die, and turn in a short timeframe. Influenza and plague have devastated societies in the past yet few people have actually been sick. There has only been 2 walkers in Maddie's neighborhood. One was a suicide. Two walkers is not enough to evacuate a community. It is reasonable that people would be getting sick and dying yet the neighborhood hasn't been exposed to the contagion. No one has Internet, TV or radio in a middle-class neighborhood. The Internet was designed to function after a nuclear war however it has failed after less than 2 weeks because no one allegedly is there to maintain it. Walkers tearing apart stupid characters is boring. Perhaps the series can be saved when better writers are hired. IMO we're being served hot garbage and expected to like it. Expand

Anyway, as for the show, It has its moments, and i am still sticking with it through gritted teeth! I'm a sucker for punishment. The show is a drama about humans struggling, It has very little to do with the walkers. The acting is terrible, especially Kim Dickens and her family in the show. Kim takes the award for actress who cant act award for 2017. It is levels of bad that i can't put into words.

If it wasn't for the feminist obsession here in 2017 they would have killed her off along time ago. In fact, i believe that doing so would draw people back into the world more as it is unbelievable how a woman who only has one emotion can influence so many people and act like a bad ass when in real life she wouldn't have lasted a second with how she acts in fear the walking dead.

I have seen a drop in qaulty of the walking dead since fear started awhile back. I dont know if this is just a coincadence but the shows feel stale and repetative. They are so scared to offend people that certain events happen on the show that in a real life situation would go down a whole different way!

The thematic questions they should be asking with this spin off is a question of hope, not a question of humanity.

In the original Walking Dead, the characters struggle with holding on to their humanity, asking themselves questions about who they are and what makes them good or evil. They slowly change into ruthless killers in order to survive and throughout their experiences we accept their behavior as just. Their evolution is painfully showcased throughout all 6 seasons and when they realize they are in a new world order we accept how they’ve changed.

In Fear the Walking Dead the same questions and results are only shown within 2 seasons and there is nothing different but a rehashed pitch from the original. By the end of season 2 the characters of FTWD have already accepted the new world order, all while Rick is still asleep in his coma. This hardly seems like the beginning of the end of the world.

This type of spin off shows the archive to spin is infinite without ever having to find an intersecting point with the original. But I wonder how many spin offs can they make before the audience moves on to a new series.

This is not what I expected when I heard of FTWD, I expected the characters with real and logical emotions, and a story that is in relation to the original series. I want to see ground zero of The Walking Dead. Where the disease started, how it spread, who tried to stop it, and what they did when it became uncontrollable.

The thematic questions Fear the Walking Dead should have are, “Can we stop the end of the world?” and “Is there hope for all of us?” This spin off is a rehashed pitch from the original, using the former as an outline all while changing characters and settings. The characters in FTWD left LA too soon, and they accepted the end of the world without a fight.

Also to add, the characters in FTWD have poor logic, which frustrates the audience, and also the series in general seems very half baked. Nothing new to see here... Or Fear.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fear the walking dead begins with a character finding out that things are going to **** in a meth house. Or crack house. (not sure of the name) We find the character Nick, who's character is the only name I can remember after watching 2 episodes of this **** who finds someone he knows as a zombie and runs out into the middle of the road and gets by a car and dies.. I only wish that happened..

Look I don't even want to dive that thoroughly into the episode, because I feel as if I did, I would be wasting my time. I'm here to point out all the problems I witnessed in this episode.

So after a unique opening we are greeted with the pile of **** known as Fear The Walking Dead, now Fear The Walking Dead as a title doesn't make sense because at NO POINT during the first 2 episodes was I scared. No point, I did not experience fear at all, so the title of the series is **** stupid to begin with, however I understand why it's called that, it shows how lazy the production was, they literally just stuck the word "Fear" in front of "The Walking Dead" now that is lazy as all ****.

The title being lazy symbolises the entire production, lazy, dull and seem as if they don't give a crap. The episode itself is one of the most drawn out and dull pieces of garbage I have ever witnessed, there is nothing salvageable about Fear the Walking Dead. 2 episodes in I could not describe the characters personality, seriously people bang on about Clara from Doctor Who not having a character but at least you could tell the writing department were trying. Beside Steven Moffat. But here, not one character has a likeable personality, possibly Nick? but then again I can't really describe his personality, and I can't even remember the other characters names.

This is jarring as hell considering that The Walking Dead, the TV show, I could name nearly every character. Well the important ones at least, Rick, Morgan, Dwayne, Lori, Carl and Shane in the first 2 episodes. in FTWD, I can remember 1, that's not saying much about a show that the writers original intention was to be all about the characters, which was dealt with remarkably well in the Main series. For the first 3 seasons at least, season 4 is where things started to fall apart with characterisation.

So the characters are bad, but I haven't even begun on the acting. with Nick, I get the sense he's sort of trying but with the others.. I constantly think of them as actors reading a script due to the expressionless faces of the actors I have a feeling they don't give a **** about anything but their pay check. The Mother of Nick (the name of her, I cannot recall) is a **** for the reason... she's a **** she acts really uptight for no reason and tells some police to **** off in the first episode (she doesn't say **** off, but she tells them to basically get lost) and this makes her character come across as rather unlikeable. Then there's Nicks sister who is a blank slate and his step dad who is also a blank slate.

The one point that really **** annoyed me in episode 2 was when the dad or mother didn't tell the neighbours about the upcoming apocalypse. what a ****head, that made the character so unsalvageable for me, I considered no longer watching due to the extent that part pissed me off. This is probably down the writing, which is god awful and cliche as **** I could predict nearly everything that was going to happen in the first 2 episode. Girls boyfriend, oh he's going to get bitten and they'll cry and get all sad.. the problem is I don't care about this girls boyfriend, I've spent to little time knowing him so when he dies I don't care about his character enough to feel sad, I'm not invested.

The narrative falls apart whenever I think about it, I was intrigued at the beginning as I thought it was going to be fast paced. But then I read up a bit more and the point of the show is that it's the start of the apocalypse, not during it, before. Not only is this concept a stupid as **** idea, beginnings are never the most interesting part, that's why they skipped it in their main series!!! because we could cut right to the action. This is a stupid concept.

So the Narrative sucks. The acting is plain awful. All the characters are blank slates. The Script is shoddy. What about the direction.... well it's kind of **** I doubt a lot of money went into making it because the cinematography is really cheesy and bland.

Before people start hammering that "no" on the helpful review section or report me for trolling or some **** can you please not. I will respect your opinion if you respect mine. I do not like the series but you're allowed to like it. This is just an opinion and if you liked it, good for you, but personally I don't have the appeal.

In conclusion I genuinely dislike the series, I've listed reasons and supported it with evidence to back up my claims for reasons why. 1/10.

Talk talk talk..buhu cry.. weak family...debate...talk about this and that. If this world was in chaos. And ive meet people like that? I would run the other direction. still as boring and stupid as ever ... all the critics claiming this show is WAY better than "The Walking Dead" have obviously been paid a lot of money to lie ...

As a fan of the original show... this particular season was more of a let down for me. The entire time I was waiting to be engaged... or connected with some or one of the characters however I felt as if I didn't really care who died or who lived and the ending didn't feel satisfying in any way to me. The entire time I was waiting to be engaged... or connected with some or one of the characters however I felt as if I didn't really care who died or who lived and the ending didn't feel satisfying in any way to me. The character development was abysmal and the acting was pretty poor by some of the actors taking the immersion factor away completely. The walkers themselves even seemed a little off, perhaps being so early in the infection time it is too early to judge. However it is interesting as a fan of the original series to see what was happening when Rick went into a coma, before the outbreak and seeing the chaos and turmoil the characters had to face. If you're a fan of the walking dead I'd say try it, see if you like it, if not, then don't bother with the rest of the season. I wouldn't recommend this however if you are not a fan and would say watch the walking dead for a much better overall experience in this universe. Expand

Fear the Walking Dead is heavy on spooky atmosphere and light on zombies (they’ll be known as “infected,” not walkers, we’re told) in the early going.

Fear the Walking Dead pulls off a great feat in prequel land: using that nagging sense of inevitability to its advantage. It shouldn’t work, but it totally does.

Fear the Walking Dead is a wonderfully refreshing reboot that reminds viewers of the exciting, moving, and dramatic potential The Walking Dead had in its first season - a potential the show has all but squandered.
