I have watched every episode for the entire show that is known as Emerald City. After watching these shows, I have come to a few conclusions. The first is that this show must be eliminated. The first is that this show must be eliminated. What was touted as a trip through our childhood favorite story about Oz and the beloved characters ended up as an abomination of the same. I am sorry that this hit the tv past its pilot, because it was not worth the time. If this was a book, it wouldn't be worth the effort to turn the pages. This show has a completely confusing storyline that takes the viewer all over the map for non related sub stories, which are never explained and simply don't fit the overall plot. The visual effects have pulled the wool over some peoples' eyes, but not mine. This show has two wonderful characters - Dorothy and Ev. These two are acted out wonderfully and are intriguing, to say the least. The wizard is not believable as a wizard, because of his horrible acting and his whiny voice. Glinda is not a good character in this show, simply because her character is written horribly. The actress is as well not a seasoned actress, as she shows us. Many other characters are just weird and unappealing. But the worst thing about this show is the thing that is ozma. This thing was killed off early on and I was very happy. I hoped that the writers saw that its creation was wrong and needed to be cleansed from the show. I was very ashamed in the writers for bringing it back to life. This is the number one reason to cancel the show. Bad attempt at re hashing a classic. Please end this show now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Emerald City is honestly one of the worst pieces of media I have ever seen. Almost nothing about the Wizard of Oz has been done correctly. Reboots are fun, gritty reboots can be even moreso, but this is a textbook example of a bad gritty reboot. The Scarecrow and Dorothy were fine. The whole Lion and Tin Man subplot was mind-numbingly stupid at best and severely problematic and offensive at worst. The acting is all over the place, with scenery-chewing being the staple of every performance. The lore was stupid. Everything about this was stupid. To call this an abomination on the level of something like The Room or Manos: The Hands of Fate is insulting to both The Room and Manos. Terrible production values, hammy, melodramatic acting, and terrible effects make this a complete waste of time. Do not watch this show. Expand

Style over substance can only carry a show so far. This Wizard of Oz Apocalypse Reborn quickly became a slog to watch. Creative team dropped a big 'ol house on this "event" series.

It seems that the only aim of this show's creators is to suck hope of any childhood memory of the Oz story viewers might have. This is preying on a classic and reverting it to titillation over who and what will be smashed next.

Poorly written script with incoherent confusing plots. As for the poorly written part as an example in the first episode where Dorothy finds Lucas (the Scarecrow?) being crucified with crows pecking on him... she pulls him down and her first words are "Are you all right?" I could not stop laughing... supposedly this Dorothy is a nurse in our reality, but obviously missed the class on torture and that you are likely not all right after enduring it. And it appears no one smiles or laughs ever in OZ... not ever, not even a little bit. Real life - even a bad life - has some lighter moments; that is reality and how people deal with their lot is not through more dreariness. The mark of a good show is too be able to portray real characters.... This series fails completely. This Dorothy needs some serious psychological treatments (or a lobotomy) and comes across as a big time loser... certainly no one to sympathize with... and the Wizard of OZ in 'Emerald City'... Well, who said you had to know how to act to get into acting and get a leading role in Hollywood? `Nuf said, the series is a complete waste. Expand

The entire thing feels too canny, too much the result of a marketplace gamble, and that’s especially dispiriting in light of the fact that all ten episodes are directed by Tarsem Singh, an extravagant visual stylist whose work tends to have a music-video-fashion-show-nightmare vividness even when the story makes no sense and isn’t trying to.

Practically all this ill-conceived series has going for it is spotting the mutations in plot and characters brought on by the conversion from fairytale to cheerless sword-and-sorcery epic.

The plotting is goofy, the tone is relentlessly dark and the pacing is excruciatingly slow. Worst, the characters are hard to care about.
