The gap is especially wide between African-Americans and the primarily Caucasian LAPD, as demonstrated by two plots lines. These lines start together as Friday and Gannon hold a community relations meeting. In this meeting are a young male and an older couple this episode follows their story.

A pair of police officers stop the older Afro-American couple. The officers approach and interrogate them as if they were criminals. The couple feels hurt and angry on how the officers treated them. Friday and Gannon help the couple and officers bridge the gap.

The young - and slightly militant - black man barricades himself in his apartment rather than submit to a traffic warrant. Friday talks him down.

At the end of the episode real life Chief Thomas Redding makes a plea for a mutual understanding between the community, you, and your police.
