Shifting the focus from the companions and the Daleks to Davros and the Doctor gives this second part a different and unique approach to the same story that makes this a really solid two-parter. The dialogue is some of Russell's best, Davros is a perfect balance of cheese and terror, and the revelation of the Doctor's morals is a compelling and emotional watch that beats the audience down to the mud, only for Donna and the Doctor to save the day in a satisfying fashion that picks us up again. But then, we are gut-punched back to the ground with Donna's depressing departure. The unpredictable nature of this narrative and the roller-coaster of emotions it sends us on cements this episode as some of Davies' best work. Expand
