    I would give a 1 for the cinematic image of this 11th season, but no, it doesn't even deserve it.

    Im severe but i still love the show and i know this is just a bad moment, it will be good again someday, maybe after a second cancellation and a couple of decades, like they did the first time, because, lucky us, the Doctor is virtually immortal, yay !

    The worst Doctor ever. No interesting story, flat not convincing characters. A lot of primitive political agenda. I can't recommend it to any one.

    It's so painful to see what this show has become because of poor writing and political correcteness.. Jody is not a bad actress i'ts just she don't fit the doctor shoe. And the companions are so empty it's like they were chosen just for the sake of diversity. As for the stories well... To sumarize the writers just don't love the lore and universe of doctor who and it shows. If you're a fanIt's so painful to see what this show has become because of poor writing and political correcteness.. Jody is not a bad actress i'ts just she don't fit the doctor shoe.     Was hoping the 11th series of my favourite show would continue the story of my favourite alien from Galifrey but alas Jodie Whittake and Chris Chibnal with the BBC have retconned the entire story from the 1st DR to the 11th Dr and started a whole new story line and slapped all of the loyal Dr Who fans faces with there sjw woke agenda.Every episode felt like a different show which hadWas hoping the 11th series of my favourite show would continue the story of my favourite alien from Galifrey but alas Jodie Whittake and Chris Chibnal with the BBC have retconned the entire story from the 1st DR to the 11th Dr and started a whole new story line and slapped all of the loyal Dr Who fans faces with there sjw woke agenda.Every episode felt like a different show which had nothing to do with DR WHO,the music score was bad ,the storys were even worse and the acting was non existant.     As a member of the public who has seen every episode of Doctor Who from classic up until just before the release of series 11 I believe I can call myself a true Whovian.

    With this I would like to say I had a high hope that with the new Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) coming on board, there may be a new breath of life added to the show. I was right and I was wrong. There was a new breath of    As a member of the public who has seen every episode of Doctor Who from classic up until just before the release of series 11 I believe I can call myself a true Whovian.

    With this I would like to say I had a high hope that with the new Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) coming on board, there may be a new breath of life added to the show. I was right and I was wrong. There was a new breath of life but not the life I was expecting.

    This series has taken such a nose dive from being a great program to a program filled with identity politics, bad acting and bad writing. The only good actor in the whole series was Bradley Walsh. The rest of the "Friends" as they are now called :-/ feel like they are added just for effect and quite frankly get in the way.

    As for Jodie, this doctor has not made me feel in any way like she is the doctor. All her predecessors have given you a wow factor within the first to second episode to promote and to state they are the doctor, they do it with such conviction that you feel it.

    David did it when he exited the TARDIS on the spaceship over London during his first episode, Capaldi did it when he looked up at the camera after throwing the cyborg from the restaurant in Deep Breath, Matt did it when he confronted the Atraxi and the list goes on. There was only one part of dialogue which could of made Jodie feel like the Doctor and that was in the New Years Special when she confronted the Dalek, she even messed that up as it felt so wooden.

    This took a whole series to even remotely make people feel she was the doctor and even that was not done right. The only time there was any fire in Jodie (sorry cannot bring myself to say the Doctor) is when she was staring down men and giving them a good scalding.

    The writing was extremely poor and so driven to identity politics that it completely missed the mark on what the show was all about to begin with in the first place, entertainment; a means for people to escape the woe of everyday life. I sincerely hope that series 12 is better with better writing and Jodie putting a bit more effort into her role, when I say effort I am not referring to the scrunch face she makes which makes her look constipated every time she does it.

    On a side note as well there has been a lot of attacks aimed at true fans from the writers and from Jodie herself, this is not on.    … Expand

It lacked the magic that the previous ones had.     Absolutely awful. I watched maybe 4 episodes but couldn't bring myself to fully watch the rest.

    It seems that the story and characters have been put on the sideline in favour of "wokeness" or being Politically correct... forcefully so.

    As a white hetrosexual English man I really feel that this new season is against people like me. I am seemingly at fault for the worlds problems.

    In every season of Doctor Who, I had those moments where I was seriously baffled, shocked, tense and just ENTERTAINED. This season had NO SINGLE moment like this. I do not know if it's the new filming style, the actors, the accents or just the completely different atmosphere, but I know one thing for sure: This season ruined everything for me.

    Watching Jodie Whittaker act in this is cringeworthy. Crude political lecturing treats the audience like idiots. Worst crime of all, the show is no fun. At all. Feels like a social experiment, goading the audience to criticize based on terrible acting, bad writing, awful TARDIS design, too many one dimensional companions, "Team Tardis" & "My Fam", Boring music... Avoid.

    I have watched 3 episodes of series 11 and I will continue watching at this stage. The stories seem to be written for children, or maybe a US audience. Dealing with historical figures is tricky. The episode a few series ago with Vincent van Gogh is one of my favourites, but episode 3 about Rosa Parks is more like educational fiction written for elementary students. Very disappointing.

I think don't even think kids would find it interesting. Too much boring and forced regurgitated dialog between characters . This is hard for me to say as I love the old shows so much .     Go woke, get broke. Studios don't seem to understand this simple phrase. I hated this season, more focused on boring SJW garbage than on real sci-fi. I'm done with this show.

    I was really looking forward this series - and it's just... nothing. I love Jodie, and all three companions seem O.K. - but the writing is awful. There is no challenge there. No struggle. No room for some act, selfishness, sacrifice. They just do some teamwork and that's all. And it's really sad because filming in general seems to improve. Light, colors, frames - they are better. But what for?

Too many sidekicks, boring storylines, and a doctor that just isn't doing anything dramatically strong for the part is putting me to sleep. Personally, two of the sidekicks need to be removed. The Doctor needs a little more EQ values to steer the already "duh" storyline. Hopefully, thingsSo far, I'm a little disappointed with the new Doctor Who characters in spite of its high TV rating.     It's not all Jodie's fault. While her work in series 11 of Doctor Who is the worst I've seen from her (she has no real presence, pulls stupid faces and generally acts as if the Doctor's brain has been switched for that of an excitable puppy), it's the utterly atrocious writing that is the biggest problem. First, the new head writer and main creative force behind a show should never be the person who wrote the worst episodes of the previous showrunner's tenure. Second, call me stupid, but, I would have thought that, if you're working on a sci-fi show, it would be desirable, if not completely essential for everyone in your writer's room to have some experience of writing for the genre instead of just the showrunner and one other, but that;'s what we were given.

    Third and lastly, but by no means least, is the far-left, new-wave feminist and gender politics agenda. Now, there are people who say that Doctor Who has always been political. While it would be dishonest to contradict that, it would be honest to say that the audience wasn't ever smacked under the chin with politics, so to speak, as it definitely was in the latest series.

    It's clear to see that audiences have been turned off by the ham-fisted, crowbarring-in of political correctness. There are numerous examples of discriminatory language and sentiments that crop up in the latest series, including racist, misandrist and anti-capitalist sentiments.

    To sum up, then, everything in series 11 either outrageously below par or utterly toxic in terms of attitude, and, what's worse, we're told that there is going to be more of the same in 2020 for series 12. That means, I'm afraid to say, that the minds behind Doctor Who are prepared to kill one of my favourite shows, and that makes me really sad.    … Expand

    I was actually looking forward to this season with the new Doctor with the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of the last season. Sadly, the new crew decided absolutely everything about the old show was no good so they replaced it with lifeless music, no cliffhangers, no story arcs, lousy scripts, dull dialog, horrid so-called villains, two dimensional companions, lack luster acting (exceptI was actually looking forward to this season with the new Doctor with the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of the last season. Sadly, the new crew decided absolutely everything about the old show was no good so they replaced it with lifeless music, no cliffhangers, no story arcs, lousy scripts, dull dialog, horrid so-called villains, two dimensional companions, lack luster acting (except for Bradly Walsh), virtually no use of the tardis or anything from the original show, and overall boring boring boring! They even messed up the mini-cliffhanger with the show intro.

    I'm very progressive yet the pontificating in each episode (I only made it to the horrid space hospital before I quit) was way over the top. Trump is a pathologically lying conman, but sticking in an obvious Trump clone into a Doctor Who episode was embarrassing. I do lots of serious things in my life and this was one of the shows I enjoyed escaping to but sadly instead Chibnall and company decided that fun and excitement were not what the show needed to be and they replaced it with the feeble stale spin-off.    … Expand

    I have been a fan of Doctor Who for over 50 years. MY Doctor as they say is Patrick Troughton although I remember Hartnell in the role. There were some poor years in my opinion, especially in the 80's when I only just managed to hold on for the ride as the scripts and actors weren't the best. However when it disappeared from our screen in 1989 I did start to miss the show. We were lucky inI have been a fan of Doctor Who for over 50 years. We were lucky in as much as we were starting to find missing episodes and then Big Finish stepped in to carry on the storytelling. I enjoyed the Film despite the Half Human quote but at least it gave Sylvester McCoy a decent farewell.
    I was over the moon when it was announced in 2004 that it was returning under RTD and again when a respected actor, Christopher Eccleston, was to be the new Doctor. I can honestly say that I loved the whole new era of Doctor Who and the actors who played them. I was so overwhelmed by Matt Smith that he soon became my second favourite Doctor after Pat Troughton. All 4 actors to play the doctor would be in my top 7 which isn't bad!
    When it was announced that a female was going to play the Doctor I was excited to see what they would bring to the role. I had seen Jodie Whittaker in many TV dramas and the film Attack the Block. I was pleased again because I liked her work. At the time my wife ( a fan of the show who won a competition back in 1975 and met Tom Baker ) and my WHO friends were not at all happy with the changes, chibnall and Whittaker etc. How I wish I had listened to them.
    I watched the first episode and was so underwhelmed I was in shock! I gave it another 5 episodes before I made a decision not to watch it again. Apart from Poor acting, the scripts being hollow and the current SJW agenda I was embarrassed to be a white straight male viewer as I was constantly told I was either a racist, a bad Dad or just plain evil!
    This is supposed to be a Sci-Fi show not a political broadcast on behalf of the SJW Snowflakes!
    So after over 50 years I am now leaving this show behind with a heavy heart and hope I live long enough to see it return to some normalsey !    … Expand

    The show's never been a paragon of exceptional dialogue but season 11 degrades it to another level - so much so, it left me questioning whether the lead writer was consciously trying to shift the range of appeal to children under the age of 8.

    There’s no overarching season arc (which is fine), though episodic plots were often stale and poorly executed. The desire to fall asleep mid-viewing is mitigated only by the impulsive urge to puke after having to swallow the not-so-subtle nods script writers make to social justice ideological talking points.

    I like the companions Graham and Ryan. Following the pilot, they share a loss which makes the two sympathetic whilst allowing for a nice dynamic between the two to grow over time. They still fall victim to cringe-worthy script however. Jodie Whitaker as the 13th Doctor does not deliver. She brings to the role a demeanour more akin to kindergarten teacher than a Time Lord and lacks any of the gravitas brought by the previous New Who actors.    … Expand

    It saddens me greatly how my (once) favourite Sci-Fi / Fantasy program turned into blatant political propaganda.
    The show no longer convinces with imagination and captivating adventures through time and space; that essential part has been replaced with mundane story telling and shallow characters.

Any critical comment is written off as ignorance and bigotry. The leading actor is now beyond criticism due to their gender, and can do no wrong, while long term fans of the show have been pushed away and defined as toxic.

    If the BBC wants the program to survive beyond the next season they need to take action now, another episode of this poison and the faith of the fans, their customers, will be damaged for ever. I don't know if the actors involved are good enough to carry the show, even if the writing was put right, but the wonderful thing about Doctor Who is that all the cast can be changed at any time, and to coin a phrase it's about time.    … Expand

    Unexciting and overdidactic, narrative by checkboxen. Boring at best, offensive to the intellect at worst. Visuals and soundtrack quite lovely, but shame about the rest. Also -- hard to articulate properly, but it feels as though on some level the show has lost its soul, its mojo.

    Season 11 of Doctor Who is a prime example of what happens when Leftists with a social/political agenda get a hold of an iconic franchise and use it as a soapbox delivery system for everything they believe to be correct. What could have been an opportunity to capitalize on an amazing new shakeup in the form of a female Doctor has descended into SJW madness of the highest caliber, withSeason 11 of Doctor Who is a prime example of what happens when Leftists with a social/political agenda get a hold of an iconic franchise and use it as a soapbox delivery system for everything they believe to be correct. What could have been an opportunity to capitalize on an amazing new shakeup in the form of a female Doctor has descended into SJW madness of the highest caliber, with every single episode acting as a wagging finger in the faces of viewers, reminding them of their personal accountability for everything wrong with society. Doctor Who has descended from a bright, quirky and imaginative science fiction series to a propaganda machine. Pointing this out leads to the obvious retaliatory tactic from folks on the Left: claims of bigotry, racism, misogyny, rinse/repeat. Ironically, the show itself promotes most of these negative labels.

    The massive decline in ratings throughout the season (with no bounce-back, I might add) means that viewer curiosity about the potential for the new Doctor started very strong and optimistic, with hopes quickly dashed throughout the series run. The season began with almost 11 million viewers, indicating that audiences were indeed receptive to seeing a female Doctor in the lead role. Now, that number has plunged to nearly 6 million through the course of less than a dozen episodes. The claim is that ratings are actually up for the first time since Matt Smith's departure as the Doctor, and that's very correct. However, the show has been in a continuous downward slide ever since, which doesn't exactly say much for Season 11's progress.

    The truth is far more simple. The episodes are boring, the characters are flat, the messages are preachy and tiresome, and Jodie Whittaker hasn't made the role her own. A fine actress in her own right, Whittaker is hopelessly out of her element with Doctor Who, taking bits and pieces of previous Doctors (most notably David Tennant) and attempting to craft a familiar motif. That's not how the Doctor works, unfortunately. Each Doctor is absolutely different from the last, which is what made Tom Baker an iconic fan favorite to this very day. Baker once famously stated that netting the role of Doctor Who meant that he could play Tom Baker all day long, and he was 100% right. Whittaker has failed to do this. The blame isn't all on her. Series showrunner Chris Chibnall has done a horrible job of taking the series over from predecessor Steven Moffatt, and used Doctor Who as a propaganda vehicle for the increasingly radicalized-Left BBC, of whom he shares the same ideology. The result are some downright ill-advised episodes such as Rosa, which have undoubtedly alienated a large chunk of U.S. audiences who don't take too kindly to being reminded of past transgressions that they had no part of, to begin with. Every episode is littered with an SJW propaganda message. Suddenly, white males are more villainous than Daleks. White people in general are seemingly all racist. Single white fathers should be shamed, ridiculed and attacked. America is racist. Men should be emasculated at every turn. Male companions are cowardly, dense or incapable, while female companions leap into danger without a thought, and are always the smart leaders.

    This is what Chris Chibnall is trying to tell you.

    Audiences watch Doctor Who for escapism, not to be preached to by radical Leftists who think they are better than everyone else, and openly proclaim it whenever someone points out this uncomfortable truth. As the SJW/P.C. landscape continues to cave in on itself and lose support day after day, it's astonishing to see these outlets double down on truly bad ideas, to the ruin of all. Had Chibnall and the BBC learned a valuable lesson from the destruction of the Star Wars franchise at the hands of Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson, this crisis could have been avoided. We could have had a dynamic, diverse cast of characters following a female Doctor through amazing and fun romps throughout the galaxy. Instead we have an obviously designed cast where all the men are either dimwits, cowards or villains (save one), and all the women are leaping into the fray like superheroes. I've yet to see both happening at once, this Season.

    Recent comments by Jodie Whittaker have done nothing to help matters, either. Instead of using her position to effect some change on the show, she followed suit and directly criticized viewers who are seeing the show for what it has really become. She even remarked that Doctor Who's 50 year history was viewed entirely through the "white male gaze," an astonishingly awful and ignorant thing to say, by any measure! Not a great way to win them over! There's lots of talk of Chibnall and Whittaker leaving the show after either this Season or next, and unless both mend their ways and change their attitudes (unlikely), this will continue to send Doctor Who into a downward spiral, circa 1989 all over again.     Where do I begin on how bad this series was!?! Lets start with the things that were good. The music, Ryan was alright, Graham was brilliant, anddddd………. nope, that's it.
    Writing - Worst of NuWho, so dull, un inspiring, and not engaging to watch at all. So much PC s**t
    Villains - Worst of NuWho, not scary at all, or intimidating whatsoever. Why were so many white men the villain, or made to look bad too??? I know this series is PC and that, but wow. FFS we went from the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Weeping Angels, the Silence, the Sontarons, to a space racist, Stitch, and a f**cking FROG!!!!!!
    Doctor - Worst of NuWho, she just isn't the Doctor, she is terrible. She isn't dark, and I can never take her seriously, omg. The darkest thing she has done is give King James the silent treatment, Oh how dark?!?!?!?!!!! She is shocking, and people need to open their god damn eyes to her s**t.
    Yaz - The most useless, unimportant thing I've ever seen on a TV program. I swear if the Doctor and her start making out and having a relationship, That's it. I'm so done.

    What hurts more is that Jodie didn't take the job because she loved the role, or she is a fan of the show, she took it to be the first woman, so people should deal with it???????

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will update this review if the season gets better, but this is so far not worth watching. I do enjoy watching Jodie as the Doctor. Her characterizations are good, but the writing is awful. Slow, plodding, nonsensical, and just downright lazy. It feels like the pacing of Broadchurch with the wallpaper of Doctor Who pasted on. Nothing but the Doctor, the Tardis, and the Sonic remind us that this is the very show we thought it was.

    There are so many awful moments that really bring me out of this story on so many occasions. In every one of the 5 episodes released so far, scenes where time is very clearly of the essence are brought to a screeching halt by two characters meandering down a hallway expressing things about their past that do not matter to the immediate plot. Moments where comedic timing is completely dropped and we're left wondering if the characters were intending a joke or if we missed something important. Improper pacing all around, poor set up for plot payoffs, and just way too much effort expended on the Graham/Ryan relationship while the Doctor humorlessly runs around doing things and Yaz is entirely useless.

    None of the main cast seems to have true feel for their characters, and it shows. I don't blame them, I blame the writing. With the proper Who writer, we would see this cast shine. But I really don't think we have one.

    And since an over-arching mystery or villain has been soundly rejected by the Chibnall, there doesn't feel like any reason to hang on watching while the cast face one bland, preachy, mindlessly uncomplicated plot after the next. Unambiguous Trumpian analogues plagued by unambiguous ends-punished-the-means analogues, Rosa Parks threatened by a somehow boring futuristic neo-nazi, and two cutthroat racers who seem terribly uninterested to reach the finish line until they do an about face and cross the threshold holding hands together just because of some trite sermon about...something. I mean, I'm a bleeding heart liberal, but this **** is just way over the top.

    My only hope is that we see a change in writers that can bring us the thought-provoking, mind-blowing, and guffaw-inducing Doctor Who we've come to expect and love.    … Expand

When I say a little off what I mean is, it felt like they were acting. It didn't seem to flow naturally. The villain was very generic. I REALLY want to like this Doctor, but she seems be 'acting' like previous Doctors (specifically Tenant). IfI thought the 1st episode was OK. Just OK. I knew it was in trouble when the companions did not remark how it's bigger on the inside then the outside, a horrendous breach of cannon as if the phrase "bigger" was somehow too masculine and therefore to be banished from this series. Another breach of cannon is a constantly confused doctor, It was ok when after regeneration a doctor shows some confusion but my god it's been five episodes and it hasn't subsided yet the companions are just fine with following the confused doctor. When I introduced the series to my wife she was getting seasick trying to follow it but I explained just identify with the companions and let the doctor explain everything and that worked she's now a bigger fan then I am. This formula could have worked with the new doctor but as I said this season is toss everything out and do it "better". Jodie Whittaker is a superb actor who is hamstrung by poor writing and story arch.

Jodie for me unfortunately doesn't feel like The Doctor. She may be energetic and positive but has no sign of 'being the doctor', every other actor before her had that kind of feel, I'm just getting nothing from her. It's almost as if they've gone and written and entirely different show and just stamped Doctor Who on it. The cameras and increased budget is nice to see, but I'd much prefer a lower budget and better stories like the ones before it. 3. The best character by far is Graham who always makes some type of funny comment. All of The Doctor's reactions with the companions seems heavily forced with motivation and 'you can believe in yourself', instead of feeling likes friends I'm stuck thinking The Doctor is now their mother. Yaz has committed nothing to the stories and I don't see the point in having her, Ryan is average with his connected to Graham being the only likeable trait of him. Watching episodes that Chibnall has written previously like 42 in Season four and The Power of Three show reflect the sort of lazy writing and forced positive feel. The stories seem too cluttered with characters that now and then start talking about their past's for ten minutes then continue on like nothing happened. I look at the reviews by critics for the show and wonder if they've ever watched an episode of Doctor Who beforehand. 4. The acting, my god it is terrible. I've watched Jodie Whittaker in other shows such as Black Mirror or Broadchurch where she plays very different characters and wonder if she can properly portray The Doctor's quirkiness. Also, to Chris Chibnall and hopefully not any other writers, you don't have to have 90% of the episode to be exposition, like every character narrates their actions. I was at first excited when they mentioned no old characters as I'm quick sick of seeing Dalek's and Cyber-men but if it means trading them up for a smurf with a tooth fetish, some sentient rags, a cardboard cut-out racist, some mutant spiders and Stitch then this season is going to be very disappointing. They also seem to be forcing the female doctor, it has made no contribution to the story whatsoever and was probably just done in an effort to gain more watchers.… Expand

    I hadn't watched the last few seasons but was curious when I heard from others how bad this was, and they were not wrong. The writing is terrible and just so, so boring, and there's only so many times you can roll your eyes at the clunky and ham-fisted political statements packed into the episodes.

It's similar to what happened to TBBT. I'm not crazy about Foster's interpretation, but it's the writing that is woeful, both in quality and in it's "preachiness".     Just compare Doctor Who series 37/11 to other series, especially in the 'Nu Who' era. For me the: writing, pacing, concepts, continuity, acting, design choices and music in series 37/11 are substandard. It just doesn't have what made it so successful.

    Series 37/11 is a reboot and it feels like half-baked spin-off. Maybe the creative powers that be should indeed create more content? Series 37/11 is not aimed where other series were and where Doctor Who landed. It's apparent Chibnall etc have succeeded in alienating a significant proportion of the worldwide fan base. I need not list other intellectual properties which have gone down a similar path in recent times and have also been significantly rejected. All in all unsustainable and that's the bottom line.

    The show is tragic. It has lost it's magic, it's humor, it's atmosphere. Not because it's a woman this time, but because it's just plain bad. It became more of a political propaganda and absurd drama, then an action, comedy show with deeper meaning soaking through that it has always been. It's sad, because I loved this show, and now I don't know if I'l ever come back to it.

I'm not sure just what the 'expert critics' were looking at but I wanted to say for starters that I like Jodi Whitaker and I think she may have potential but there are elements of this first episode that made it difficult to suspend disbelief, like how the episode ended.     So after watching the 4th episode I'm coming to the conclusion that Mr Chibnall was hired specifically to destroy the Doctor Who franchise because out of all time and space to choose material from he's laser focused on left wing politics and social justice. It would have been easier this week to have simply put a sign on the TARDIS saying I hate Trump and last week it was 'white people are bad'.     as 30 mins long. its like a cheap police procedural now. very low brow and unthinking. more like a haunted house + police procedural. the whole thing is just a gimmick. sad.

    Sadly the quality of the writing this series has been very poor, meaning we still don't know whether Jodie could make a good Doctor or not. Frankly, most episodes have been boring - long chunks of exposition, poor pacing and rushed endings. The overstuffed Tardis hasn't helped matters - you never get the chance to care about any of the characters sufficiently. Rosa was an exception - but even then, the villain of the piece was poorly written with no believable motivation. He was simply a device to allow them to set the episode in that period. Maybe they need to consider the US writing room system if the individual writers are incapable of coming up with good stories and a consistent tone...?… Expand

    Now that we are 6 episodes into the season I believe I can confidently say that Season 11 is a disaster.
    It didn't start out bad, the first episode gave me some hope, but sadly they killed off the best character in it. None of the 3 companions ever do anything remotely helpful. The episodes rarely have any danger, sense of danger or tension. Instead we are given scenes where Graham and Ryan talking about themselves or Yas and Ryan or Graham and Yas with none of them doing anything interesting or helpful to the plot or otherwise. in demons of the Punjab nothing happened and it made no difference if the doctor had come or not. They spend most of the time on a history lesson and none on plot. In the previous episode, they spent most of the time delivering a baby. The monster, if you can call it that, never cause any trouble and in the end was not bad. the doctor jettisoned it out of the airlock and left her Tardis on another planet and we were given no explanation as to how they would get it back. Any tension build up in this episode was ruined by long boring conversations. Here's a suggestion, maybe the monster should have shown up while the baby was coming. That would have been at least a little interesting. Jodie Whitaker is an okay Doctor but lacks that staggering confidence, child like wonder and joy, and also quirkiness one expects from the doctor. Scenes of the ICONIC Tardis are always short, like its a sin to show a time traveling machine in a science fiction show. The Show is preachy in the worst sort of way and politically correct to the point of boredom.
    I have been watching doctor who since the Tom Baker era and was happy they brought it back, but this season is going to the dogs. It's not to late to turn it around, but i'm afraid the rest of the season will only bring more episodes that have no villain's, no plot, no purpose and no tension.    … Expand

    I have watched the first 2 episodes. So far, it isn't bad but does fall into the same mediocre trappings of previous series. The 'monsters' in the second episode, turn out to be old sentient rags. Literally pieces of cloth. They are defeated in an uninspired way, they set up the way to defeat these rags from very early on making it very predictable and when it happens, it turns out to beI have watched the first 2 episodes. In the final moments they face defeat in a very lame way, that is instantly resolved by talking to a villain and then face defeat again in a very predictable way that is resolved by, waiting for a moment and realizing things are not so hopeless. To be fair, this terrible writing is standard fair for Dr Who since 2005 and before.

    The new actor, Jodie Whittaker, is one of my favorite British actresses and has proven herself in other film and TV roles. As the Doctor, so far she is as good as or better than the last few, not quite as impressive as Tennant yet but I hope she is lucky enough to get some quality scripts so that she can put her talents to good use.

    The 'companions'are poorly cast rejects from BBC children's television. For some reason the old White men at the BBC think that a range of ethnicities, a learning difficulty and an old person qualifies as diversity, and being a bit old or having skin that is different to a lot of other people where you live, counts as characterization. There is the obligatory crude attempt at gender politics in which a man and a woman have a race. The woman unsurprisingly wins but chooses to assist the man. The man is stereotypically characterized as a person who smokes cigars and sleeps while the woman feels the need to drop into conversation that she is homosexual for no reason other than checking a diversity box.

    The teaser for episode 3 shows that the Doctor visits Rosa Parks, which is clearly going to be a disaster of an episode. I will watch it, like someone watches a traffic accident, knowing you wont be able to unsee it, knowing nothing good can come of it but oddly interested in how bad it could possibly be.

    I hope that the biggest British SciFi show ever remembers to prioritize the SciFi over preaching this unconvincing social politics. The BBC is an elitist oligarchical institution that clearly doesn't subscribe to the values it tries to placate the subordinate masses with and it shows. Big positives so far are the new design of the TARDIS and all of time and space not being restricted to depicting people and places in present day London. I have hope for this series but not a lot.

    Update: I have now watched the whole series, including the NYE special. I have changed my rating from 7 to 2 because the whole series avoided any decent Sci-Fi stories in favor of pushing a political agenda. Stories invariably included White male villains. The finale was more interested in demonizing fathers more than Daleks. Jodie Whittaker can do so much better. 2 points for 2 positives. 1- there was a Dalek, that was a little bit scary, in the last episode, for a moment or two. 2- It was not as Londoncentric as previous series.    … Expand

    Just another poorly written and gender swapped TV show. It´s so sad to see that the producers achieve to ruin almost EVERY beloved franchise. So, don´t waste your time and watch good old Doctor Who from the 80s instead. My favorite Doctor is and always will be Sylvester McCoy. Period :)

    Sadly, everything I loved about Dr Who died when Jodie Whittaker stepped into the Tardis. Shes a great actress and could have been top 3 Doctors, but the writing has let this character down.
    Preachy, overly political, stealing from other sci fi (planet of the apes, Star Trek,), too many companions, trying too hard with 'quirks'.
    Hope it improves, viewers are leaving in droves.

Ryan and Graham are the lone highlights here, Yaz is a forgettable fourth wheel who in all honesty didn't even need to be in the show. The problem with this theory is that the vast majority of reviews here are well-reasoned, and clearly very human. I would now like to add my own thoughts to the mix.

    My wife and I are long-term Doctor Who fans. We have a massive Classic Who DVD collection, we've watched every New Who episode multiple times, we made two 'pilgrimages' to the DW experience in Cardiff - we even had a TARDIS at our wedding! And yet, Doctor Who Series 11 was a massive disappointment.

    The pro's:
    [a] The main theme is very well done - with nods to the classic era, and a meaty dubsteo feel, it works very well. (Especially when the doctor smashed through the train in the first episode, and we got our first taste of it.)
    [b] Bradley Walsh is very good - he should have either been cast as the doctor, or made the only companion.
    [c] The cinematography is ok - not great, but decent.

    ... And that's it. I honestly can't think of a single other positive. The con's:
    [A] Jodie Whitaker is horribly miscast. I'm not intrinsically opposed to the doctor being a woman, but the decision should have been narrativally justified, and not just thrust upon the audience. In any case, there are better female actors for the role - Olivia Coleman, for example. Jodie's performances are horrendously ill-judged, feeling like a pastiche of Matt Smith and David Tennant's wackier (and more irritating) moments. Her physicality is exaggerated, and her humour falls flat.
    [B] There are simply too many companions, two of whom are utterly forgettable. Tosin Cole's acting is also dreadful at times.
    [C] The TARDIS set is abysmal. Absolutely awful, the worst I've ever seen.
    [D] The ambient music is repetitive and nowhere near epic enough. The sombre, more low-key feels works occasionally, but for the majority of the time it simply doesn't fit what we're watching.
    [E] There is simply no connection to the show's 55 year history - almost no mythology, apart from cringeworthy 'banter-ish' moments in which Chibnall sought to imitate Moffat's throwaway lines about the Doctor's wacky anecdotes. It's as if he doesn't care about the history, and it shows.
    [F] The choice of a female doctor was simply NOT well-established - it was not justififed in the context of the mythology, or in the context of the narrative. It comes off as cheap pointscoring, yet another victim of the political machinations of the BBC.
    [G] The editing is often very poor, and the pacing is unbelievably dull. My wife and I were bored during many episodes. Whereas in previous seasons we would have arrived at the main thrust of any given story or action setpiece, in this season we spend ages being given unnecessary details, or being shown rather uninteresting locales.
    [H] The aliens are unimaginative, and the enemies are not at all menacing. Most of the time, they're just straight white men. (A space racist? REALLY?!)

    In short, this season is a failure. There are some bright moments, but they are few, and nowhere near bright enough. Doctor Who S11 was an experiment, and it has failed.    … Expand

    Please give us back Matt Smith or David Tenant or Peter Capaldi. Heck, bring them back as producers/directors. Or keep Jodie Whittaker, but ditch the writers for this season. Bring back the writers for any of the top three Doctors. This season felt like Goonies, and not in a good way. It was not the Dr. Who that I fell in love with when David Tenant began.

    A lazily written random collection of poorly executed over acted doctor who parody episodes that feel like it was written my PC children with no respect for the original material. There are droves of female actors who could do The doctor justice. Jodie Whittaker is not one of them. Very sad to see such a good show take such a poor turn.

    The companions seem to have very little awe and fear and amazement when it comes to encountering the impossibilities of time travel and extraterrestrial life for the first time.
    Meanwhile The Doctor has lost a lot of initiative. The fire went out. There’s less brazen in-control gusto, and more self-doubt.

    Cosmetically, the lighting and cinematography is cold, uninviting, and more befitting of a crime series. Focused on emotion not action. And the music scores are over-simplified, somber, and unremarkable.    … Expand

    Jodie Whittaker did fine job in acting but whole show feels like a political statement on topics I actually don't give a **** about. I don't watch DOCTOR WHO for education about history nor some political agenda. What I want from Doctor Who is a fun journey with good twists and even better imagination.

    This season is just dreadful, a lot of this is down to the bad writing but Jodie Whittaker can't be considered blameless in this either, a good doctor can make even bad writing bearable to watch, many of Peter Capaldi's episodes had terrible writing but we're still great because of his incredible performance as The Doctor.

    I remember before when someone died in episode how Doctor was sad (not only actor emotion but script wise, they kinda give place for faraway) i just cried like baby. I believed.

    What a disgrace. This happens when you sacrifice good writing for toxic feminism and identity politics, just as an arbitrary tool without making any sense in the context of the universe others have built. Just draw the men as weak and whimsy, the women strong, powerful and superior, so you can expect the appropriate "professional reviews". Good writing doesn't matter.

After watching the first 4 episodes i could not handle the unapologetic disregard for what this show truly stands for, and the narrow minded writing that cripples who we really are as a society with the unadulterated virtue signaling theme.

    So far this has been AWFUL. I could hardly watch episode 2, I found my phone more interesting. The worst part is the music, it just gives it no positive vibe at all. it feels horrible. the writing and direction are really bad too. This is not doctor who.

    All in all, “The Woman Who Fell To Earth” succeeds as a statement of intent for this brand new era of Doctor Who, telling us that it’s going to be easily accessible, gorgeous to look at and listen to, all about the character drama and brought to life with a lead actress who has a lot of energy. In terms of comparing it to past Who, it’s not a flawless season opener, but it does a terrific job of making us excited for the rest of Doctor No. 13’s tenure.

    Goofy and curious, commanding and contemplative, Thirteen is already well on her way to demonstrating the complex emotional makeup that is the Doctor. She also demonstrates a cheerful, can-do spirit. ... With the exception of Tim Shaw’s unappealing self, very little about the episode feels Whovian. Gone is former showrunner Steven Moffat’s sense of play, both in the verbal sparring and convoluted storytelling.

    The premiere episode here, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth,” reminded me, more than anything, of “The X-Files,” when it was really good. It takes you back to the days when Doctor Who was a fun sci-fi procedural. ... [The alien] resembles some gleaming villain out of a Marvel movie, which makes his blokey name, Tim Shaw, even more incongruously funny. This is Doctor Who at its best--nerdy and chilling and quick with a joke. And, most significantly of all, generous of spirit, a quality that simply shimmers off Whittaker.
