    So far this has been AWFUL. I could hardly watch episode 2, I found my phone more interesting. The worst part is the music, it just gives it no positive vibe at all. it feels horrible. the writing and direction are really bad too. This is not doctor who.

    Worst series in the revival. Look, Jodie Whittaker is a great actress, but she was only made the doctor for woke reasons, which is disappointing. Now, series 11 wasn't bad because of Jodie, no, it was bad because of Chris Chibnall's bad writing. He clearly can't write screenplay. I will give him credit for Rosa, the arachnids in Sheffield and Demons of Punjab, however, because thoseWorst series in the revival.     What a disgrace. This happens when you sacrifice good writing for toxic feminism and identity politics, just as an arbitrary tool without making any sense in the context of the universe others have built. Just draw the men as weak and whimsy, the women strong, powerful and superior, so you can expect the appropriate "professional reviews". Good writing doesn't matter.

    Whittaker's Doctor is borderline insufferable and plays the character in a rather stoic way, similar to Davison in a way. Chibnall's inability to develop characters and give them a proper arc is a huge downside as well. Ryan and Graham are the lone highlights here, Yaz is a forgettable fourth wheel who in all honesty didn't even need to be in the show.     Too woke, and force feeds a devices narrative that is not Doctor WHO. After watching the first 4 episodes i could not handle the unapologetic disregard for what this show truly stands for, and the narrow minded writing that cripples who we really are as a society with the unadulterated virtue signaling theme.

    It so sad that this happened to TV Show.

    Before it was movie with a soul. Something bigger than adventure movie. It was something that teach as to be a better human. There was a blue box which takes you to not where you want but where you needed to be. There was doctor who was helping and fight for everyone even for those who was kinda bad 'characters'.     I didn't wanna judge on one episode ( 11-12season) and I saw every episode waiting when I see real Doctor Who.

    plz just give Doctor soul back, not just legs to run and head to solve a puzzle. But soul to leave.

    I remember before when someone died in episode how Doctor was sad (not only actor emotion but script wise, they kinda give place for faraway) i just cried like baby. I believed.

    Jodie Whittaker did fine job in acting but whole show feels like a political statement on topics I actually don't give a **** about. I don't watch DOCTOR WHO for education about history nor some political agenda. What I want from Doctor Who is a fun journey with good twists and even better imagination.

    This season is just dreadful, a lot of this is down to the bad writing but Jodie Whittaker can't be considered blameless in this either, a good doctor can make even bad writing bearable to watch, many of Peter Capaldi's episodes had terrible writing but we're still great because of his incredible performance as The Doctor.

    Sadly, everything I loved about Dr Who died when Jodie Whittaker stepped into the Tardis. Shes a great actress and could have been top 3 Doctors, but the writing has let this character down.
    Preachy, overly political, stealing from other sci fi (planet of the apes, Star Trek,), too many companions, trying too hard with 'quirks'.
    Hope it improves, viewers are leaving in droves.

    The companions seem to have very little awe and fear and amazement when it comes to encountering the impossibilities of time travel and extraterrestrial life for the first time.
    Meanwhile The Doctor has lost a lot of initiative. The fire went out. There’s less brazen in-control gusto, and more self-doubt.

    Cosmetically, the lighting and cinematography is cold, uninviting, and more befitting of a crime series. Focused on emotion not action. And the music scores are over-simplified, somber, and unremarkable.    … Expand

    It could pass as a dr who spin off, although even that is a stretch. I dont understand the purpose of this show. As a long time Dr Who fan this series represents the end of dr who for me personally. I cant stomach it.     Chris Chibnall’s Doctor Who is unfortunately a complete bore. Jodie Whitaker is devoid of personality, the side characters are underdeveloped, the storylines are too linear, and the series' use of politics can sometimes feel unnecessarily heavy handed.

Frankly, most episodes have been boring - long chunks of exposition, poor pacing and rushed endings. The overstuffed Tardis hasn't helped matters - you never get the chance to care about any of the characters sufficiently. Rosa was an exception - but even then, the villain of the piece was poorly written with no believable motivation. He was simply a device to allow them to set the episode in that period. Maybe they need to consider the US writing room system if the individual writers are incapable of coming up with good stories and a consistent tone...?… Expand

    A lazily written random collection of poorly executed over acted doctor who parody episodes that feel like it was written my PC children with no respect for the original material. There are droves of female actors who could do The doctor justice. Jodie Whittaker is not one of them. Very sad to see such a good show take such a poor turn.

    Please give us back Matt Smith or David Tenant or Peter Capaldi. Heck, bring them back as producers/directors. Or keep Jodie Whittaker, but ditch the writers for this season. Bring back the writers for any of the top three Doctors. This season felt like Goonies, and not in a good way. It was not the Dr. Who that I fell in love with when David Tenant began.

    Just another poorly written and gender swapped TV show. It´s so sad to see that the producers achieve to ruin almost EVERY beloved franchise. So, don´t waste your time and watch good old Doctor Who from the 80s instead. My favorite Doctor is and always will be Sylvester McCoy. Period :)

    Now that we are 6 episodes into the season I believe I can confidently say that Season 11 is a disaster.
    It didn't start out bad, the first episode gave me some hope, but sadly they killed off the best character in it. None of the 3 companions ever do anything remotely helpful. The episodes rarely have any danger, sense of danger or tension. Instead we are given scenes where Graham and Ryan talking about themselves or Yas and Ryan or Graham and Yas with none of them doing anything interesting or helpful to the plot or otherwise. in demons of the Punjab nothing happened and it made no difference if the doctor had come or not. They spend most of the time on a history lesson and none on plot. In the previous episode, they spent most of the time delivering a baby. The monster, if you can call it that, never cause any trouble and in the end was not bad. the doctor jettisoned it out of the airlock and left her Tardis on another planet and we were given no explanation as to how they would get it back. Any tension build up in this episode was ruined by long boring conversations. Here's a suggestion, maybe the monster should have shown up while the baby was coming. That would have been at least a little interesting. Jodie Whitaker is an okay Doctor but lacks that staggering confidence, child like wonder and joy, and also quirkiness one expects from the doctor. Scenes of the ICONIC Tardis are always short, like its a sin to show a time traveling machine in a science fiction show. The Show is preachy in the worst sort of way and politically correct to the point of boredom.
    I have been watching doctor who since the Tom Baker era and was happy they brought it back, but this season is going to the dogs. It's not to late to turn it around, but i'm afraid the rest of the season will only bring more episodes that have no villain's, no plot, no purpose and no tension.    … Expand

    Season 11 is very poorly written and possesses no meta-narrative to hold the season together. The characters are wooden and unmemorable as are the vast majority of the episodes. It is just fine for the Doctor to be female, but the way she is written and portrayed does not feel like the beloved Doctor of every other season that precedes this one. Very disappointing.

    The show is tragic. It has lost it's magic, it's humor, it's atmosphere. Not because it's a woman this time, but because it's just plain bad. It became more of a political propaganda and absurd drama, then an action, comedy show with deeper meaning soaking through that it has always been. It's sad, because I loved this show, and now I don't know if I'l ever come back to it.

    As a member of the public who has seen every episode of Doctor Who from classic up until just before the release of series 11 I believe I can call myself a true Whovian.

    With this I would like to say I had a high hope that with the new Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) coming on board, there may be a new breath of life added to the show. I was right and I was wrong. There was a new breath of    As a member of the public who has seen every episode of Doctor Who from classic up until just before the release of series 11 I believe I can call myself a true Whovian.

    With this I would like to say I had a high hope that with the new Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) coming on board, there may be a new breath of life added to the show. I was right and I was wrong. There was a new breath of life but not the life I was expecting.

    This series has taken such a nose dive from being a great program to a program filled with identity politics, bad acting and bad writing. The only good actor in the whole series was Bradley Walsh. The rest of the "Friends" as they are now called :-/ feel like they are added just for effect and quite frankly get in the way.

    As for Jodie, this doctor has not made me feel in any way like she is the doctor. All her predecessors have given you a wow factor within the first to second episode to promote and to state they are the doctor, they do it with such conviction that you feel it.

    David did it when he exited the TARDIS on the spaceship over London during his first episode, Capaldi did it when he looked up at the camera after throwing the cyborg from the restaurant in Deep Breath, Matt did it when he confronted the Atraxi and the list goes on. There was only one part of dialogue which could of made Jodie feel like the Doctor and that was in the New Years Special when she confronted the Dalek, she even messed that up as it felt so wooden.

    This took a whole series to even remotely make people feel she was the doctor and even that was not done right. The only time there was any fire in Jodie (sorry cannot bring myself to say the Doctor) is when she was staring down men and giving them a good scalding.

    The writing was extremely poor and so driven to identity politics that it completely missed the mark on what the show was all about to begin with in the first place, entertainment; a means for people to escape the woe of everyday life. I sincerely hope that series 12 is better with better writing and Jodie putting a bit more effort into her role, when I say effort I am not referring to the scrunch face she makes which makes her look constipated every time she does it.

    On a side note as well there has been a lot of attacks aimed at true fans from the writers and from Jodie herself, this is not on.    … Expand

We just get a horrible display of David & Matt's version mashed together with 3rd wave feminist to get someone with no clue what she's doing except to try and imitate what she's seen in some rushed viewing of a couple 10th/11th Dr episodes, thus giving us this train wreck that's probably killed the show.....

The truth is, the Doctor spent a long time coping with the fact that he had become old and grey-haired in season 8. He had a whole identity crisis! And when he becomes a woman it's only a passing thought? I don't like this blindness towards gender. I wanted a bigger acknowledgement of it. What does it mean? How does the Doctor cope with this? How is his identity affected? He's been male for thousands of years! I wanted to see more development and acknowledgment of this transformation. At least mention what will become of his alias John Smith... Part of the problem was that the Doctor wasn't given enough screen time and development.
    Also, I didn't find this Doctor very inspiring. Her speeches were not as poignant as Capaldi's or Matt Smith's: her character was written more like a bubbly superhero rather than The Doctor. I wanted to see her age, her past, the extent of her emotions. She just seemed so goofy without any gravitas.
    Also, I don't feel like the Doctor is as attached to her companions as she was with Amy or Clara or Donna. It seems like they're all pals but not best friends. I know there's more companions so its harder to have a one-on-one relationship, but I don't see the friendship as much. They are not asking enough questions about each other. It seems like the companions don't really ask The Doctor that many questions about her past or anything (Idk, though I didn't rewatch any episodes and I didn't watch the finale). If the episodes had had a connecting arch, maybe there would be more attachment between characters. I didn't like how each episode stood alone. They were all so skippable and I wouldn't rewatch any like I rewatch Russell T. Davis and Moffat.
    I really disliked the Spiders episode. It was so obvious what it was about, but there was no nuance or depth to the statement. Not like Zygon Inversion with Capaldi's emotional speech. Everything seemed really idealistic without depth and therefore it wasn't inspirational.
    Finally, I really hated the Tardis design. It was not homy or fun. It looked heavy and not like the Tardis we love. In short, very few things about this new season feel like Doctor Who... :( They feel like any other time traveling show.    … Expand

    The only issue with the show is the change in storytelling, not much over-arcing this season and the flat story arc for the characters. There are three companions for f sake do something with them. if you're looking for a doctor to make you want to journey with them into a beautiful universe, this season ain't it

    I would give a 1 for the cinematic image of this 11th season, but no, it doesn't even deserve it.

    Im severe but i still love the show and i know this is just a bad moment, it will be good again someday, maybe after a second cancellation and a couple of decades, like they did the first time, because, lucky us, the Doctor is virtually immortal, yay !

The first episode starts the series as it means to continue, that is with weak writing and weak plots. For some reason a race of galactic conquerors choose to visit Earth every seven years to send a potential Leader. Let that set it. Big evil, nasty monsters. That need permission to visit apparently. The blue blob in the woods was somehow moved by two blokes and a van, but we know the nearest road is significantly far away and is moved from A to B in a blink of an eye. If anyone needs a man and a Van, you know who to hire. But I digress. Yes the leader of the Big Bad comes to earth and steals children's teeth. The big evil is just a bad tooth fairy. The doctor is running about confused, as is normal for a regen episode, but it lacks the feel of Doctor Who, and slightly more Famous Five.

    Unfortunately the rest of the series sticks to the same formula. A confused Doctor who needs consistent help in remembering things. The series suffers from a lot of 'telling' rather than 'showing'. The second episode we are told of the dangerous planet but don't really see much of it. We are told of the flesh eating water, but once they are all on the boat it's just any other day. The odd psychic bandages and the sniper bots (who obvious attended "The Imperial Stormtrooper Academy Of Shooting" as they don't really pose any danger, regardless of the characters running about.

    It goes on and on like this, standing in a giant cavern with toxic chemicals and noxious fumes our brave souls remark briefly about the toxic fumes and agree it's all very toxic but have a look at what they are doing. Nothing. Standing there. No coughs, no red or water eyes, nothing wrong with the air going by their acting. The Doctor letting the spiders starve to death? After trying to work out what they can use to cause vibrations to attract the spiders, she is scanning all over the place. With a Sonic Screwdriver. Sonic, as in it makes a noise, as it it causes vibrations.

    By the end of this series I have no idea who this Doctor is meant to be. She has had no real villains to face, no moral dilemma, just a sad, lonely, idiot of a Time Lord who really should have done better.    … Expand

I've loved its fast pace, its adventure, its fantasy, whimsy and comedic elements. Up until 2018 this series was, for me, must-see TV. But sad to say, Season 11 has come dangerously close to killing the beloved franchise altogether. Now we have a woefully miscast Doctor---played by Jodie Whittaker, who doesn't seem to understand what her character is really all about! The problem isn't her gender change, it's her un-Doctor-like personality and behavior. Whittaker's Doctor is no longer the fun, quirky hero who saves lives. Rather, she has been transformed into a PC schoolteacher herding her "pupils" from one learning experience to the next. What transpires are dull and preachy storylines, poorly conceived and having no purpose whatsoever beyond the in-your-face social messaging. How something once so brilliant as Doctor Who can have devolved, in just 11 episodes, into utter banality is the real tragedy here. I'm rating Season 11 a 2 out of 10, and IMO that's being generous!… Expand

    If the BBC wants the program to survive beyond the next season they need to take action now, another episode of this poison and the faith of the fans, their customers, will be damaged for ever. I don't know if the actors involved are good enough to carry the show, even if the writing was put right, but the wonderful thing about Doctor Who is that all the cast can be changed at any time, and to coin a phrase it's about time.    … Expand

    It seems that the story and characters have been put on the sideline in favour of "wokeness" or being Politically correct... forcefully so.

    As a white hetrosexual English man I really feel that this new season is against people like me. I am seemingly at fault for the worlds problems.

Rather than showing a strong, intelligent, and complex Doctor, with 2,000 years of life and experience under her belt, Chris Chibnall gave use a Doctor who was flighty and mostly inconsequential within her own stories. Worse yet, he made the Doctor so much of a pacifist that she is making morally questionable decisions, as she did in the finale by placing Tzim-Sha in solitary confinement for eternity. I have been a fan of Doctor Who for 40 years. I love classic Who and new Who. But, this season was complete garbage. It needs to be fixed.… Expand

I was so hopeful that a new show runner and cast would reinvigorate the show. Unfortunately, this season was a huge disappointment. I like the cast and I actually like it when there are multiple companions, so I don't have a problem with that. The production values were decent, but I disliked so many of the decisions. Right from the start... at the end of the Capaldi era we get this big cliff-hanger...oh no! The Doctor has fallen out of the TARDIS and is plummeting towards earth, how dramatic! What is going to happen? Well, nothing. The Fourth Doctor falls off of a radio tower and dies, but this doctor falls from outside the atmosphere, then just pops up. Drama destroyed. I don't like the new theme. I don't like the new intro. Episode 1 is predator but this guy hunts a pathetic weakling with an anxiety disorder. Absolutely zero peril. Hardly any science fiction. Amazon with robots? Really? Spiders, otherwise creepy and cool, march miles to conveniently go into a vault to starve cause they play some EDM music? Lame. I could go on and on and may revise this review but I want to make one thing clear...BBC, this was a disaster. This is what we waited so long for, and now you want us to wait for another 18 months? Get real. Seasons should be every year and Chibnall must go.

    BTW, Jodi is not exceptional but quite solid and the SWJ themes are oppressive at times but my dislike isn't about a woman doctor or diversity, it is about crap writing, scoring and directing.    … Expand

To be fair, this terrible writing is standard fair for Dr Who since 2005 and before.

    The new actor, Jodie Whittaker, is one of my favorite British actresses and has proven herself in other film and TV roles. As the Doctor, so far she is as good as or better than the last few, not quite as impressive as Tennant yet but I hope she is lucky enough to get some quality scripts so that she can put her talents to good use.

    The 'companions'are poorly cast rejects from BBC children's television. For some reason the old White men at the BBC think that a range of ethnicities, a learning difficulty and an old person qualifies as diversity, and being a bit old or having skin that is different to a lot of other people where you live, counts as characterization. There is the obligatory crude attempt at gender politics in which a man and a woman have a race. The woman unsurprisingly wins but chooses to assist the man. The man is stereotypically characterized as a person who smokes cigars and sleeps while the woman feels the need to drop into conversation that she is homosexual for no reason other than checking a diversity box.

    The teaser for episode 3 shows that the Doctor visits Rosa Parks, which is clearly going to be a disaster of an episode. I will watch it, like someone watches a traffic accident, knowing you wont be able to unsee it, knowing nothing good can come of it but oddly interested in how bad it could possibly be.

    I hope that the biggest British SciFi show ever remembers to prioritize the SciFi over preaching this unconvincing social politics. The BBC is an elitist oligarchical institution that clearly doesn't subscribe to the values it tries to placate the subordinate masses with and it shows. Big positives so far are the new design of the TARDIS and all of time and space not being restricted to depicting people and places in present day London. I have hope for this series but not a lot.

    Update: I have now watched the whole series, including the NYE special. I have changed my rating from 7 to 2 because the whole series avoided any decent Sci-Fi stories in favor of pushing a political agenda. Stories invariably included White male villains. The finale was more interested in demonizing fathers more than Daleks. Jodie Whittaker can do so much better. 2 points for 2 positives. 1- there was a Dalek, that was a little bit scary, in the last episode, for a moment or two. 2- It was not as Londoncentric as previous series.    … Expand

While her work in series 11 of Doctor Who is the worst I've seen from her (she has no real presence, pulls stupid faces and generally acts as if the Doctor's brain has been switched for that of an excitable puppy), it's the utterly atrocious writing that is the biggest problem. First, the new head writer and main creative force behind a show should never be the person who wrote the worst episodes of the previous showrunner's tenure. Second, call me stupid, but, I would have thought that, if you're working on a sci-fi show, it would be desirable, if not completely essential for everyone in your writer's room to have some experience of writing for the genre instead of just the showrunner and one other, but that;'s what we were given.

    Third and lastly, but by no means least, is the far-left, new-wave feminist and gender politics agenda. Now, there are people who say that Doctor Who has always been political. While it would be dishonest to contradict that, it would be honest to say that the audience wasn't ever smacked under the chin with politics, so to speak, as it definitely was in the latest series.

    It's clear to see that audiences have been turned off by the ham-fisted, crowbarring-in of political correctness. There are numerous examples of discriminatory language and sentiments that crop up in the latest series, including racist, misandrist and anti-capitalist sentiments.

    To sum up, then, everything in series 11 either outrageously below par or utterly toxic in terms of attitude, and, what's worse, we're told that there is going to be more of the same in 2020 for series 12. That means, I'm afraid to say, that the minds behind Doctor Who are prepared to kill one of my favourite shows, and that makes me really sad.    … Expand

    Just compare Doctor Who series 37/11 to other series, especially in the 'Nu Who' era. For me the: writing, pacing, concepts, continuity, acting, design choices and music in series 37/11 are substandard. It just doesn't have what made it so successful.

    Series 37/11 is a reboot and it feels like half-baked spin-off. Maybe the creative powers that be should indeed create more content? Series 37/11 is not aimed where other series were and where Doctor Who landed. It's apparent Chibnall etc have succeeded in alienating a significant proportion of the worldwide fan base. I need not list other intellectual properties which have gone down a similar path in recent times and have also been significantly rejected. All in all unsustainable and that's the bottom line.

    The show's never been a paragon of exceptional dialogue but season 11 degrades it to another level - so much so, it left me questioning whether the lead writer was consciously trying to shift the range of appeal to children under the age of 8.

    There’s no overarching season arc (which is fine), though episodic plots were often stale and poorly executed. The desire to fall asleep mid-viewing is mitigated only by the impulsive urge to puke after having to swallow the not-so-subtle nods script writers make to social justice ideological talking points.

    I like the companions Graham and Ryan. Following the pilot, they share a loss which makes the two sympathetic whilst allowing for a nice dynamic between the two to grow over time. They still fall victim to cringe-worthy script however. Jodie Whitaker as the 13th Doctor does not deliver. She brings to the role a demeanour more akin to kindergarten teacher than a Time Lord and lacks any of the gravitas brought by the previous New Who actors.    … Expand

The new years special left a lot to be desired with boring story lines, too much focus of the companions rather than the sci-fi nature of the show, not even a dalek could save the episode. Also the choice to wipe out the legacy of previous series with events such as the close of unit is unjust and stupid when this has been a long running part of the show. The writing is ruining any chance the first female doctor has to be a good doctor and I hope for a regeneration or change of writer soon or maybe even a hiatus so the producers can re-evaluate what they actually want to write about. The show lacks ongoing themes like in previous series with River Song, Bad Wolf and the crack in the bedroom wall and none of the aliens in the series have thrilled. The doctor has also stood around too much observing events with no reckless behaviour as shown in previous doctors and every time the doctor goes to do anything she explains it first which is boring and unnecessary when other doctors have taken control of the situation and got on with it. The companions act like they are dumb and both the characters of Graham and Ryan are particularly wooden with Bradley Walsh not even being an actor in the first place. The show is watchable but lacks the nature of its former self. I do not recommend.… Expand

    I have been a fan of Doctor Who for over 50 years. MY Doctor as they say is Patrick Troughton although I remember Hartnell in the role. There were some poor years in my opinion, especially in the 80's when I only just managed to hold on for the ride as the scripts and actors weren't the best. However when it disappeared from our screen in 1989 I did start to miss the show. We were lucky inI have been a fan of Doctor Who for over 50 years. We were lucky in as much as we were starting to find missing episodes and then Big Finish stepped in to carry on the storytelling. I enjoyed the Film despite the Half Human quote but at least it gave Sylvester McCoy a decent farewell.
    I was over the moon when it was announced in 2004 that it was returning under RTD and again when a respected actor, Christopher Eccleston, was to be the new Doctor. I can honestly say that I loved the whole new era of Doctor Who and the actors who played them. I was so overwhelmed by Matt Smith that he soon became my second favourite Doctor after Pat Troughton. All 4 actors to play the doctor would be in my top 7 which isn't bad!
    When it was announced that a female was going to play the Doctor I was excited to see what they would bring to the role. I had seen Jodie Whittaker in many TV dramas and the film Attack the Block. I was pleased again because I liked her work. At the time my wife ( a fan of the show who won a competition back in 1975 and met Tom Baker ) and my WHO friends were not at all happy with the changes, chibnall and Whittaker etc. How I wish I had listened to them.
    I watched the first episode and was so underwhelmed I was in shock! I gave it another 5 episodes before I made a decision not to watch it again. Apart from Poor acting, the scripts being hollow and the current SJW agenda I was embarrassed to be a white straight male viewer as I was constantly told I was either a racist, a bad Dad or just plain evil!
    This is supposed to be a Sci-Fi show not a political broadcast on behalf of the SJW Snowflakes!
    So after over 50 years I am now leaving this show behind with a heavy heart and hope I live long enough to see it return to some normalsey !    … Expand

    In every season of Doctor Who, I had those moments where I was seriously baffled, shocked, tense and just ENTERTAINED. This season had NO SINGLE moment like this. I do not know if it's the new filming style, the actors, the accents or just the completely different atmosphere, but I know one thing for sure: This season ruined everything for me.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well I stuck it to the bitter end and no the season didn't improve, terrible from start to finish, but that won't stop the BBC claiming my viewing as proof that viewing figures are the best every.
    Like many I welcomed the first female doctor, but sadly Whittaker was given an impossible mission to rescue the poor scripts, limited character development and amateurish directing. That latter point seems to be missed by many, when you see the doctor look into a tank that we're told is filled with decaying human corpses and her reaction is rather less emotional than staring into a cup of tea you have to point the finger straight at the director for not retaking it. This was played out over and over again throughout the season, Whittaker must be dismayed how amateurish this has made her look.
    Sci-fi is always full of holes requiring major suspension of disbelief but this series is the most challenging ever even for loyal fans like myself. The writer just couldn't be bothered to make any attempt at continuity or credibility. It started in the first scene of the first episode when she fell from space onto a train and just stood up and brushed herself down like superwoman. Minutes later Whittaker is tasked with making us believe she's afraid of falling off a crane! The final straw for me is that the writer has done what all previous writers managed to resist, at least some degree, and turned the sonic screwdriver into a magic wand pure and simple, too much Harry Potter.
    Just give up BBC and put this tripe on CBBC where it belongs.    … Expand

Such a disappointment and a let down, we have seen some brilliant strong female characters in recent years so an amazing opportunity for a fabulous female doctor but instead we got aI'm a huge Dr Who fan, but this series suffered from very poor writing, awful plots and no dramatic music, no sense of peril and not even the slightest need for even a child to hide behind the sofa.     Dont get me wrong, i had no problem with the Doctor being a woman, i expected this season to be a pleasant difference, as i was used to always be pleasantly surprised by every new incarnation.

What could have been an opportunity to capitalize on an amazing new shakeup in the form of a female Doctor has descended into SJW madness of the highest caliber, withSeason 11 of Doctor Who is a prime example of what happens when Leftists with a social/political agenda get a hold of an iconic franchise and use it as a soapbox delivery system for everything they believe to be correct. What could have been an opportunity to capitalize on an amazing new shakeup in the form of a female Doctor has descended into SJW madness of the highest caliber, with every single episode acting as a wagging finger in the faces of viewers, reminding them of their personal accountability for everything wrong with society. Doctor Who has descended from a bright, quirky and imaginative science fiction series to a propaganda machine. Pointing this out leads to the obvious retaliatory tactic from folks on the Left: claims of bigotry, racism, misogyny, rinse/repeat. Ironically, the show itself promotes most of these negative labels.

    The massive decline in ratings throughout the season (with no bounce-back, I might add) means that viewer curiosity about the potential for the new Doctor started very strong and optimistic, with hopes quickly dashed throughout the series run. The season began with almost 11 million viewers, indicating that audiences were indeed receptive to seeing a female Doctor in the lead role. Now, that number has plunged to nearly 6 million through the course of less than a dozen episodes. The claim is that ratings are actually up for the first time since Matt Smith's departure as the Doctor, and that's very correct. However, the show has been in a continuous downward slide ever since, which doesn't exactly say much for Season 11's progress.

    The truth is far more simple. The episodes are boring, the characters are flat, the messages are preachy and tiresome, and Jodie Whittaker hasn't made the role her own. A fine actress in her own right, Whittaker is hopelessly out of her element with Doctor Who, taking bits and pieces of previous Doctors (most notably David Tennant) and attempting to craft a familiar motif. That's not how the Doctor works, unfortunately. Each Doctor is absolutely different from the last, which is what made Tom Baker an iconic fan favorite to this very day. Baker once famously stated that netting the role of Doctor Who meant that he could play Tom Baker all day long, and he was 100% right. Whittaker has failed to do this. The blame isn't all on her. Series showrunner Chris Chibnall has done a horrible job of taking the series over from predecessor Steven Moffatt, and used Doctor Who as a propaganda vehicle for the increasingly radicalized-Left BBC, of whom he shares the same ideology. The result are some downright ill-advised episodes such as Rosa, which have undoubtedly alienated a large chunk of U.S. audiences who don't take too kindly to being reminded of past transgressions that they had no part of, to begin with. Every episode is littered with an SJW propaganda message. Suddenly, white males are more villainous than Daleks. White people in general are seemingly all racist. Single white fathers should be shamed, ridiculed and attacked. America is racist. Men should be emasculated at every turn. Male companions are cowardly, dense or incapable, while female companions leap into danger without a thought, and are always the smart leaders.

    This is what Chris Chibnall is trying to tell you.

    Audiences watch Doctor Who for escapism, not to be preached to by radical Leftists who think they are better than everyone else, and openly proclaim it whenever someone points out this uncomfortable truth. As the SJW/P.C. landscape continues to cave in on itself and lose support day after day, it's astonishing to see these outlets double down on truly bad ideas, to the ruin of all. Had Chibnall and the BBC learned a valuable lesson from the destruction of the Star Wars franchise at the hands of Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson, this crisis could have been avoided. We could have had a dynamic, diverse cast of characters following a female Doctor through amazing and fun romps throughout the galaxy. Instead we have an obviously designed cast where all the men are either dimwits, cowards or villains (save one), and all the women are leaping into the fray like superheroes. I've yet to see both happening at once, this Season.

    Recent comments by Jodie Whittaker have done nothing to help matters, either. Instead of using her position to effect some change on the show, she followed suit and directly criticized viewers who are seeing the show for what it has really become. She even remarked that Doctor Who's 50 year history was viewed entirely through the "white male gaze," an astonishingly awful and ignorant thing to say, by any measure! Not a great way to win them over! There's lots of talk of Chibnall and Whittaker leaving the show after either this Season or next, and unless both mend their ways and change their attitudes (unlikely), this will continue to send Doctor Who into a downward spiral, circa 1989 all over again.     The show is full of dialog and over explanation and lectures and 0 build up on any episode. Back to the writers desk...... please ;)........ the shows just meh now not worth watching. The only saving grace in the show was ryan and grahams slight character development and interactions. Why were Litterally all the villians not actually villians except for the racist white guy.

    There are some serious issues with cinematography and cutting all over the place, taking the pacing completely out of some scenes, even to the point where they couldn't be bothered to film the Doctor swimming to save somebody, they just cut straight to the point where she arrives on land, this also happens when the Doctor first lands, its completely laughable directing at times.
    The CGI is admittedly okay, but it never was great to begin with being a TV show and all.
    The soundtrack is absolutely meh for Doctor Who, I don't even think the Doctor has her own theme like Smith and Tennant had, and if she does I didn't notice which sums up the soundtrack, "huh I didn't notice." And Doctor Who has the backing of the BBC ochestra, who has always done a phenomenal job.

    The Doctor is so badly written and acted, its a joke, there was a certain nuance to previous Doctors but none of that is here, I don't feel that this is an old time travelling adventurer, its just somebody cosplaying the doctor, badly, even to the point where they rip dialogue from previous Doctors and Jodie adds nothing to the role, no personality other than snark and condescension, I hope she gets a decent arc to kill her off, but thats the only nice thing I can say really.

    All the episodes are completely standalone, which would be okay if they were written well, but they aren't and they are so cringy. The companions this time are so weak, other than Bradley who actually has an arc they are all forgettable, the only piece of writing that tried to get me endeared to them was about their racial struggles or politics...wow, as if there was any other way to write people of colour, like I don't know, giving them actual character, struggle and personality, race is not a good thing to base your characters around even bill was more tolerable than these guys because it wasn't about her sexuality 24/7. The cripple doesn't count as a struggle, he is very inconsistent with his disability to the point where I think the writers forgot he had one and he's literally running with no issues, not to mention this makes the Doctor an irresponsible **** for allowing somebody who is physically challenged go on adventures where she is running from danger 24/7...oh and his mother was killed by an alien...so this makes it even less dangeous somehow??? The companions also somehow have more knowledge and capable than the Doctor at times, making the Doctor really dumb and stupid in some parts.
    I'm going to admit I didn't watch all the episodes, I tried, I really did, but it was just so bad, I watched the first 2 episodes fully then from that point tried to dip my toes back in but there was just always something awful with each episode, whether it be the bad acting or writing. I completely stopped watching the final episode when the point where the Doctor actually tries to justify using a bomb, "because she can", thats not the Doctor. You know, when people said to SJWs, "if you want to make something, make your own", we didn't mean infiltrate nerd culture and ostracize white males who have supported the very shows you have destroyed, and I mean LITERALLY supported since white British working class males are who pay taxes for the BBC to make this crap.    … Expand

    All in all, “The Woman Who Fell To Earth” succeeds as a statement of intent for this brand new era of Doctor Who, telling us that it’s going to be easily accessible, gorgeous to look at and listen to, all about the character drama and brought to life with a lead actress who has a lot of energy. In terms of comparing it to past Who, it’s not a flawless season opener, but it does a terrific job of making us excited for the rest of Doctor No. 13’s tenure.

    Goofy and curious, commanding and contemplative, Thirteen is already well on her way to demonstrating the complex emotional makeup that is the Doctor. She also demonstrates a cheerful, can-do spirit. ... With the exception of Tim Shaw’s unappealing self, very little about the episode feels Whovian. Gone is former showrunner Steven Moffat’s sense of play, both in the verbal sparring and convoluted storytelling.

    The premiere episode here, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth,” reminded me, more than anything, of “The X-Files,” when it was really good. It takes you back to the days when Doctor Who was a fun sci-fi procedural. ... [The alien] resembles some gleaming villain out of a Marvel movie, which makes his blokey name, Tim Shaw, even more incongruously funny. This is Doctor Who at its best--nerdy and chilling and quick with a joke. And, most significantly of all, generous of spirit, a quality that simply shimmers off Whittaker.
