Like most HBO series it's very well written and performed with strong characters. I guess I have two problems with the show. First, I find Francis' friends deeply unlikable, particularly Molly Shannon and her suburban, wealthy **** stereotype/husband. I have the same reaction to Tracy Letts I've had in every other role he's been in- I want to watch him get hit by a car. I have the same reaction to Tracy Letts I've had in every other role he's been in- I want to watch him get hit by a car. With slo-mo and many camera angles. The main problem I have though is I just don't believe these two people would ever get together. They seem to be two very different people and I don't get how they'd meet or see anything in each other that would compel them to start dating. So yeah, when the whole premise of the show is on shaky ground it's hard to come up with a reason to keep watching. Expand

I really wanted to like this. And, I really do always enjoy Thomas Haden Church but there is just too much to not like here. First, Sara Jessica Parker-I'm sorry but she needs to remake her visual image - she just looks so "sex in the city" 20 yrs after.
And I could not understand the music choices: really mediocre 80' s and 90's music. Why? At first I though this was set in the 80's or

The major characters, one and all, are extremely well acted, but the winter of their middle-age discontent produces a comedy that leaves the viewer a little cold.

It would seem that Horgan has a fixation on anxiety-inducing titles, but “Catastrophe” has an upbeat pulse that permeates its humor that is sorely lacking in Divorce. ... [The] best scenes in Divorce aren’t carried by Parker, which is a shame and an error, considering her role as the center of this off-kilter miniature galaxy. Instead, Church generates most of the comedy in the show’s opening episodes, which is terrific.

Divorce makes you feel almost nothing. It’s a shallow bore, and not even the flailing efforts of its stars make it interesting.
