It's exhausting and dull watching the first episode past the first few minutes when the cranky schtick is revealed. No way in hell I could tune in for subsequent episodes of this tired, unoriginal crap. Seen these sort of characters so many times before. What was Amy Poehler thinking?

Only makes me realize how brilliant Woody Allen and Louie are. They make complaining insightful and funny. This show just thinks it's bitter rants are funny, and they aren't. Plus the acting seems phony and the timing off. YUK.

The characters are just dull. I get it - they're banal, self-absorbed people - but if they were actually as funny as the world of the show keeps insisting they are, maybe they'd be worth watching. I'm just not invested in two unfunny New Yorkers. I loved Billy on Parks and Rec, but haven't laughed once at him on this show. Difficult is a good word in the title, because this show is a chore to watch. They main characters are, indeed, difficult, in addition to being totally unlikeable. I think they're trying to say something about the world and about a certain kind of narcissist, which is fine, but I don't want to watch it on TV.

Aims right for the middle: Set in New York, tons of pandering to gays, very condescending and unlikable. Very uninteresting, not many (any) laughs and in this golden age of great television, I can't see anyone wasting their time on this.

I agree with the majority of viewers. The show should be renamed "Obnoxious People that are difficult to watch". The show had few laughs and was tedious to watch. I spent 6 minutes of my life that I'll never get back, couldn't stand it any longer.

Why would anyone purposely want to spend (TV) time with two of the most unlikeable and horrible people I've been exposed to since high school? These mean-spirited jerks are not funny. Sad, small, soulless people who behave terribly. Frankly, I can't believe that someone like Amy Poehler is associated with this "show".

I never review things and post it on the internet and I literally just made this account to review this show. It is the absolute WORST thing I have ever seen - anywhere - ever. I would rather go outside during a rain storm and watch a dog drop a loaf on the front lawn. How complete trash like this ever gets made is beyond me. Even is someone signed off on the premise, 10 minutes into shooting on the first day anyone with half a brain should be able to see this was garbage. If you are considering watching this - please - for the love of all things holy - do something better with your life - like slit your wrists. Because, trust me, after you watch this, you will want to do that anyway. Expand

Difficult People is a show that has an interesting mix of characters and themes that had me excited for the possibility of a unique kind of comedy. It's characters are absolutely awful, both main and supporting alike, with some of that attributing to the fact that they were supposed to be "difficult people", instead of them coming off as unlikable and endearing, they are just terrible and annoying. Nothing is funny in the show, and with how extreme the jokes can be sometimes they need to at least be funny, or else they really come off as being bitter and hateful. Avoid this show at all costs, it's trash in the middle of a pile of garbage and has no redeeming qualities what-so-ever. Expand

I’m someone who will watch almost anything and if it is a funny show, count me in. But this show was really hard to get thru. It’s not funny or entertaining. How this show got 3 seasons is beyond me. The characters are obnoxious and bland. They have nothing going for them, no talent or personality. Please Hulu, find me something better to watch.

The plotting is light, with the first three episodes largely structured around Julie and Billy's misadventures, which always puts extra pressure on the cast and dialogue to perform. But fortunately, this pays off.

Though undeniably hilarious at times, it is a difficult show to watch (see title).... [Julie and Billy's] friendship is powerful but limiting and destructive, their brilliance hampered by their refusal to acknowledge that the world is not their living room. Which, if Klausner doesn't lose her nerve, makes Difficult People an illuminating sendup of far too many things on television.

It does not feel focus-grouped; sometimes it doesn’t feel second-guessed. Julie and Billy and many of the other characters talk to each other the way best friends talk to each other when they think nobody is listening. Every other scene contains a line that could keep the outrage/apology cycle humming for at least a half-day.
