The critics are tripping hardcore on this. This is easily one of the most criminally UNDERrated shows on Netflix and this is strange for me to say since the service is mostly filled with poop that you're meant to ignore. This show is just amazing, its plot twist. I'm excited about the final season. Idk what its creator had in his kind, but this show is just perfect. Idk why it has only 67 out of 100 it deserves an 100.

A technical masterclass. Superbly acted and written, but amazingly planned and plotted to the smallest detail from season 1 episode to the season 3 finale. A top 5 all time show, and possibly the greatest science fiction ever seen on TV.

Great series that you should watch, especially if you are a fan of intricate and complex plots(and time travel) but here are some specifics for you. For me, Dark caused three distinct reactions: (1) "Oh! Awesome!". This is a show about majorGreat series that you should watch, especially if you are a fan of intricate and complex plots(and time travel) but here are some specifics for you. For me, Dark caused three distinct reactions: (1) "Oh! Awesome!". This is a show about major plot twists and each episode spins you around. It is based on time travel and it is extremely well done, and the actors are SUPERBLY chosen. Each episode brings more story, more connections. The writers of Dark are pretty good. (2) "Damn, I am starting to feel at home". The environment and directing are on point. The visuals, the angles all play in favor of the story delivering. With time, everything is familiar to you and begin to be part of this world. (3) "Damn, these people have no facial expression" and "I might sleep now". The pacing is weird. In the first two episodes, I literally slept 4 times before finishing them. But this only happens in the first episodes, after that is awesome. However, one thing that will not change is: Their expression is almost the same in the entire series. Although this is not a big deal, it is a major contrast to Hollywood-based series and movies. Sometimes it is kind of annoying that you see people in fantastic situations or in unbearable stress just looking like this => o.o or like this => ._. Overall, you will get used to it. I was reluctant to watch Dark but I am glad I did because it is pretty good.… Expand

The plot moves at lightspeed and the story lines are a labyrinth that deserve multiple viewings. It's fantastical, far beyond the simple "whodunnit" I expected when I caught the 'missing child' synopsis.

Myth, magic, religion, time travel and the laws of physics dance about one another. The backdrop of gorgeous German countryside, the dramatic attention to lighting (not always subtle but hey, it's fun!) and the tinkling musical score heighten the popcorn-munching suspense. While Dark may not be the most cerebral, it does require attention and thought.

I've been consistently impressed by the quality of the acting, especially by the younger performers. As has been mentioned, some of the casting between generations is uncanny. Many reviews I have read, both professional and amateur, compare the show to Stranger Things or even The OA. Honestly, I find the comparisons derivative to all three shows. Every cinematic exploration of space travel isn't Star Trek, every zombie drama isn't The Walking Dead. Dark is worth watching for its own merits. I gave it a perfect score based on my own enjoyment of the show, not necessarily upon its cinematic merits. Still, if you're up more some atmospheric, seat grabbing drama, set some time aside for this show.… Expand

This is a great series with an overwhelmingly smart plot! Without any abuse of cgi it is able to catch the viewer's attention and develop a wonderful sci-fi story.

Dark is simply the best show on Netflix. It's filled with brilliant writing, a great storytelling and a lot of charismatic characters. But you have to pay attention all the time and take it seriously.

I didn't know what to expect from DARK. But once I got a couple of episodes into the first season. I was hooked. This series has not left my mind in weeks. I can't stop thinking about it.

The creators of this show obviously planned out each season way before this show was even pitched. The details are everywhere, even in the tiniest of places you'd never expect when watching for the first time, but after finishing the series and rewatching earlier episodes, I realised just how incredibly written and produced this show is.

The acting is superb. The casting is outstanding. The score is brilliant and enticing. The cinematography is visually pleasing and at times, breathtaking. The characters are entertaining and realistic, even when the show pushes the boundaries on realism. Sure, the third season could've fleshed some characters' journeys a little more, but in end when looking at this show as a whole, you know you've just witnessed something incredible.

Ignore the comments comparing DARK to Stranger Things, ST is a colourful, oversaturated kids show compared to this.

DARK is an incredibly unique piece of art, it has absolutely spoiled all other shows for me. No other show or movie will compare. It's a love letter to the Sci-Fi and Mystery genre. A true gem that shines out of the current landscape of modern television.

(As a Brit, I also highly recommend watching it with English subtitles and with the original German dub, believe me the English dub is awful and the German actors are incredible with their line deliveries).… Expand

The show has got some interesting story lines, but it's trying too hard and it's moving much too slowly. A lot of time is wasted with sex scenes, cringe and pseudo intellectual babble.

This series is one of the best I've ever seen.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 3 Review: Questions that this deceptively stupid show arose in my mind:

- How stupid do audiences have to be to believe that a show that quotes Nietzsche's If you look at the abyss long enough, it looks back thing, is going to be smart? That is one of the most cliché quotes in cinema.

- Why can’t young Jonas and Martha not spend 5 minutes on screen without crying? Every. Single. Episode. Why?

- Would real people in these circumstances get tossed around through time and space with lines like “what we know is a drop, the ocean is what we don’t know”… Or would someone with genitals eventually punch a mf’er in the mouth and say “I’m not going anywhere until you explain in excruciating detail what’s going on here”. You can’t say they had no time to explain, because by season 3 everyone’s traveling to whenever the f*ck they want, and still doing the Yoda sh*t.

- How many idiots would believe that in order to avoid the apocalypse you had to become a serial murderer of children?

- Nietzsche’s eternal return is one of Germany’s most famous philosophical concepts. After garnering international acclaim, why didn’t the writers delve deeper into German philosophy? Are they just stupid and know philosophy on a superficial level? I personally believe so.

- Why did they explain Schrodinger’s cat theory as stupidly as Joss Whedon would explain a Justice League joke?

- Why didn’t anyone realize that “Adam” and “Eva” were just killing people fruitlessly, and why didn’t anyone just say “I’m just going to kill these two **** and see what happens. They’re serial killers, so it’s probably not going to do any harm.”

- Why does this show insist on wasting my time with characters speaking in platitudes, instead of specifics. Is it to pad the runtime? Or is it because they don’t understand the real depths of the philosophical concepts behind Nietzsche’s work? I think it’s both.

- Why does everyone take 5-10 seconds to reply to one another? If you have a skip 5 seconds button on your player, you can safely press it after every line of dialogue, unless someone is angry.

And if you’re wondering why I watched this entire show, it’s because it’s so boring it helps my insomnia.

AND if you think I’m not smart enough for this show, I have a Master’s in literature, had to study all of Shakespeare and James Joyce’s Ulysses in one semester, I speak three languages and read philosophy in all three of them, and I’m currently signed on the online courses for Computer Science and Web Development that Harvard has. Good luck trying to convince me I’m dumb.

Positives: The actors are amazing, but the director just tells most of them to hold one emotion for three seasons, so...… Expand

Dark is a heavily plot driven show that doesn't get rolling until near the end of the 1st season. Individual characters can be a bit shallow, but getting to know them is required to make sense of the story. There are so many characters that it takes most of the first season just to get the basics about the important characters down. The show dangles a pretty meh attempt at a murder thriller, and fills in the boring gaps with haunting cinematography and music, just so it's not an unwatchable snooze fest during the slow start. Unfortunately, during that first season it came close many times to just completely boring me out of my mind, but I'm glad I stuck through with it.

By the end of the first season, the rules of the world become kind of clear and the story goes totally bonkers in the best way possible. Literal dimensions are added on top of the bleh murder mystery and it becomes a serious trip. The characters never get super interesting though, and it's hard to care too much about them; but that's clearly not the point of the show. Pure curiosity about how this insane web shapes up is what drives interest.… Expand

It is about life, this passage, this interval between being born and dying, the repetitions that occur in it and how we live beyond our death. We are not only matter, particle, but also waves, waves of which are repeated, propagate. Always fighting against the inevitable, destiny counts, but is it not that same resistance that caused it? From that thread of Ariadne that weaves our life

Space-time does not divide us, but unites us. We are aggregations of experiences, there is no pain, guilt, resentment, anger or hatred when there is an understanding that everything is connected. I would love to see more German shows, but this one has disappointed me big times.

You'll hear from all other reviews that the story is complex and characters are good, but the story, though complex, is only seemingly so, plot twists andI would love to see more German shows, but this one has disappointed me big times.

You'll hear from all other reviews that the story is complex and characters are good, but the story, though complex, is only seemingly so, plot twists and different timelines are stacked on one another haphazardly to the point where none of it makes sense, and what one of the reviewers here called 'pseudo intellectual babble' doesn't help to find it - and there's a lot of it, really, since characters are 75% of the time either staring at each other vacantly or converse in-depth about time loops, black holes and all other stuff that's pseudo scientific.

The characters? The characters are weak. Apart from the first 4-5 episodes you'll never get to learn them any closer to get attached or to empathize with them; from the very start and until the very end they are only characters scripted to act as they're supposed to and are never real people with real emotions or real lives. The same applies to the whole town of Winden and surroundings; it's never felt alive and populated, it takes various shapes for the sake of the plot and, although it's hinted throughout the show that the town is linked directly to what's going on, it actually never does play any role in the events, it's never present, it's dummy and it's faux.
At last, what I will never forgive the creators, is how they totally abandon their own plot lines. I'm not going to spatter spoilers, but one of the main questions, the predominant mystery, the thing that is the starting point to the whole set of events is NEVER explained or showed, they just omitted it as if lives of the disappearing kids don't matter a thing. I think it is unforgivable to leave some of the knots tied, especially when seasons two and three are all about 'untying knots'.

Summing it all up, I can conclude that, despite the creative effort, Dark proved to be unconvincing, delusively deep, disconcerting, embarrassing and frustrating. I wish they had decided on whether they want it to be something serious, like 'Twin Peaks', or whether they just want to throw some time-travel-black-hole-Chernobyl-Einstein-loop sh*t in people's faces, because it feels like it was intended to be the former in the first couple episodes, but eventually it grew into the latter.… Expand

Dark is a German language science fiction thriller.

The story is complex and takes complete attention of the viewer in order to follow the plot.
