    Ended up being extremely disappointing. The 80 here makes sense considering the critics only saw the first few episodes, which hinted at the brilliance of Season 1. Too bad the writers went nowhere with some intriguing storylines. What is most maddening is how the show was wrapped up in a sloppy manner. The last episode just had everyone arrested in the last few minutes. There was Ended up being extremely disappointing. The 80 here makes sense considering the critics only saw the first few episodes, which hinted at the brilliance of Season 1. Too bad the writers went nowhere with some intriguing storylines. What is most maddening is how the show was wrapped up in a sloppy manner. The last episode just had everyone arrested in the last few minutes.     While there are some first class actors in Damages, the writing leaves something to be desired. There's just something terribly unreal about how the dialogue is constructed with its momentous dramatic pauses. Compare this to the effortless dialogue in Friday Night Lights, for instance. There is just no comparison between television greatness and the heavy breathing which Damages promotes.

    Nothing is as it seems--too much of the time. Intrigue is good; circular storytelling to the point of viewer exhaustion is bad.

    One of the addictive things about Damages is its ability to work what initially seems to be a peripheral character like Olyphant's into the series' core plot in a startling way. All credit is due to the show's creators--brothers Glenn and Todd A. Kessler and Daniel Zelman--who wrote the first two episodes with smoothly intricate plotting and bursts of melodrama that rarely spill over the top.
