Apr 27, 2014It's not hard to love this show if you can handle the fact that it's fantasy. Assassin's Creed gets away with it pretty easily. It's a little bit of history with fun, magic, boobs, and lots of action woven in. It's Sherlock meets Game of Thrones.
Suspend your disbelief, and enjoy the action! -
Apr 24, 2014OK - there's SO MUCH of this show I really REALLY shouldn't like in terms of HUGE historical errors, inconsistencies, anachronisms, etc.
But I can't help it. This show is ENJOYABLE. -
Nov 10, 2014Season 2 is slow to start, but once it does, it maintains the high quality set by the first season with a creative character arc for Riario, a refreshing change of setting and well developed characters.

Sep 30, 2016Season 2 may not be historically accurate and does take a while to get going, but when it does, delivers strong character arcs, especially for Riario, and entertaining set pieces brought by a change in location.

There's a lot happening all at once and not all of it even makes that much sense. It may never help you pass a history test or win accolades for Starz, but Da Vinci's Demons is still a whole heck of a lot of fun.
-
Street fighting and strategic hiding alike seem to take place in deep shadows, making some of the action difficult to follow. More like impossible, really, for anyone not fully familiar with season one.
-
It's still a bit chintzy, though--it simply can't support the scale it craves. Yet Da Vinci just might have purged enough creative demons to be, at the very least, a guilty geek pleasure. [21 Mar 2014, p.59]
