Despite the ending, Curse Of The Chippendales is a well-structured documentary series that is also a fascinating time capsule of the early ’80s disco era. Banerjee and his many crimes are almost glossed over, but it’s worth watching to better understand the lives of the Chippendale dancers, who don’t usually get as much focus and glory now as they once did.
-
Things then spiralled out into a world of podcasts and amateur sleuthing and mildly problematic voyeurism disguised as obsessive reportage. But when the story is this good, this bizarre, this wild, this paranoid, flamboyant and nostalgia-fuelled, why change the tune?
-
The docuseries is entertaining despite its structural machinations, because it takes the phenomenon of Chippendales as seriously as it should be taken.
-
Even if it becomes a bit ordinary by its finale, as well as falls short of explaining the status of the brand today, Curse of the Chippendales never overstays its welcome. And, of course, it’s got plenty of G-strings, if that’s what you’re looking for.
