Where Sagan’s narrative often approached poetry, Dr. Tyson’s can sound like an overwrought, overamplified planetarium show.... The animation used to present his story resembles low-budget anime and isn’t terribly absorbing. Bruno deserves better. Nit-picking aside, if the new Cosmos doesn’t deliver quite the punch of the original, it’s because this isn’t 1980.

I expect that the science will get more detailed once it focuses on more succinct subjects but so far it was an absolute joy for the anticipation!! Full Review »

The narrator was excellent and did a good job of putting large concepts into consumable pieces. The show didn't delve particularly deep, at least in the first episode, but I don't think it is trying to be something like Into the Universe or Through the Wormhole -- it is trying to appeal to a mass audience and people who might not otherwise receive exposure to such things. At this it was a rousing success I think. What this show stands for is more important than the show itself. Full Review »

I hope Neil will make more people aware of the Wonder that is the cosmos. I think even people who aren't very enthusiastic about science will enjoy this, he makes boring things sound incredibly interesting. It's only the first episode and I already feel like I'm hooked.
