The layers of this narrative onion make the characters more complex than perhaps was intended. Crafted to embody a political point, which is at the same time being skewered, they are doubly (at least) fictional. Played by humans, they are inevitably humanized, and at some point, the ironies break down and you care what happens to them, as people. Read full review

It draws in you in with the novelty of its approach and keeps you hooked even though what’s happening onscreen is, dramatically and aesthetically speaking, not much deeper or better-made than a Cannon film starring a third-stringer like Michael Dudikoff. In one of the episode introductions, Tatum says he spent 107 hours in the studio dubbing his role, so much time that he ended up hurting his voice. There’s no way to be sure if he’s telling the truth. But if he is, it was time well and weirdly spent. Read full review

Comrade Detective is uniquely original and creative satire with a (surprisingly) compelling story. Its uniqueness makes you press play, its cast draws you in, and the subtlest of humor leaves a lasting impression on you.

What more can you say but BRILLIANT, the way it was filmed was genius.
Well written to be comedic yet serious, the story left you gripped and wanting more.
The acting and voice acting just flow together and you totally forget its actually dubbed. Just watch it, you won't regret it.

Brilliant! Finally something different-crosses multiple genres. I believe the negative reviews come from those who just don't get it. It is beautifully shot, well cast, and well written. LOVED IT! You will too.

Excellent casting..Superior script which manages to pull off satire which is not easy to do. The most important aspect is the exceptional writing, which veers us into a new direction using a different angle not readily seen before. From show concept, production, to delivery of final filmed scenes, it is a new fun style that makes it hard to stop watching, even given its communist propaganda approach. Perhaps the most redeeming quality being that it is chock full of compelling tidbits of knowledge that I found educational, to say the least. Sourcing real Romanian actors for all but the main roles gave it a neorealistic angle which I was very able to appreciate. Bravo Amazon, well chosen.… Expand

Utterly original and so much fun! Don't be fooled by the negative reviews, the subtlety of the satire and even the premise just seems to go over some peoples' heads. This show has it all - humor, great direction, an amazing score, an incredible Romanian cast of actors and a really funUtterly original and so much fun! We need more creative shows on TV like Comrade Detective. Rather than being "Ha-Ha" funny this show is a smart satire. Loved it. Hope they get a seasons 2 to expand the concept.

Comrade Detective is a poorly made knockoff of a great Tarantino film - lacks all humor, art, interestingness, and feels horrifically forced. Nice try, Amazon!
