All in all, Colin from Accounts is the perfect blend of comedy and drama.
-
The chemistry between Dyer and Brammall is the key to Colin From Accounts; they show how these two comically flawed people can foster a relationship, even if the only thing they have in common is a disabled dog neither of them owns.
-
It’s a show that very swiftly establishes a wide emotional range, as well as a capable and deep ensemble around its two leads.
-
It almost felt as though the creators had lured audiences inside the door with unpresuming situational comedy, then shaped it into meaningful drama when nobody was looking. The appealing chemistry between Dyer and Brammall is a big part of this.
-
Charming, compelling, and comedically convincing to boot, the first episode of Colin from Accounts not only sidestepped tired romcom conventions but set its own tempo altogether.
-
The show is so economical in setting up its characters – and not just for a fall – that halfway through this first run you realize Brammall and Dyer have achieved what it took Ricky Gervais and Quinta Brunson two seasons to master: get us caring for these stumblebums, and acknowledge that even bemused affection must count for something.
-
At times the writing needs to be sharper, and not quite so lavatorial, but this is winningly silly, lo-fi, character-led comedy with absurdist panache.
