This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first Season was incredible. Banging synthwave soundtrack, plenty of montages and central characters you liked and could really get behind. The tournament they were working up to and Miguel's fight with Tyler and his goons provided plenty of mileage, but after they've been defeated the second season completely loses it's way. All the characters you loved start to act like idiots and make decisions contrary to why you loved them. For example Robby starts training his kids to be violent and allows his old sensei back, which is so unbelievable. Miguel overnight becomes an aggressive, nasty piece of work. So does Hawk. Ok, we can get behind Hawk becoming a bit of an anti-hero, but to make him one sided and now a complete bully, ruined his character and made you feel frustrated you ever liked him. Same as Miguel. I could deal with the cobra kai members struggling with issues of aggression, but why turn them into baddies? Mr Larusso starts off kind of cool. He's flawed but he's still a good man and you get a feeling that Miyagi's teachings have really shaped him. But during the second season he starts behaving in a really petty way and is almost encouraging his kids to get involved in skirmishes. He acts distraught when his daughter gets drunk and stays the night at Robbies, but he has no problems getting her involved in his dojo feud and leaving her vulnerable to getting badly scarred and almost killed. Sam also becomes very irritating, just messing with boys heads and not being able to make her mind up. She indirectly causes Miguel's coma if you think about it. It all starts to feel like a high school teen drama instead of a bada!* martial arts show. The dialogue also becomes very hammy and it feels like you're watching The Room. They needed a compelling enemy for the second Season. Without one the show just meanders around not knowing what to do with itself. Expand

The performances from the mainline cast are great. Production is above average.
Writing is not good.
Woke trends and tropes taking priority over the story especially in S2 are really forced and ruin this.
6/10 at best for KK fans.

That they actually tried to so something novel and not just do a typical modern remake where you imitate old ideas and push modern political issues into a genuine fictional world. But I was wrong. The issue isn't politics though but their lack of fantasy. They didn't dare to deviate from typical cliches. Overall, everything is too predicable on a plot level and character authenticity is sacrificed for it. Characters make stupid choices they wouldn't naturally do just to drive the plot. Because they couldn't find any better plot tools. It's disappointing. This could have been much more. Expand

I don’t need my entertainment to be woke. Johnny Laurence is hilarious and always keeps me laughing. I would recommend watching seasons 1,2,3 and I would rate them 10/10. The series is easy and fun to watch just cut out the wokeness and you will have a show that the whole family can watch instead of trying to be cool creative and trying to make a statement. Expand
