    Can't they see what a perfect and stunning couple they make (OWN viewers certainly can.) But what fun would it be if their true love didn't hit the occasional speed bump? [2 - 15 Mar 2020, p.9]

    What "Cherish" proposes instead is that viewers invest in the relationship itself, and its characters. All television series ask that audiences to some degree, but with "Cherish" success is almost entirely dependent on how engaged a viewer is with whether Gently and Evan will make it. And for some people, that may not be enough of a mystery to remain interested.

    It invites respect by paying it first. But Cherish the Day's first few episodes also suggest a show so adoring of its characters that it robs the storylines of their necessary tension. ... The result is a pair of charm bombs detonating on both sides of a cardboard cutout.

    “Cherish the Day,” a new OWN series from multi-hyphenate Ava DuVernay, ostensibly has all the pieces to make a satisfying romance, and an intriguing structural premise, but nonetheless has trouble gelling altogether.
