Brutal imagery and a creative story make SyFy's fourth season entitled "The Dream Door" one of the best shows on television. The show definitely went in a direction I didnt anticipate. Kudos on a very creative story. The imagery is brutal and genuinely frightening at times. Who wants to be drowned by a contortionist clown? Not I!!! Not I!!! Congrats to an excellent cast, Maria Sten as JIll and Brandon Scott as Tom were spot on as a couple we could care about and root for. Steven Robertson was menacing as the slimy Ian. Nick Antosca and director EL Katz brought this terrifying vision to life in a myriad of novel and creative ways. Special congrats to Troy James who played Pretzel Jack. He did all those crazy movements and facial expression without ANY CGI. He is amazing. Check him out on season 1 of "America's Got Talent". Mind blown! Expand

Ridiculous in all the right ways. While I think the characters were flat for the most part, the concept around this season is completely mad - think Pokemon with terrifying childhood imaginary friends - and everything comes to an absolutely bonkers climax. Tons of fun - by far the least self-serious season of Channel Zero so far.

Channel Zero reliably keeps the narrative tight with a six-episode run and with The Dream Door, Antosca wisely maintains focused on Jillian and Tom’s relationship and the baggage they bring with them. There are some missteps when the focus veers toward unnecessary characters or developments, but the heart of the story pays off very well in the end.

The Dream Door is straightforward enough for a change, but that’s not the show’s strong suit; getting strange, scary, and logically unjustifiable are where it soars--just like a nightmare.

It’s not flawless. Some of the performances, even in lead roles, are just a bit off (definitely not in supporting, in which you’ll find the legendary Barbara Crampton and always-solid Steven Weber), and I couldn’t shake the feeling that there’s a four-episode version of this story that’s stronger than the six. ... Like the stories on which it’s based, it seeks to unsettle you more than shock or disturb. And “The Dream Door” definitely does exactly that.
